MAs much as everyone keeps on talking about Georgia, the brutal fact is this: Georgia hasn’t won a SEC title since 2005. Since Georgia’s last SEC title, Florida has won two of them. Georgia hasn’t been to Atlanta since 2012, while Florida have been to the last two. Florida’s also won the last three Cocktail Parties against Georgia. So who’s going to win the SEC East? We were thinking about doing an article in the shower about the best records in the SEC over the last five years, but they’ve already been nicely covered by everyone from Gridiron Now to Saturday Down South. You’ll be astonished to hear that Alabama’s got the best home record in the last five years, and the crappiest home record is Kentucky’s. SEC Preview – Week 7: Will Tennessee beat Alabama?

GSo now they’ve beaten Florida, Tennessee fans must be feeling the magic for the visit of their second-most hated rival, Alabama. If we’re honest, Alabama has OWNED Tennessee (results-wise, anyway), beating them in every game since 2007. The only game that reasonably close was last year, when Josh Dobbs’ heroics nearly beat the Crimson Tide. Knoxville Police called Jones about rape investigations

A report from The Tennessean seems to show that police informed Tennessee coach Butch Jones that two of his players – AJ Johnson and Michael Williams – were being investigated for the rape of a female student. Both Johnson and Williams were later charged. The paper said: “The players first heard the news from their Tennessee football coaches — in Johnson’s case, four hours before police showed up at the scene of the alleged crime to question him“, quoting sources. According to the report, Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch and another detective called Jones out of professional courtesy. After Week 2: Auburn and Arkansas fall in SEC rankings

If you are an Auburn and Arkansas fan, you had an intensely forgettable Saturday. Of course, Auburn survived mighty Jacksonville State — in overtime — with the rest of the SEC cheering on the Tigers to fall, while Arkansas comedically fell at ‘home’ to Toledo (2014 record: 9-4, 7-1 MAC). Elsewhere, Missouri and Florida struggled with Arkansas State and East Carolina respectively, Tennessee gave up a 17-0 lead to Oklahoma in the best atmosphere of the day in Neyland, and Les Miles was Les Miles (and LSU won despite it). Saturday SEC round-up: Texas A&M impresses, Auburn does not

Saturday’s SEC games saw victories for all SEC schools playing – including resounding ones for Texas A&M, Auburn and Alabama in the three biggest games out there. So here are our big thoughts about the SEC’s Saturday. 1. Texas A&M’s performance impresses Great performance by the Aggies, who crushed Arizona State 38-17 and looked comfortable. A lot of credit has to go that the game wasn’t played in an actual ‘neutral’ venue (Houston’s in Texas, people), so ASU struggled with crowd noise…but they also struggled with Myles Garrett, who was sensational. On the other side of the ball, Christian Kirk was excellent (1 TD, 1 TD from a punt return) as the Aggies put up 247 yards. Great going, folks.

Butch Jones: No backflips over Tennessee’s recruiting success

There were no backflips after Tennessee’s fantastic 2015 recruiting year, head coach Butch Jones said, adding that 2014 was an overachievement from a team that didn’t bring back anyone on the offensive and defensive lines. “Contrary to reports, there were no back flips, and there were no somersaults, but I think in the world of college football, you’re judged by wins and losses, but also you’re judged by does your team overachieve or under achieve. Vols beat eight SEC schools to 3-star DE

Three-star defensive end Chidi Okonya has committed to Tennessee. The Riverdale High School player is ranked the 19th-highest defensive end in the nation by 24-7 Sports, and the 31st overall player in Georgia. The 6-5, 230lb player from Riverdale, Georgia was offered by a large number of schools, including Georgia, Florida, LSU, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt in the SEC. Big-name out-of-conference schools included Notre Dame, Stanford, Penn State, Oregon and Clemson. He was visited by coaching staffs from Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon, Wisconsin, Louisville and Duke.

2014 SEC Preview: Can Tennessee overcome weakness on the lines?

Let’s be honest: It hasn’t been the greatest few years at Tennessee. The fans on ‘Rocky Top’ haven’t had a winning record since 2009, and one double-digit win season in seven years. In other words, UT fans have spent a lot of time finding game tailgates as a chance to catch up and hate life together. Neyland’s a pretty easy ticket now. Butch Jones coming in last year, though, has threatened to turn things around. Tennessee was perhaps the best 5-7 team in college football, and this year, recruiting’s going well and smiles might just be returning again. LAST SEASON Tennessee had a winning record early on in the season because they beat very substandard competition. And beat ’em well.

Mark Richt comes out combative over Georgia drug rules

Mark Richt is used to criticism as head coach of the University of Georgia. Every year people place him on the hot-seat for either not beating South Carolina, or not beating Auburn, or losing a game they should win, or not beating a team by enough, and 2015 won’t be any different – although after beating Clemson and LSU, maybe the seat’s a LITTLE cooler. Richt’s also had his fair share of criticism about Georgia’s drug policy, which has seen the school suspend or boot a number of players over his time between the hedges.
