  Nick Saban is stuck between a rock and a hard place in the Jonathan Taylor situation, and both sides don’t look attractive to the Alabama head coach. It emerged on Monday that Taylor’s girlfriend had recanted her story about being domestically abused, and she was arrested. Prosecutors are still convinced that something went on, and questions about that night vary. No Third Chances: Alabama dismisses Jonathan Taylor

Jonathan Taylor, the former Georgia DT booted from Athens after domestic violence charges who then enrolled at Alabama, has been booted by the Crimson Tide after being arrested for domestic violence charges. According to ESPN: “Police officers responded to a call near Alabama’s campus to speak with a woman who told police she was assaulted by her boyfriend at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday. After speaking to the woman about an altercation that took place at her residence, officers located the suspect at the residence and spoke to him about the incident. SEC names new Commissioner

The SEC has named former COO Greg Sankey as the league’s new Commissioner after Mike Slive had to resign due to treatments for cancer. Sankey, who has been at the SEC for 12 years and was the league’s Executive Associate Commissioner, was announced by head of SEC presidents and chancellors Nick Zeppos. He will take over Slive’s job when he formally retires on end-July this year. “The institutions of the Southeastern Conference searched for a commissioner who would carry forward the momentum of success enjoyed by the SEC over the last decade while also possessing a vision for change in the modern era of college athletics,” said Zeppos.  “Greg Sankey’s experience with our institutions, his respect on the national landscape,

Dak Prescott attacked on Spring Break

Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott has been attacked while on Spring Break in Panama City. This video recently surfaced on Facebook. You can see Prescott- in the rainbow shorts- being surrounded by 3 or 4 guys and  – unsurprisingly – not looking certain on his feet moments after the attack. Pictures have emerged of his bloody face and body after the attack, although he is not thought to be badly injured. Prescott was on Spring Break with some Mississippi State players when the incident happened. I don’t understand: Why did the SEC hit LSU with recruiting violations?

I’ve been looking at this for a while now, and I still can’t understand why LSU was hit with recruiting violations fines by the SEC. According to the SEC, LSU prospect Matt Womack signed a financial aid agreement with the Tigers, only to back out of the deal, de-commit, and go to Alabama instead. Because there had been an arrangement where recruits who signed a financial aid agreement with a school could be contacted by that school on an unlimited fashion (yeah, we’re confused right here!), LSU obviously contacted Womack heavily….and now he’s gone to Tuscaloosa, the SEC found that that contact had been illegal. Miami rats out Florida for recruiting violation, Gators win

The NCAA said today that Florida had been investigated for a recruiting violation involving former wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, but would not face sanctions. Although the NCAA did not mention Phillips, it did note that a ‘former Florida assistant coach’ visited a Florida prospect off-campus before the NCAA rules allowed for contact, adding that the Gators had suspended the assistant coach in question (Phillips resigned in June, incidentally), and that the “corrective actions and penalties self-imposed by the school were appropriate and assigned no additional penalties or measures.” The full statement from the NCAA is here. After the news of the tragic but long-awaited death of NFL Films’ creator Ed Sabol, we got thinking: We need SEC Films for the Southeastern Conference, ESPN. As first revealed by Saturday Down South, here is the diary for SEC Spring Games: March 21: Vanderbilt April 11: Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina April 18: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri April 25: Arkansas, Tennessee Kentucky was forced to cancel its Spring Game due to renovations at Commonwealth Stadium, while Texas A&M will not hold a Spring Game due to renovations at Kyle Field (same as 2014).

Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama the SEC’s biggest winners of National Signing Day

There were no surprises who the biggest winner was of National Signing Day – Alabama. But the two schools who made bigger noises than Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide was Auburn and Tennessee. Auburn managed to get the nation’s top-ranked DE Byron Cowart from under Florida’s noses,  as well as four-star LB/RB Jeff Holland, who was also chased by the Gators. And while we’re at it, four-star Javarius Davis decided to sign for Auburn rather than go to Gainseville too… – Tennessee picked up 5-star OT Drew Richmond, from Memphis TN. in the face of a strong battle from Ole Miss. The Vols also got 5-star DT Kahlil McKenzie. McKenzie’s signing was probably a lot more predictable bearing in mind Reggie
