Richt’s reaction to Georgia arrests

Georgia coach Mark Richt has said that there will be “consequences” for the four players who were arrested for double-dipping on their stipend checks on Monday night. “Obviously we had some guys that did foolish things, and there will be consequences”, he said in a press conference after Georgia’s Spring Practice on Tuesday, even though safety Tray Matthews, defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor and James DeLoach and wide receiver Uriah LeMay all practiced on Tuesday. The four were charged with ‘theft by deception’ for cashing in stipend checks from the Georgia Athletic Department, totalling about $786 (or $71 each). “You don’t want to act like it didn’t happen. We are going to address everything head on”, he said in a press

Defensive end Corey Crawford, guard David Beasley, cornerback Garry Peters and offensive tackle Shaq Anthony were all told that they weren’t be going to Sanford Stadium to face the Bulldogs….who dismissed starting safety Josh Harvey-Clemons earlier this off-season. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said: “A huge part of our program is teaching accountability, responsibility and that there are consequences for your actions. These are four good young men, but they broke a team rule and as a result, they will each miss a game. I am hopeful that they will learn and grow from this and have a great 2014 season on and off the field.” BOTTOM LINE: Crawford’s going to

Bauer, Giant WRs highlight Missouri’s National Signing Day class

There’s a band out there called ‘They Might Be Giants’. Have a listen. You’re never going to keep them down. We know that they’ve been around longer than Missouri’s wide receiving class….but the guys that Gary Pinkel’s recruited might be giants, too. Only one of the SIX wide receivers who decided to come to Columbia is play for Pinkel is under 6ft…and he’s 5 ft 10. Four-star receiver DeSean Blair – the pick of the bunch (who actually committed to Louisville before deciding he wanted to play in the SEC– is 6 ft 4, while Dorial Green-Beckham’s brother, Darnell, is 6 ft 5 (Important question: What does Mrs Green-Beckham feed her kids, and could we have some?). Missouri fans are

Despite Evans, a superb National Signing Day for Auburn

Regardless of the screw-up with local boy Rashaan Evans, Auburn had a very, very good National Signing Day. To explain the Evans situation: five-star OLB Evans went to a local Auburn high school and it was anticipated that he would become an Auburn Tiger. So much so that Auburn put his name on their website, celebrating their victory. Well, it was a little too early, rather like Alabama fans celebrating a 2013 Iron Bowl victory. At his commitment ceremony, he opted to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Anyway, it’s all in the past, because Gus Malzahn had a great haul – at prep and JUCO level. Auburn signed the best JUCO player in the land in WR D’haquille Williams

LSU lands No.1 WR recruit

What a morning for LSU head coach Les Miles on National Signing Day. The bombastic coach probably expected No.1 wide receiver in the nation Malachi Dupre to sign for them….and he did. He said in a press conference at his high school at John Curtis Christian: “I feel that it was right to stay home and bring a national championship back to the state…It was best to stay here … It’s time to get ready for Wisconsin and the first game.“. Dupre is part of a recruiting surge by Les Miles and his team, who got five commitments and letters of intentions that they weren’t particularly expecting on National Signing Day. Miles is also expecting No.1 running back in the

Missouri WR Dorial Green-Beckham arrested

Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham has given head coach Gary Pinkel another thing to think about: He was arrested on Friday night. DGB was pulled over for expired plates on a Jeep which had a pound of marijuana in car. A POUND.  Now, it must be noted that Green-Beckham and the two other men in the car were released without charge or bail while the incident was investigated. Green-Beckham was arrested in his first year on drug possession, too. Last year, Green-Beckham caught 59 catches for 883 yards and 12 TDs. BOTTOM LINE: Although Green-Beckham’s father is that he ‘wouldn’t be charged’ it’s should be hard for police NOT to charge a group of three people with a pound of

Badgers, Bulldogs, and .341: SEC Bowl Preview

The blessing of bowl season in the SEC is that you don’t have to overdo it with SEC previews until pretty much the last minute. Well, thank God for the NFL Sabbath, which gave yours truly a little more chance to digest some (more) turkey and adult beverages and put together his SEC preview. And don’t worry: We haven’t forgotten you, Auburn. We are just doing yours seperately. MONDAY DECEMBER 30TH  MUSIC CITY BOWL: OLE MISS VS GEORGIA TECH  Georgia Tech and Ole Miss ended the season in heartbreaking fashion. Georgia Tech by giving up a 20-point lead over hated rivals Georgia, and then losing in double overtime, while Ole Miss quarterunning backack Bo Wallace fumbled on his way to

Juco National Signing Day: Big Wins for Texas A&M and Auburn; Saban solid

Junior College National Signing Day which started Wednesday had some pretty major headlines.  Auburn continued their incredible run of success in the recruiting field by persuading the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the country previous LSU commitment WR D’haquille Williams to sign for the Tigers, but also lineman DaVonte Lambert to not play for Tennessee but play on the Plains. Lambert and Williams will be joined by lineman Xaveer Dampeer, as well as Willams’ teammate Derrick Moncrief, who plays safety. – Texas A&M: British offensive guard Jermaine Eluemunor – who had switched from UCLA to Arkansas to College Station  in one of the more eyebrow-raising and indecisive recruiting sagas – stayed with the Aggies to pen his decision. The Aggies beat the two
