Auburn backup cornerback to transfer

Auburn backup sophomore cornerback Kamyrn Melton has said that he is going to transfer. Melton said: “I want to thank Coach Malzahn and the Auburn coaching staff……After praying and having a discussion with my family to transfer.” Melton was a three-star recruit, and ranked as the 18th best overall player in Alabama, where he hails from. He was ranked the 41st best cornerback in the country. He had been hotly pursued all the way through high school by the Tigers. The move follows injuries to Jonathan Jones and TJ Davis, and the departure of Mackenro Alexander to South Florida and Kalvarez Bessent. Bessent was arrested three days after National Signing Day for marijuana possession in 2014.  In other words, this

Alabama, Auburn talking to FSU about match-up

Alabama and Auburn is talking to Florida State about possible future match-ups, Florida State website Tomahawk Nation has said. According to the site, which quotes sources, Alabama vs FSU is the most likely of match-ups, taking in place in Atlanta in the new Falcons Stadium in 2017. Auburn’s game against FSU would take place in Jacksonville in 2019. An Alabama-FSU game would see the reunion of Alabama coach Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher, who was his former defensive co-ordinator at LSU. Georgia and South Carolina, the site noted, had been talked about possible future games for the Seminoles, but contracts could not be signed up. Florida State already plays one SEC game every year when it plays Florida around Thanksgiving.

John Chavis suing LSU AND Texas A&M, LSU sues back

Surely, this must be the weirdest story out there today. Texas A&M DC John Chavis is suing former employer LSU as well as his current employer Texas A&M over this new contract. Chavis, who left LSU at the end of the season for College Station, where he replaced much harangued/awful defensive co-ordinator Mark Snyder, is suing LSU because the Baton Rouge school has asked Chavis for $400,000 which he claims he does not owe. According to College Station TV station KBIX’s website, John Chavis was given the right to terminate his employment agreement with the Tigers “without cause with 30 days notice.” It added: “If there were between zero and 11 months left on the deal, Chavis claimed he would

LSU, Auburn rob top co-ordinators and recruiters from Alabama

LSU and Auburn have both taken defensive co-ordinators from their biggest rival, Alabama. In a stunning Tuesday, Kevin Steele, the Crimson Tide’s inside linebackers coach, defected to LSU to become the Tigers’ new defensive co-ordinator, after John Chavis left for Texas A&M after the firing of Mark Snyder before the bowl season after an awful season for the Aggies. Steele had previously been a defensive co-ordinator at Clemson, where his team saw 70 dropped on them by West Virginia in the 2012 Orange Bowl. LSU fans and bloggers weren’t too happy about Steele’s signing. “The Valley Shook”, the LSU website, said that he suspects the hire “will go over like a fart in church“. Also, LSU announced that they’d sign

Auburn freshman shot and killed

Auburn redshirt freshman Jakell Mitchell has been killed in an off-campus shooting. Mitchell, who is a tight end, was rushed into hospital after being shot multiple times at an apartment complex in Auburn. Mitchell was expected to compete for the H-Back spot in the oncoming season, although he had not seen any football action since his junior year in high school, when he tore his ACL. He committed to Auburn in May 2013 as a three-star recruit, Auburn247sports.com reported. The news comes just after a big celebration on campus for Auburn Football after they confirmed that they had hired Will Muschamp as defensive co-ordinator. None of that matters now. All that matters is prayers for Mitchell’s family and the prayers

Auburn hires Muschamp as defensive co-ordinator

Auburn has hired former Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp as defensive co-ordinator, the school has announced. According to ESPN, Muschamp will be paid $1.6m to $1.8m annually – making him “college football’s highest-paid defensive co-ordinator”. “I’m excited to welcome Will back to Auburn as our new defensive coordinator,” Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement. “Will is a one of the top defensive minds in college football who has great passion and energy for the game. He is a tremendous addition to our staff.” Muschamp’s Florida Gators defenses were not the problem during his stint in The Swamp – it was his offense. Muschamp is no stranger to Auburn, having been the school’s defensive co-ordinator from 2006 to

LSU and Texas schedule each other for home-and-home

Praise The Lord of beautiful co-eds in burnt orange, white shorts and cowboy boots! Praise The Lord of purple, bourbon, and great food! Praise Him! Praise Him indeed! OK, now we’ve stopped saying praise, we can open our eyes and say that according to reports, LSU and Texas have schedule a home-and-home starting 2019. Sure, that’s 5 full seasons away (giving both sides good time to cancel), but right now, we’re pretty excited. The games will be played in Austin on September 7th 2019, and in Baton Rouge in 2020. This is going to be a very, very expensive ticket, with Texas fans wanting to party their ass off in New Orleans, and LSU fans wanting to do the same

SEC Preview 2014: Can Leonard Fournette and LSU’s young talent bring them unexpected glory?

Stop if you’ve heard this before: LSU was ravaged by NFL Draft in 2013, and was ravaged by the NFL Draft in 2014. Les Miles lost NINE players for the 2013 season to the NFL Draft, and lost a further NINE to the 2014 Draft. And there were others who left for the NFL Draft and didn’t find a suitor because they had such an overrated and crappy 2013 (we see you, Anthony ‘The Freak’ Johnson!). Anyway, Les Miles has had to reload yet again. So what’s going to happen in 2014? Probably something crazy. LAST SEASON With your head coach being bats*** crazy (remember, this was a guy who let his TEAM vote on whether they wanted to keep

2014 SEC Preview: Can Auburn make it two straight SEC Championships?

The 2014 SEC season is nearly upon us, so it’s high time (no pun intended, Nick Marshall) that we start our round of 14 SEC previews with the Auburn Tigers. We were thinking about starting with favorites Alabama, or the Yell Boys at Texas A&M, but we realised that we do previews, we start with the Champions – and those were the Tigers, who beat Missouri in a 59-42 shoot-out in Atlanta. Anyway, here’s your preview of the 2014 Auburn Tigers. LAST SEASON This was an incredible season to be an Auburn fan. ‘War Eagle’ finished 12-1 and 7-1 in the SEC, with their only loss coming at LSU. They beat Alabama and Georgia in stunning circumstances, with ‘Kick-Six’ and

UGA dismisses another safety

You can’t make this up – Georgia has dismissed another secondary player. This time, it’s rising sophomore Tray Matthews. With Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins off the team, the Bulldogs’ secondary was already looking a little thin, and then Mark Richt hit the Bulldog Nation with this bomb. “We are trying to make room for guys who want to do things right“, Richt said. Matthews refused to mention why he’d been dismissed, saying that he “couldn’t talk about it right now”. He also tweeted that he could end up playing for Auburn or Louisville. Matthews had been arrested for three counts of theft in the off-season, in a charge relating to double-dipping on scholarship checks, Macon.com has reported. Matthews, who
