Auburn hires Muschamp as defensive co-ordinator

Auburn has hired former Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp as defensive co-ordinator, the school has announced. According to ESPN, Muschamp will be paid $1.6m to $1.8m annually – making him “college football’s highest-paid defensive co-ordinator”. “I’m excited to welcome Will back to Auburn as our new defensive coordinator,” Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement. “Will is a one of the top defensive minds in college football who has great passion and energy for the game. He is a tremendous addition to our staff.” Muschamp’s Florida Gators defenses were not the problem during his stint in The Swamp – it was his offense. Nick Saban: I was not offered $100m by Texas

Nick Saban, head coach at Alabama, arrived at the SEC Media Days in the face of an eventful offseason. Firstly there were the rumors that he might be leaving Tuscaloosa for the bright lights of Austin and the Texas Longhorns. Today there was something going around that UT and its board of regents were preparing a $100m offer for him to dress in burnt orange in 2015 and beyond.   He said: “Well, I didn’t have any conversations with them.  Nobody offered me anything.  So I guess if I didn’t have any conversations with them, I didn’t have very much interest.  I think the University of Texas is a fantastic place, and they’ve got a lot of wonderful people there,

The 6ft 2, 190lb Lodge, from Cedar Hill HS, TX,  is rated for fourth-best wide receiver in the country, and sixth-best player in the State of Texas, and 35th-best player overall. Lodge was offered by a large number of big-time programs, including Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Clemson, LSU, Ole Miss, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and USC. Mississippi State OC hired by Texas

Mississippi State offensive co-ordinator Les Koenning – fresh from a bowl victory and a win in the Egg Bowl over Ole Miss – is leaving Starkville to be the new wide receivers coach at Texas, according to the Clarion-Ledger. The Clarion-Ledger noted: “Under Koenning’s guidance MSU’s offense set numerous school records, culminating in 13 this season. He also worked with the quarterbacks developing both Tyler Russell and Dak Prescott. Russell leaves the program with a handful of single season passing records. Many analysts are calling Prescott a sleeper for next year’s Heisman.” This season Mississippi State – with Tyler Russell injured for most of the season and Dak Prescott replacing him – was 43rd  in the nation in total rushing

Nick Saban to Texas, Or Not?

Brown himself said that he wasn’t leaving, saying that he was on a recruiting trip to Florida, telling Jimmy Burch at Horns247: “I’m in Florida recruiting. If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn’t be killing myself down here.” Now, a tweet from Stefan Stevenson of the Texas Star-Telegram said: “Source close to Texas executive

Here come the Tigers!!! SEC Power Rankings Week 7

Right, it was a pretty nuts absolutely ****ing crazy weekend in college football. CRAZY. Stanford goes down to Utah.  4 overtimes in Happy Valley see Michigan lose to Penn State. Several ranked teams struggle….including Clemson and Baylor. In the SEC, injury-hit Georgia (almost predictably….apart from Vegas) lost to Missouri, who had a BIG INJURY of their own. Florida was awful in its loss at LSU, who found a defense for the first time this season. Oh, and Johnny Football was Johnny Football. Anyway, here’s our SEC Power Rankings, which are proving increasingly difficult. 1) Alabama: This one’s pretty easy. Alabama maybe caused themselves one of the biggest upsets of the season, by coming out of the first quarter with Kentucky scoreless.

Gators rising- SEC Power Rankings Week 6

Georgia came through Knoxville ‘scathed’ but with an overtime victory. South Carolina survived a furious comeback from Kentucky. Auburn survived a furious comeback from Ole Miss. LSU blew an early lead against Mississippi State and then hit another gear and blew ’em out. Florida and Arkansas was a nasty game…and not in a good way. Alabama had no problems with Georgia State…apart from keeping the score down. Oh, and in the ‘Under-The-Radar Game Of The Day’….Missouri destroyed Vanderbilt…which really impressed us. 1) Bama- Not about today’s destruction of GSU (it could have been 70, let’s face it!), but this team’s D and no little offense is the best team in the country. 2) Florida- Defense is nasty. Offense is not

ESPN: Nick Saban’s agent spoke with Texas regent, Saban rebuffs story

Nick Saban’s agent spoke with a Texas regent, according to a report from the Associated Press. The AP report – which does nothing to scotch rumors that the Alabama coach might become the next coach at Texas after Mack Brown leaves at the end of the season – said: “Regent Wallace Hall of Dallas told the AP he spoke by telephone with agent Jimmy Sexton a few days after the Jan. 7 title game. Tom Hicks, a former regent who is the brother of current regent Steve Hicks, also was on the call. Tom Hicks, the former owner of the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Stars and the English professional soccer team Liverpool, was a regent in 1997 when Brown came to Texas and
