Read moreKevin Duffey of Saturday Down South wrote an amazing article about 100 things that he loved about college football, and I felt inspired. So here’s a 100 things that I love about college football (including, of course, the SEC!). And this is no particular order. That college football came back after it looked like COVID-19 would shut it all down. College Gameday. That moment when it starts, and you get the ‘Welcome to….” and you take a deep breath and get excited, very quickly. At last, your Saturday is starting. Fox’s show is fine, but Gameday is Gameday. Rivalry games. No.1 best rivalry title? “The Holy War” (Utah vs BYU), although ‘The Civil War’ and “Good, Ole Fashioned-Hate” comes close. “Red

According to multiple media sources, the Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 have all decided that they will play a nine-game conference-only season It is an effort to cut down the season and make it work, as well as give schools some wiggle-room if there an outbreak of COVID-19 on teams and campuses. For the SEC a bunch of non-conference games will be affected, including (sadly), Clemson vs South Carolina, Georgia vs Georgia Tech, Louisville vs Kentucky and Florida State vs Florida. Notre Dame have been told that the ACC will accommodate Notre Dame in its own schedule. For the Big Ten the biggest match-ups being lost are Notre Dame’s game with Wisconsin, Penn
Read moreFlorida incoming freshman cornerback – and four-star recruit Justin Watkins has been arrested for the second time in three months. He has been suspended indefinitely by coach Dan Mullen. Watkins’ first arrest was trespassing on another high school’s grounds that he didn’t attend (which isn’t a big one), but a quadruple felony. This included two first-degree counts of kidnap (false imprisonment), a third-degree count of domestic battery by strangulation, according to records. The freshman was offered by Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Clemson and Texas before deciding to go to Gainseville. Looks as though he’s going somewhere else after this short stint.
Read moreArkansas has hired Chad Morris to be its new head coach, the school said on Wednesday. Morris, who was formerly the coach of SMU and turned the school around after two poor seasons to a 7-5 record, will earn $21m over 6 years for his services. Morris is well-known as a fantastic recruiter in the State of Texas thanks to his links as a former high school coach, and his up-tempo offense helped to galvanize Clemson to the powerhouse when he was there as offensive coordinator. The new coach will replace Bret Bielema, who was fired after weeks of speculation. Morris will not get it easy in a stacked SEC West – which just became more stacked with the arrival
Read moreTexas and Texas A&M fans are both really, really pissed off. They pissed off with their teams. They are pissed off with their coaches. They are pissed off with their administrations. They remain pissed off with each other about their separation thanks to the Longhorn Network and ‘Texas Greed’. And also, they are pissed off because the Texas vs Texas A&M rivalry – which was played for 96 years straight – is no more thanks to the behavior of both schools. What has united the State of Texas has been Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey was so devastating to Houston as well as the surrounding areas, that people are going to take years to recover from them. United in the grief have
Read moreThis year the rumors were hotter than ever that Lane Kiffin would get a prized coaching job. And even hotter that they would be in Houston, following Tom Herman’s decision to go to Texas to be the new head coach. It looked a slam-dunk. The good people at USA Today reported so. And then suddenly, there was a U-Turn in the Houston ranks, who instead decided on former UH offensive coordinator Major Applewhite to be the head coach. The school’s logic? Houston’s board of regents chairman Tilman Fertitta (great name, by the way sir) called into a radio station and said: ‘”Lane Kiffin did not show me anything that Major Applewhite did not show me. Sure, he’s been a head
Read moreEd Orgeron has been named as the head coach of LSU after a crazy Thanksgiving period. On Thursday – before LSU’s visit and subsequent demolition of Texas A&M – there were rumors that Tom Herman, the much-sought-after Houston coach would be departing for Baton Rouge and was just about to pen a deal. Joe Alleva tried to put messages out to the media saying that no discussion whatsoever had happened. LSU then crushed A&M 54-39 in a win that was even more dominant than that (the Aggies got their touchdown in the dying seconds), playing without Leonard Fournette, Arlen Key and a number of other stars. The players started cheering for Alleva and his staff to ‘Keep Coach O’, who is

Read moreMissouri has dismissed redshirt sophomore defensive end Marcus Loud for a violation of team policies, the team has said. According to website RockMNation, the dismissal of the 6-4, 260lb DE was not on legal grounds. Loud was one of the favourites to start at the position this year. In 2014 he played all 14 games for Missouri, putting up 14 tackles and a tackle for loss, Loud, from Wheatley, TX, was a 3-star recruit in the Tigers’ 2012 class as the 54th-best strongside defensive end in the country, according to recruiting site 24-7. He spurned offers from Mississippi State, TCU and Michigan State (amongst others) before deciding to play in Columbia.
