You can’t make this up – Georgia has dismissed another secondary player. This time, it’s rising sophomore Tray Matthews. With Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins off the team, the Bulldogs’ secondary was already looking a little thin, and then Mark Richt hit the Bulldog Nation with this bomb. “We are trying to make room for guys who want to do things right“, Richt said. Three Texas A&M players arrested

Three Texas A&M football players have been arrested on outstanding warrants, it has emerged. Wide receiver Edward Pope, defensive linesman Gavin Stansbury and defensive back Howard Matthews Jr were all arrested on Thursday night. KBTX in College Station tells the story like this: “College Station Police stopped a 2008 Pontiac on Texas Avenue, around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, for an expired registration. Edward Pope, a sophomore wide receiver, pulled into the Freebird’s parking lot. When police ran his license, they discovered Pope was wanted on a College Station municipal warrant for Failure to Appear. So, they arrested him. Richt’s reaction to Georgia arrests

Georgia coach Mark Richt has said that there will be “consequences” for the four players who were arrested for double-dipping on their stipend checks on Monday night. “Obviously we had some guys that did foolish things, and there will be consequences”, he said in a press conference after Georgia’s Spring Practice on Tuesday, even though safety Tray Matthews, defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor and James DeLoach and wide receiver Uriah LeMay all practiced on Tuesday. The four were charged with ‘theft by deception’ for cashing in stipend checks from the Georgia Athletic Department, totalling about $786 (or $71 each). “You don’t want to act like it didn’t happen. Four Georgia players were arrested on Monday night for theft, the Athens Banner-Herald has reported. The four arrested are safety Tray Matthews, defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor and James DeLoach and wide receiver Uriah LeMay. The four were arrested and charged with ‘theft by deception’. Clemson suspends four for Georgia clash

Clemson has suspended four players before the season-opening clash against Georgia. Defensive end Corey Crawford, guard David Beasley, cornerback Garry Peters and offensive tackle Shaq Anthony were all told that they weren’t be going to Sanford Stadium to face the Bulldogs….who dismissed starting safety Josh Harvey-Clemons earlier this off-season. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said: “A huge part of our program is teaching accountability, responsibility and that there are consequences for your actions. Vanderbilt replaces Tata with Utah State assistant

Vanderbilt has snagged Utah State’s defensive line coach Frank Maile, the Salt Lake Tribune has reported. The Tribune noted: “In the last two years alone, five of his linemen earned all conference honors: Al Lapuaho, Connor Williams, Jordan Nielsen, A.J. Patiali’i and B.J. Larsen.” The paper noted that Maile was well-known for his in-state recruiting, and especially his recruiting of Polynesian recruits. That could be some asset for new coach Derek Mason’s team if Maile continues that vein of form. Maile replaces Vavae Tata, who arrested for DUI earlier this month.

Vanderbilt suspends assistant coach

Vanderbilt has suspended defensive line coach Vavae Tata indefinitely after he was arrested for DUI, the Tennessean is reporting. According to the report, Tata was charged for being off his tatas on Saturday night, blowing a .18 on his breathalyzer test, more than twice legal blood-alcohol limit of .08%, according to an affidavit released by Davidson County. Which was quite good going, if you think about it. It’s not Tata’s first brush with the law: He was arrested for DUI in 1997 and convicted in 2000. LSU left tackle La’el Collins has decided to stay at LSU for his senior season. The giant tackle, who weight 315 pounds and stands 6 ft 5, decided to stay in school after starting for 25 games that he could have featured in. It hasn’t been a good off-season for LSU fans in terms of juniors decided to go to the draft, with star wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, star redshirt sophomore running back Jeremy Hill, and Collins’ cohort on the offensive line, Trai Turner, deciding that it would be time to go pro. LSU junior running back Jeremy Hill and guard Trai Turner have both declared for the NFL Draft. Hill said on his Twitter account: “I am a Tiger for life. I will forever be grateful to my LSU fans, friends, coaches and family. Before the season, running back Jeremy Hill was arrested for blindsiding a guy outside Tigerland in Baton Rouge. Les Miles toyed with throwing him off the team, but instead the team voted on whether to keep him on the team….and would you believe it, the LSU players decided to keep their star running back.
