UGA linebacker to transfer

UGA linebacker Brandon Burrows has been granted an unconditional transfer, the University of Georgia has said. Mark Richt, Georgia’s coach said: “Brandon is an outstanding person, student-athlete and has a wonderful family. We’ve enjoyed having him as part of our program and will provide whatever assistance we can in his transition. I am completely understanding of his decision and wish him nothing but the best.” Burrows’ statement said: “I came out of high school playing the defensive end position in a 4-3 defense which is what I truly love. Scheduling: Saban turns down Wisconsin series offer

Nick Saban has turned down The University of Wisconsin’s offer of a home-and-home series, the Wisconsin State Journal has reported. According to the report, ESPN had tried to push for having Alabama play Wisconsin at a Neutral Site, but Wisconsin AD – and  former legendary Badgers head coach – Barry Alvarez  said current coach Brett Bielma “countered with an offer to play a home-and-home series with the Crimson Tide — no specific years were discussed — but that Alabama coach Nick Saban declined.” CBSSports noted in an article that Saban is much happier with his Alabama team playing games at neutral sites rather than home-and-homes, and noted that Alabama haven’t played two BCS conference opponents in any one year. Dyer will not play for Arkansas State in 2012

Former Auburn running back Michael Dyer’s on-the-field reunion with Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn will have to wait a year, the Associated Press has reported. The NCAA decided not to allow Dyer – who transferred from Auburn to Arkansas State in the off-season – to play for the Red Wolves in 2012. Arkansas State had asked the NCAA to allow Dyer to waive its one-year sanction on transfers, but the NCAA denied their application. Although Dyer had a brilliant on-the-field career with Auburn, where he rushed through Bo Jackson’s freshman rushing record in 2010, won a National Championship, and kept an otherwise fairly inept offense afloat in 2011 with 1,200 yards rushing, his off-the-field career was somewhat acrimonious. It’s Official: College Football Has Its Play-Off

After 100 years of controversy, College Football at last has its play-offs, starting in 2015, the NCAA has said. The four-team play-off will start in 2015, and the first ‘Final Four’ will be chosen by Selection Commiteee – and teams will be ranked on Win-Loss record, strength of schedule, head-of-head and then if a team is conference champion, USA Today reporter Nicole Auerbach tweeted. Sumlin suspends two A&M players

Kevin Sumlin, the new Texas A&M coach, has wasted no time as a disciplinarian, suspending two starters for the first game of the season. Junior linebacker Steven Jenkins and defensive back Howard Matthews  were each given a one game ban for violating team policy. What they did is not quite clear. Matthews had 28 tackles and two sacks in his first season for the Aggies, while Jenkins had 61 tackles and 1 sacks in 2011. One A&M fan tweeted: “Well, that was quick. Recruiting: Texas A&M grabs new WR commit

Texas A&M continued its recent excellent run of commitments by grabbing former wide receiver commit Kyrion Parker. The 6 ft 3, nearly-200 lb player  from Texas had previously committed to LSU before de-committing to play for Sumlin instead. “I just loved the coaching staff there,” Parker reportedly told 247sports.com in an interview. “Coach Sumlin is a great guy. CFB Commissioners come to consensus on play-off

BCS Commissioners have come to a decision on how they want to go ahead with a college football play-off, the Associated Press has reported today. ESPN said: “The commissioners who have been working on reshaping college football’s postseason to create the first major college playoff met for four hours and emerged together with a commitment to stand behind a plan. Though they were stingy with providing details of that plan.” The news service added that Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott had remarked that the two national semi-finals would be worked into the bowl system, although nothing is solid. Recruiting: Alexander commits to Arkansas

Four-star athlete Dominique Alexander has committed to Arkansas, it has been widely reported. Alexander, who comes from Oklahoma, was the only player recruited by a SEC school, wasted no time in giving the Razorbacks his commitment. “I’ve always wanted to go to Arkansas. It’s been my dream for a long time,” he told ESPN. “It’s playing in the SEC and playing against the best.” Alexander was also offered by Houston, Texas Tech, and Utah State, amongst others.
