Texas A&M players test positive for COVID-19

An un-accounted for amount of Texas A&M have tested positive for COVID-19, the team has reported. Ross Bjork, the AD of the Aggies, said that ‘less than five’ players had tested positive for the virus, but declined to give further details (he’s basically in line with what’s been happening in Texas over recent months when it comes to COVID-19). “We knew we would have positive tests,” Bjork said. “That’s why you do the tests, to verify that your plan is working and to verify the health and safety of athletes, which is the most important thing. “Once there’s a positive test, there’s an action plan, we follow all the safety procedures.” As mentioned with our Alabama article last week, the

Where does Tua Tagovailoa’s brother go next?

Tualia Tagovailoa, the brother of Tua Tagovailoa, is to transfer from Alabama, has entered the transfer portal, according to many media reports. Tagovailoa’s departure comes hot on the heels of not only the drafting of his brother to the Miami Dolphins but also the arrival of Bryce Young, a five-star freshman who is said to be fighting out Mac Jones for the No.1 spot. Also Tualia came in as a four-star himself from Alabaster, Alabama (he was moved to Alabama to be closer to his brother in Tuscaloosa), and was named as a first-team, All-State 7-A player, and fifth-best pro-style quarterback in the country. The No.1 player was Spencer Rattler, who is considered to be the de-facto starting quarterback at

The forgotten men of great SEC teams

For good or for bad, SEC people can bend your ear until they’ve practically ripped it off about the Cam Newtons, Tim Tebows, Reggie Whites, Trent Richardsons and Tuas of memory. Of course Georgia fans will regale you with stories about Herschel, ‘Florida men’ will even talk about Spurrier’s frighteningly good offenses, and someone from Arkansas might chime about Darren McFadden. But there are the forgotten men. It goes without saying that most offensive and defensive linesmen are these ‘forgotten men’, but every team who’s won a National Championship tend to have a good offensive line. It helps with putting up the points. So please don’t get annoyed if we ignore them. We’re not going to just doing National Championships

What happened to these SEC greats?

In life, there are SEC players we remember. We all know what happened to Peyton Manning, Matt Stafford and Julio Jones. On the other hand, we remember – sadly – what happened to Aaron Hernandez. But there are some players where you sit there and think: “Damn! What happened to these guys. They were GOOD in college”. So here are your players. We’ve gone with one or two per SEC team. So if you’ve got any further ideas, let us know. ALABAMA Tyrone Prothro: Playing in Tuscaloosa from 2003 to 2005, Prothro pulled off one of the most memorable, brilliant catches in 2002. It was so good it had me in tears. Then again, so did his career-ending injury that made

2007 Memory: Florida vs LSU

With no SEC football in the near future, I decided to turn off the news and turn on what I enjoy the most: Good college football games. Most great college football games in the SEC in the past 10-15 years have generally been played by LSU. Because Les Miles coaches Les Miles, and Les Miles was/is batshit crazy. The 2007 season was no different. Going into the Florida game, The LSU team – which eventually won the National Championship – after one of the weirdest, most-fun seasons in college football memory – was going into Baton Rouge against one of its most hated rivals 5-0, having easily beaten its opposition, including No.9 Virginia Tech and No.12 South Carolina. Florida, on the

Top 20 SEC Games of 2019: Watch Again!

It wasn’t the greatest season of SEC games, but it was a great season to be an SEC fan. Whether it was the sheet craziness of the Alabama vs Auburn game (we’re still trying to work out how it all unfurled) to the rip-your-nose-off atmosphere in Athens for the visit of Notre Dame to the manic upsets involving Tennessee, it was fun. Here you can re-live your favourite SEC games. Some of them full-length, other of them simply highlights. Happily, not all of these have Gary Danielson commentating.  Alabama at Auburn FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE ALL THE CRAZINESS. 2. LSU at Alabama FOR JOE BURROW. 3. Oregon vs Auburn (Neutral Field) FOR THE MOMENT THAT YOU LIKED BO NIX

The SEC cuts all Spring Games

Doing their bit against COVID-19, the SEC has cancelled all of the Spring Games. The conference suspended all athletic activity until April 15th, although it would not be surprising if that is longer. This will leave a lot of coaches and players in the ‘corridor of uncertainty’. Players will want to know if they should stay around or transfer. Coaches will want to find out who their No.1 QB is in a live game. And of course, this also impacts recruiting, as high schools have either shut down completely, or schools have abandoned recruiting trips. Of course, you can expect a proliferation of online recruiting via Zoom and players’ meetings, as well as group ‘home’ weights sessions (most schools will

Drafting from the SEC: Stock tips

OK, so I’m your broker and the stock market is crashing. You look elsewhere, because you’re a gambling addict and you can’t sit on the loose change. ‘Let’s look at SEC Futures’, I tell you. Immediately, you’re thinking I’m talking about the Securities & Exchange Commission, and trying to work out whether the conversation that Larry and you had about bonds in the bar last night could have been eavesdropped by some genius in New York City. ‘No, no. It’s about the NFL,” I reassure you. “You know? The place where the owners couldn’t really give a crap about the fans. Yeah, they provide the atmosphere and add millions to their pockets in stupid merchandising, but it’s all about the

LSU hires new passing game coordinator

LSU has hired former St Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan to be its new passing game coordinator. Linehan will replace Joe Brady, who put together a stunningly brilliant offense, won the SEC and then the National Championship in convincing fashion. Brady is now the offensive coordinator at the Carolina Panthers, where he will work for former Baylor head coach Matt Rhule. Linehan is hardly the young mind that Brady was. He’s had a 30-year career both at NFL and college level Linehan started in 1989 with Idaho before moving onto Washington and Louisville, before he landed a NFL job as OC for the Minnesota Vikings and the Miami Dolphins, before becoming the head coach of the St Louis Rams between

Saban saying goodbye to Tua was brilliant theatre

When Nick Saban marched onto the podium with Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa yesterday, all I could think was: “He’s going to stay”. After all, most great players in Alabama history made their decisions and Nick Saban said very little about them. Maybe it was because he was too busy texting other recruits, or looking at game film on the next year’s starting opponents, or merely making sure Mrs Saban got her antiques delivery on time, but he didn’t seem to do it. This year, he was out there. “Tua has probably has had as much of an impact on our program here as any player that we’ve ever had,” Saban said. “And I’m not just talking about as a football
