(A Very Fast) Week 10 SEC Preview

After the Chicago Cubs won the World Series, this blogger feels like he’s been writing, drinking and tweeting all week long, so apologies if this SEC Week 10 preview is shorter than usual. So in order for you to read this (quickly), here’s a line on what we think will happen in each of the SEC games this week, which is – as usual – in order of importance. No.1 Alabama at No. 13 LSU — Alabama will do the same as they did last year and block off Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guise, and force LSU to throw. LSU’s QB Danny Etling really isn’t very good. Sure, LSU’s ‘D’ athletic enough to keep this close, but we still think

Star Tennessee RB to transfer?

Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd has told Butch Jones as well as his teammates that he wants to transfer, according to reports. Hurd apparently wants to play wide receiver and tight end at his new school – something he’s not doing in VolWorld. Hurd has 451 yards rushing and 3 TDs and 81 yards receiving and 2 TDs. He was injured for the Texas A&M game and was ineffective in his return games against Alabama and South Carolina. Tennessee staff said Hurd, a junior would meet with Jones later in the day. This is hardly wonderful news in a difficult three weeks for Tennessee, which has seen their team lose three straight painful games – especially last Saturday’s stunning loss

Who wins The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party?

A buddy of ours said on Facebook: “Georgia-Florida is the World’s Largest Cocktail Party, which Florida-Georgia is a crappy country group”. We sniggered, slightly, bearing in mind our memory of that goddawful band  ‘highlighting’ plays on CBS was that how we could have put our foot through our TV whenever we heard them ****ing singing. No.14 Florida vs Georgia If you’re a grad of Florida or Georgia, a student at Florida or Georgia, or a fan of Florida or Georgia, or merely want a fight on The Landing this weekend with a bunch of smashed-up ‘bros’ and their wives who are fighting each other too, you’ll probably be in Jacksonville. And if  you hate your life – because the game’s probably not going

The SEC: Consistently Inconsistent

I’ll be honest, it’s damned hard to work out the SEC this year. That’s because almost everyone’s really inconsistent. For example: Arkansas go and beat Ole Miss and then get massacred on the road to Auburn. They also had the chances to beat Texas A&M and killed themselves offensively, and then defensively, they killed themselves against Alabama. So what do we know about Bret Bielema’s side? Borderline – and very – erratic. And Bielema himself gets abused by his own professors. Which is kinda awesome. Then there’s Tennessee, who were some people’s dark horse pick to go to the Play-Off, but haven’t put together four good quarters of football all season long. That means that it’s been extremely exciting for

Week 7 SEC standings: Alabama smoking the opposition

People kept telling us how Tennessee could roll Alabama to stop the decade of pain on the Third Saturday of October, and we said (basically): “Are you ****ing joking? Tennesee hasn’t put together a whole game this year/ They’ve got a ton of injuries/ They turn the ball over too much/ They are going to get beaten by double digits”. We were right….Except we thought it MIGHT be closer than 35. Elsewhere, some Georgia fans are suddenly regretting the Kirby Smart hire after LOSING TO VANDERBILT, while Missouri fans are hating life. Mississippi State lost in overtime at BYU (anyone convert to Mormonism on the road trip?), while Arkansas stunned Ole Miss. This is a strange conference indeed…. So here are

SEC Week 6: Hurricanes, bad names, and long-ass games

The only thing anyone was talking about this weekend was the fact that the LSU-Florida game got ‘postponed’ because of Hurricane Matthew and never may see the light of day again, which could lead to quite a ruckus in the SEC Standings – especially in the SEC West. Both ADs Joe Alleva (LSU) and Jeremy Foley (Florida) and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey have made complete asses of themselves in all of this, and Sankey showed no backbone whatsoever. Now, back to football: College Gameday’s ‘crowd’ at the start of ESPN’s 3-hour college football preview might as well have been The 1/12th Man, bearing in mind how small the crowd was, but it grew larger as the day wore on. I

Week 5 SEC Predictions: Texas A&M to maul Tennessee?

LSU vs Florida might be have been interesting because it’s – you know – LSU vs Florida, but now it’s been postponed (and probably cancelled), the two biggest games are simple: Texas A&M hosting Tennessee and Alabama going to Arkansas. The rest? Georgia goes to South Carolina on Sunday (changed from Saturday), Auburn plays Mississippi State and no-one can wait for Vanderbilt vs Kentucky for what is clearly the game of the century. So with time not exactly on our side due to other circumstances, here are some SEC predictions in one sentence: Tennessee at Texas A&M – Jalen Hurd’s injured, and there are problems on the defensive line for UT. Texas A&M brings back Myles Garrett, too. This could be

LSU vs Florida POSTPONED due to Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew has postponed LSU’s clash with Florida at The Swamp on Saturday. Both sides do not have an open date in common, and Florida refused to budge on moving the game to Baton Rouge for Sunday or elsewhere in the country. “To try to put a road trip together of 150-plus people in a day and half, not knowing the condition of the roads, not knowing the conditions of the airports, trying to get equipment out there,” said Florida AD Jeremy Foley. “Again, not in the best interest of safety, not in the best interest of people that would be involved in that trip. … People in this state may be dealing with stuff that is far more significant, far more

Roll Tide Rolling: Week 5 SEC Rankings

What sickens us to the stomach is that we’re nearly at the HALF-WAY POINT of the College Football season, which is basically the worst thing that’s happened in 2016 since the last crappy thing that happened in 2016. Anyway, this week, the greatest thing that happened was Georgia beating Tennessee by a Hail Mary then getting a Dobbs-Nailed Boot to the nuts via another Hail Mary, aided by dumb playcalling and stupid penalties. What a game. Elsewhere, LSU looked damned good in utterly destroying Missouri, Alabama looked good for 2.5 quarters against Kentucky, and neither Florida or Vanderbilt looked good in their game. Texas A&M is also unbeaten but it looked pretty lacklustre against South Carolina, and the Ole Miss-Memphis game
