The forgotten men of great SEC teams

For good or for bad, SEC people can bend your ear until they’ve practically ripped it off about the Cam Newtons, Tim Tebows, Reggie Whites, Trent Richardsons and Tuas of memory. Of course Georgia fans will regale you with stories about Herschel, ‘Florida men’ will even talk about Spurrier’s frighteningly good offenses, and someone from Arkansas might chime about Darren McFadden. In life, there are SEC players we remember. We all know what happened to Peyton Manning, Matt Stafford and Julio Jones. On the other hand, we remember – sadly – what happened to Aaron Hernandez. 2007 Memory: Florida vs LSU

With no SEC football in the near future, I decided to turn off the news and turn on what I enjoy the most: Good college football games. Most great college football games in the SEC in the past 10-15 years have generally been played by LSU. Because Les Miles coaches Les Miles, and Les Miles was/is batshit crazy. The SEC cuts all Spring Games

Doing their bit against COVID-19, the SEC has cancelled all of the Spring Games. The conference suspended all athletic activity until April 15th, although it would not be surprising if that is longer. This will leave a lot of coaches and players in the ‘corridor of uncertainty’. Players will want to know if they should stay around or transfer. Coaches will want to find out who their No.1 QB is in a live game. And of course, this also impacts recruiting, as high schools have either shut down completely, or schools have abandoned recruiting trips. Jake Fromm declares for the NFL, Cade Mays declares for Transfer Portal

Two incidents, two moments, two…..Georgia? After a ton of Bulldog wailing and gnashing of teeth, Georgia quarterback decided that he’d had enough of Sanford, and declared for the NFL. For someone who has got worse as the season has gone on, his decision was questionable to say the least. For us, Fromm – after being taken in the 3rd round at best – is going to be a backup quarterback for a while. He’ll get his chance in 2022, and he’ll do fine. Saban saying goodbye to Tua was brilliant theatre

When Nick Saban marched onto the podium with Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa yesterday, all I could think was: “He’s going to stay”. After all, most great players in Alabama history made their decisions and Nick Saban said very little about them. Chad Morris joins Auburn as OC

In what should be an explosive meeting of minds, Chad Morris is joining Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator for Auburn. Morris, who was recently ousted as the head coach of Arkansas after 2 horrific years, comes with the reputation of quick-moving, high-scoring offenses – enhanced by years at Clemson where that was the case. He comes after former OC Kelly Dillingham went to Florida State to take up the same position there under new head coach Mike Norvell. For Malzahn, who probably looking for a bit of life in an offense that looked rather listless this season – including a quarterback that went from bad to OK in freshman Bo Nix, this arrival will be well-received by the Auburn faithful.

Mike Bobo is South Carolina’s new OC

Mike Bobo is returning to the SEC. The former Georgia OC has been hired by South Carolina to be the team’s new offensive mastermind under Will Muschamp after he left Colorado State. His job won’t be easy – He’ll be charged with improving one of the country’s worst offenses, which averaged 121st in yards per play in the country. He will replace Bryan McClendon as OC. Bobo started with a trio of winning seasons with Colorado State before 2-6 and 3-5 seasons in 2018 and 2019. He was sidelined in 2018 with peripheral neuropathy after he experienced numbness in his feet. Coaching-wise, he should be an ideal fit for South Carolina.
