Joey Gatewood transfers to Kentucky

Former Auburn QB Joey Gatewood has transferred to Kentucky. Gatewood left the Tigers in the middle of the season when it became obvious that he wouldn’t overtake Bo Nix in Gus Malzahn’s pecking order – a move that was ridiculed by Auburn Nation (at least until the Tigers beat Alabama last week). He came to The Plains in 2018 as a highly-recruited player, where he totalled 5 touchdowns and over 200 yards in combined passing and rushing. It is expected that junior Lynn Bowden, who has carried the team with 1,235 yards and 11 TDs (including 284 against Louisville) after coverting from the wide receiver spot will return to his original place. Missouri’s the worst team in the SEC: Week 8 rankings

OK, so I’m still trying to work out who the worst team in the conference (Missouri, South Carolina or Vanderbilt). I know one thing for certain: Missouri’s got the worst offense (and one of the best defenses). South Carolina got a win after Spurrier left, but they are still awful. Ole Miss beats five SEC schools to 2015 4-star RB

Ole Miss has added four-star running back Eric Swinney. Swinney, who’s from Sandy Creek HS from Tyrone, GA, was heavily recruited by Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas, Georgia and Tennessee. Florida State, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin also pursued him. Swinney, 5ft-10 and 188lb, is ranked by 24-7Sports as the 12th-best running back and 9th-best player in the State of Georgia.

Penn State: Richt looking at Penn State LB

Mark Richt has admitted that Georgia is already looking at Penn State players after NCAA sanctions on the Nittany Lions meant the school will effectively have nothing to play for over the next four years, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported. Richt told press at a UGA Day:  “Some colleges are going to be interested in some of their players, and we’re one of those schools. It’s pretty well-documented that we’re under our 85[-scholarship] limit. Recruiting: Vanderbilt lands defensive commitment

Vanderbilt has added defensive end Landon Stokes to its 2013 recruiting class, 24-7sports has reported. The Orlando Prep star had offers and interest from over 30 schools, including Missouri, the two Mississippi schools, as well as Clemson and West Virginia. Stokes – Vandy’s 13th overall commitment – is ranked as Rivals’ 31st-best weakside defensive ends in the country and the 96th player in all of Florida.

Recruiting: New WR commits to Mississippi State

Wide receiver Scott Austin has committed to Mississippi State, it has been widely reported. The 6 ft 4, 180 lbs receiver out of Biloxi was ranked as the 14th best player in the State by Rivals. “It came to the point where I had a lot of stress on me on where I wanted to go and who really wanted me at heart,” he told the Clarion-Ledger. “MSU has five receivers leaving and this is a good opportunity to probably start as a true freshman.” He is the third player in the Dan Mullen’s 2013 receiving corps to be over 6 ft 3, the Clarion Ledger noted. Southern Miss had also recruited Austin.

Recruiting: Florida adds QB commitment

The University of Florida have added a commitment at quarterback for its 2013 class, Gatorsports.com reported on Monday. Three-star Quarterback Max Staver committed to Will Muschamp’s side, decided to go for Gainseville instead of Dan Mullen’s Mississippi State, who had also given him an offer. Staver, from Brentwood, Tennessee, is ranked the 14th player in the State and the 27th in the country amongst pro-style quarterbacks nationally. “I called them and they asked me if I was ready to be a Florida Gator, and I committed on the spot,” he told the website. Staver had also been shown interest from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, but none of the other schools had offered him yet.

Recruiting: Georgia adds Recruit No.19

Georgia has added its 19th recruit of the 2013 season: Rico Johnson. Johnson, out of Swainsboro, Georgia, accepted after being offered a place at Saturday’s Mark Richt camp, the AJC reported. He told the paper: “That was my dream school; I always wanted to go there,” he said. “I told myself if I ever got an offer from Georgia, that would be the school I would go to.” He isn’t listed in any of Rivals’ rankings after swapping high schools, the AJC said, but added Appalachian State and Marshall had both offered him scholarships. Recruiting: Vanderbilt adds two commitments

Vanderbilt continued an excellent recruiting season so far by adding the commitment of cornerback Darius Sims from Memphis – the 11th ranked player in the State. This was widely reported on Twitter. Sims, who is ranked as a three-star defensive back by Rivals committed to the Commodores on Sunday. Vanderbilt beat Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss amongst other schools to Sims. Sims is 5 ft 9,  can run a 4.65 40 and has a 32 inch vertical – and Vanderbilt will hope he can frighten quarterbacks for years to come. The consensus No.1 player in high school football, Robert Nkemdiche,  today stunned the college football world by committing to Clemson over Alabama or LSU.
