Miami rats out Florida for recruiting violation, Gators win

The NCAA said today that Florida had been investigated for a recruiting violation involving former wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, but would not face sanctions. Although the NCAA did not mention Phillips, it did note that a ‘former Florida assistant coach’ visited a Florida prospect off-campus before the NCAA rules allowed for contact, adding that the Gators had suspended the assistant coach in question (Phillips resigned in June, incidentally), and that the “corrective actions and penalties self-imposed by the school were appropriate and assigned no additional penalties or measures.” The full statement from the NCAA is here. As first revealed by Saturday Down South, here is the diary for SEC Spring Games: March 21: Vanderbilt April 11: Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina April 18: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri April 25: Arkansas, Tennessee Kentucky was forced to cancel its Spring Game due to renovations at Commonwealth Stadium, while Texas A&M will not hold a Spring Game due to renovations at Kyle Field (same as 2014).

Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama the SEC’s biggest winners of National Signing Day

There were no surprises who the biggest winner was of National Signing Day – Alabama. But the two schools who made bigger noises than Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide was Auburn and Tennessee. Auburn managed to get the nation’s top-ranked DE Byron Cowart from under Florida’s noses,  as well as four-star LB/RB Jeff Holland, who was also chased by the Gators. And while we’re at it, four-star Javarius Davis decided to sign for Auburn rather than go to Gainseville too… – Tennessee picked up 5-star OT Drew Richmond, from Memphis TN. in the face of a strong battle from Ole Miss. SEC Bowl Predictions: Will Alabama Roll?

We were thinking of going with such articles as “SEC bowls we’re looking forward to”, but if we’re honest, we’re looking forward to all of ’em, unless we get drinking and then we stop watching football because we’re too busy catching up with THAT GUY who we went to high school with who’s back for a while to show off his new wife and tell everybody how he got that BIG CAREER in the city.
