Read moreSouth Carolina has made the early SEC splash in the transfer portal by getting commitments from former Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler, and his teammate Austin Stogner. This will significantly upgrade South Carolina’s offensive room, where they were a putrid 109th out of 130 in points-per-game. Rattler and Stogner leave as part of a wave of players leaving Norman after head coach Lincoln Riley departed for USC (the other one!) two weeks ago. And while it is hardly a surprise bearing in mind that South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer worked on Oklahoma’s staff from 2018 to 2020 as an assistant head coach as well tight ends coach. Gamecocks fans will be hoping to see the QB who was a preseason

Read moreKevin Duffey of Saturday Down South wrote an amazing article about 100 things that he loved about college football, and I felt inspired. So here’s a 100 things that I love about college football (including, of course, the SEC!). And this is no particular order. That college football came back after it looked like COVID-19 would shut it all down. College Gameday. That moment when it starts, and you get the ‘Welcome to….” and you take a deep breath and get excited, very quickly. At last, your Saturday is starting. Fox’s show is fine, but Gameday is Gameday. Rivalry games. No.1 best rivalry title? “The Holy War” (Utah vs BYU), although ‘The Civil War’ and “Good, Ole Fashioned-Hate” comes close. “Red

The news silenced practice for today – not great news for Dan Mullen’s team that start the season against Ole Miss on September 26th. Right now, practice is important. Earlier on, Ed Orgeron said about COVID-19: “”I think most — not all of our players — but most of our players have caught it… I think hopefully they don’t catch it again and hopefully they’re not out for games… I’m not going to say all of them…. But some players have caught it. I don’t know the percentage. Hopefully, that once you catch it, you don’t get it again.” Orgeron declined to talk about
Read moreOn January 13th, 2020, we will see the battle. Shere Khan versus Tigger. One Death Valley against another. A recently-awoken sleeping giant from the State where Laissez Les Bons Temps Roulee isn’t so much a catchphrase as a way of being against the perennial joke that’s now put the joke on others. It’s ACC vs SEC. It’s the battle between two recruiting powerhouses. Two well-liked coaches in Ed Orgeron and Dabo Swinney. Two high-octane offenses, featuring one quarterback who was a pretty much an afterthought this season, but exploded into a Heisman winner, a feature on the front cover of Sports Illustrated, a future Top-5 round pick, and the God of one of the most spellbinding offenses college football has ever seen.
Read moreThe College Football Play-Off is upon us on Saturday, and we’re all quite excited. After arguments over neutral site bowl games, losses to South Carolina/Arizona State/Kansas State, it’s all set in place, and 4 winners of 4 conferences are in the four semi-finals. As usual – it seems – the best team is being left out in Oregon, but that’s due to their self-shooting at Arizona State, so no sympathy there. But we’re here now, and it’s LSU, Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma who will battle it out for the National Championship on January 13th. On December 28th LSU will face off with Oklahoma and Ohio State will play Clemson. The one that’s being talked about offensively is the LSU
Read moreGame 7 of the World Series is drama enough. There are the ups, downs, shocks, disappointments and celebrations. You know, like Auburn’s season…..every year. Well, this year the drama increased when it was announced that freshman quarterback Joey Gatewood has left the team. He said in a Twitter update: “Throughout this process I have experienced highs and lows, trials and tribulations.” He added that he had been committed to the program since 2015, but added: “It is in the best interest of my family that I move forward”. Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said: “I really appreciated Joey. When you think about it, when he didn’t win the job earlier, he chose to stick around. Most quarterbacks this day and
Read moreJalen Hurts didn’t last a long time in College Football’s infamous transfer window: He’s going to Oklahoma. In a piece in the Player’s Tribune, he thanked Alabama for his career, and then said that he was “taking his talents” to Norman. “For that I have so many people to thank. People who’ve made a deep and lasting impact on my life, just from their paths crossing with mine. People who have helped me, trained me, or flat-out raised me. Or even just believed in me. Thank you, truly.” Hurts found himself behind Tua Tagovailoa for the whole season, although still bagged the headlines in the SEC Championship Game when he took over from his replacement – who was having a
Read moreThis Monday is the College Football finale between two teams that EVERYBODY thought would get there: Alabama and Clemson. It’s no secret that both teams are amazing. Both teams are stacked with first round draft picks. Both teams have five-star quarterbacks who been revelations. Both teams have insanely good wide receivers and running backs. And their defenses? Whoa. The only bad thing about the National Championship is that it’s going to be played in Santa Clara, California. My brother – who lives there – said to me: “Why in the hell are they having a massive college football game during rush-hour on a weekday? The place is hard to get to and isn’t a great stadium experience? The 49ers can’t even fill
