Three-peat for ‘Bama? 2013 Alabama College Football Preview

Is there ever going to be a year that Alabama will NOT be the favorite, or one of the favorites, for a national title? Well, after 2012, when Alabama waltzed home with its second straight National Championship, we’ll answer that: Probably not. Nick Saban’s the country’s best coach. Nick Saban’s one of the country’s best recruiters. All Nick Saban does (unless you’re referring to his NFL career) is win. His team brings back their starting quarterback who just knows how to win, and an exceptional wide receiver who doesn’t drop anything. Their running back stable is the best in the country. And their defence is frighteningly good. But will he get his third straight National Championship? A lot of people

Can The Tigers Roar? 2013 LSU Preview

It seems that any time that LSU does not win a National Title or is not in the conversation for a National Title, that Les Miles is the worst coach in the world, and should pay the penalty for his loss by not only getting fired, but spending the rest of his life carrying a 300lb millstone around his neck to remind him of the hurt that he impounded on the LSU faithful. Seriously. Well, last year, LSU not only wasn’t in the National Title conversation after losing to Florida 14-6 in a defensive battle/awful game in The Swamp, but they were waaaaay out of it after losing at home to Alabama in the Game Of The Century in Death

Alabama CB Smith suspended for Virginia Tech clash

Alabama sophmore cornerback Geno Smith has been suspended for Alabama’s opener with Virginia Tech after being  arrested for DUI in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said about the arrest: “We’ve never had an issue with Geno. He’s an excellent person…He’s never been in trouble here before, never been in my office for anything, but I think this is something that everybody should learn from that when you make a bad choice, sometimes the consequences of that choice can really have a negative effect.” “Some of these guys don’t have enough foresight to understand cause and effect, but Geno has been a really good person in the program and just made a choice, bad decision. Made several

Alabama CB arrested for DUI

Alabama sophmore cornerback Geno Smith was arrested for DUI in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night, it has been reported. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said about the arrest: “This is obviously not the kind of behavior that we expect from our players. I don’t have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I’ve had the chance to review the information“. Smith was released on bail on Sunday morning. The 6ft, 186 lb Smith had 9 tackles – including 4 solo – in his freshman season at Alabama, who the 2013 National Championship last season. Alabama indefinitely suspends starting LB

Alabama has suspended its starting linebacker, Trey DePriest, for a violation of team rules. The news was announced by Alabama coach Nick Saban on Tuesday. Nick Saban said that in a press conference that DePriest could be back in “as soon as a week“, and added that suspended tight end Malcolm Faciane’s 30-day suspension was over, and the player was back with the team. According to a tweet from Alabama beat writer Marquavius Burnett, Saban said: “There has to be consequences sometimes when you don’t do the right things.” Last season DePriest had 56 tackles – including 29 solo ones in 2012. There is speculation that DePriest’s suspension could help the development of freshman Ruben Foster. Alabama fans will be hoping

So who’s the best QB in the SEC?

As y’all know by this website, we spend our time being very, very nice about the SEC. But September rolls closer, we’re going to say a few things that you probably won’t like and certainly won’t agree with. But, as my uncle Hank said to me: “Opinions are like mouthholes. Everyone’s got one” (He may have substituted the word ‘mouth’ for something else, but not on this family website!)”. Listen, No. 1’s pretty good. Then again, so are Nos. 2 and No. 3. We predict all three of them to make a splash around draft-time in 2014, if they can stay injured and out of trouble. 1. Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M) Listen, we all know about the off-season that Johnny

LSU RB Hill not going to jail or getting kicked off team

Jeremy Hill’s immediate future is not behind bars, it seems. The star LSU running back was given extra community service after admitting simple battery in a fight outside a bar in Baton Rouge earlier this year – despite violating the terms of a parole given to him as a high schooler. Jeremy Hill called a press conference, which he went to with Les Miles, his coach in tow. Miles had indefinitely suspended the player for the fight. In a statement at a press conference (thanks, Tigerbait.com), he said: “I would like to thank Coach Miles and this university for giving me another chance to play football. I would like to apologize to my teammates and the community.” Miles added that Hill

Losing badly: Bad SEC memories

—- OUR GUEST WRITER ALEX FERGUSON WRITES FROM BLOG ‘VIEW FROM AMERICA’ WRITES——  It’s not the only time that I’ve written an anti-SEC piece – I’ve been going on and on about the SEC’s lack of red-hot non-conference schedule competition since God was a boy (and will probably continue to do so!!), but this article comes because as college football fans, we remember the bad times just as well as the good times. And as June 18th in my birthday – I’m 35 today (so remember to say Happy Birthday! to me after reading this) – I thought it was a bit of time to remember the bad times. I’m going through EVERY SEC team – that includes you too,

Alabama’s Derrick Henry fractures leg in practice

The University of Alabama has confirmed that freshman running  back Derrick Henry – who was expected to take the load behind T.J. Yeldon in the 2013 season – has fractured his leg in practice, and it out for the remainder of spring practice. We would be pretty surprised if he came back for the first game of the fall, too. Alabama coach Nick Saban said this: “Derrick Henry suffered a fractured fibula in Saturday’s scrimmage and had successful surgery this morning with Dr. Lyle Cain,” he said. “With the support of our medical staff and the hard work and dedication Derrick has shown since he arrived, we are confident that he will make a full recovery for the start of
