Georgia gets its mojo back: Week 10 SEC rankings

There were two major games in the SEC on paper: Georgia vs Florida and Mississippi State vs Texas A&M. And Missouri vs Kentucky was meant to be an afterthought. One untimed play later, and Kentucky was celebrating the victory that took them within one game – against Georgia – of the SEC East title. Georgia had earlier torn apart from Florid and later on Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald accelerated past Texas A&M. Alabama’s fun to make fun of for one major reason: The fanbase. If you are nasty about the Crimson, Alabama fans take it so damned personally. I mean, this blog on Twitter just mentioned the fact that Alabama had played only one team of any note this season (Texas A&M), and comparing it to the amount of ranked teams LSU teams played, and Bama fans hit Crazytown. Of course, when the two teams clash in Week 10 it’s going to be something special. Bielema’s seat heats up while Sumlin’s cools: SEC Power Rankings

It’s not every day that after a team loses in the SEC that you say that you believe that a head coach has made his job safer, but the performance of Texas A&M in their loss to Alabama certainly earned a ton of plaudits for head coach Kevin Sumlin in a wild day for college football. The Aggies never stopped battling the No.1 Crimson Tide – which is more than you can say for Arkansas, who dropped nearly 50 points on the road at South Carolina (21 of those in defensive touchdowns), as the words “buyout” and “Bret Bielema” became more and more entwined. LSU starts to tumble: Week 5 SEC rankings

Bama: 66-3 over a ‘high-power offense’. Enough said. Georgia: If your offense makes mistakes against Georgia, then the Bulldogs have enough ballhawks to make you pay. This is a really good team straight-up. We will see how they go against Florida is a few weeks…. Auburn: The Missouri tune-up led to a fantastic performance against MSU, with Jarrett Stidham having a banner day. If Auburn continues in this vein, the UGA game will be unmissable. Florida: 2-0 in the SEC and although Luke Del Rio’s done for the year, this guy Feleipe Franks can play. And so can the defense, people. Sure, it’s ugly, but Florida hasn’t lost since Michigan. SEC teams getting upset: The most stunning since 2012

We were thinking about doing an article in the shower about the best records in the SEC over the last five years, but they’ve already been nicely covered by everyone from Gridiron Now to Saturday Down South. You’ll be astonished to hear that Alabama’s got the best home record in the last five years, and the crappiest home record is Kentucky’s. Every time people think “Alabama offensive line”, there’s an automatic assumption that because their running backs succeed (and over the years, the success has been nothing short of stunning at college football level), it’s because they are holding the whole time and don’t get called for it. Who wins the SEC NOT-Heisman Award?

Congrats to Derrick Henry on winning the 2015 Heisman Award. It was deserved (Note: If the award had been given to Stanford’sChristian McCaffery it would have been deserved too). So now we were thinking about the SEC NOT-Heisman Award, given out to the Top Five SEC Players who have let us down the most this year. Missouri announces Odom as head coach

Missouri has promoted defensive co-ordinator Barry Odom as the Tigers’ new head coach. Odom, who has continuously helped to put together one of the best defenses in college football year in, year out was seen by many as a fantastic deal – particularly with the speculation that Odom may have jumped ship and gone to Memphis, who saw head coach Justin Fuente take the same position at Virginia Tech. Former head coach Gary Pinkel left his post at the end of a 5-7 season after announcing he had contracted lymphoma. The official announcement came just now.

Cal coach interviewing with Missouri

Cal Coach Sonny Dykes is one of a few coaches that are interviewing with Missouri, reports have said. Dykes – who is one of the Pac-12’s great offensive minds – is being interviewed alongside Air Force’s Troy Calhoun, Utah State’s Matt Wells, and Colorado State head coach and former Georgia offensive co-ordinator Mike Bobo. It seems obvious that Missouri is desperate for something offensively after a season where the team ranked 125th in the country in total offense – ahead of only Boston College, Kent State and UCF. We stand and applaud you, Missouri players

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not about to stand up and applaud anything that Missouri football players have done ON the pitch. They’ve been awful. They’ve been awful with quarterback Maty Mauk, and they’ve been awful with takeover quarterback Drew Lock. Their offensive line has more holes than Penn State’s – and that’s saying something – and if they actually played Kansas in a Grain War in 2015, the game wouldn’t end until 2016, such is the paucity of both offenses.
