Between Bobby Petrino and Houston Nutt, the Arkansas Razorbacks have put together winning seasons for seven years out of the last 10, including a pretty wonderful 11-2 run in 2011. Every year the SEC dominates other schools in bowl games (unless you’re Michigan State, but less said about that the better) quite simply because they have the most difficult conference. EVERY game is a bowl game,  a potential National Championship Game, or a big-time match-up. LSU coach Les Miles was his usual quotable self at his SEC Media Conference his Hoover, Alabama. Here are a list of some of the more juicy things he said in what was an unusually straight press conference. About the Alabama National Championship Game Loss: “‘I’ve seen [the game] a couple times. Georgia extends Richt’s contract

The Georgia Bulldogs have extended the contract of their sometime under-fire coach, Mark Richt, the school announced today. The three-year extension will mean that Richt – who still has two years running onto his contract – will stay with the Dawgs until the 2016 season – if he’s not let go (which is always a risk in the SEC). Last year Richt led Georgia from a 0-2 hole to winning the SEC East. They played well in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta before dropped passes eventually got the better of them and LSU won handily. SEC officially announces Independence Bowl tie-in

The SEC has officially announced its Independence Bowl tie-in with the ACC. The bowl, which will be played in Shreveport, Louisiana, will see the SEC’s No.9 team played the ACC’s No.6 team, and be bound in for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The bowl will be sponsored by 2012 AdvoCare V100. “We are obviously thrilled to be back in the game with the SEC,” said Jack Andres, the Independence Bowl’s chairman in a statement. “We enjoyed 15 years of success with them from 1995-2009, and we’ve hosted 10 of their teams in our game, including newcomers Texas A&M and most recently Missouri. Missouri reinstates QB

Quarterback Corbin Berkstresser has been reinstated to the Missouri team, the Kansas City Star has reported. Berkstresser was arrested in mid-May for leaving the scene of an accident after driving into a parked Oldsmobile and leaving. He was suspended from the team, but reinstated after the Columbia police downgraded the charge to a misdemeanour. Berkstresser is the Tigers’ back-up quarterback, and will be taking reps with current QB James Franklin currently recovering from shoulder surgery. Without him, the Star said, Missouri would have been struggling with quarterbacks, and have had to go to Ashton Glazer On this, the Star said: “Without him, Mizzou would have been down to its third-string signal caller in Ashton Glazer”.
