Georgia tops 2020 Recruiting Rankings

If recruiting had a National Championship, Georgia will be in the Top 4 year in, year out. For the 2020 class, Georgia would have topped the lot. After taking in 4 5-star recruits and 15 four-star recruits – including 6-5, 298lb OT Broderick Jones – who may well start now Cade Mays has transferred to Tennessee – and 6-4, 305lb OC Sedrick Van Pray – today, UGA cemented its ranking at the top. The Bulldogs’ class was highlighted the best corner in the nation – Kelee Ringo – deciding to head for Athens. He was fourth on 24-7’s composite player ranking. Last year UGA had the country’s No.2 recruiting class, and in 2018 the Bulldogs locked in the No.1 class.

After winning the National Championship, LSU’s winning the offseason, too

The ‘Geaux Tigers’ and ‘Perfect’ newspaper front pages have long been picked up from Bourbon Street. The smell of vomit and stale alcohol still remains, but that’ll be covered up when another big party comes along this weekend. The ladies of the night are all driving Escalades now after the joyful celebrations of the Cajun many, and somewhere a story will emerge that a liver-affected Louisianan did try and hatch out of a plan to, er, visit one of Louisiana’s best-known striped friends to cap off one of the best season’s college football has ever seen. It seemed funny that the headline-stealer for the offseason was not the person who (probably) tried to play Dr Dolittle with Mike, but Odell Beckham

Ole Miss fires Luke a day after Missouri cans Odom

The weekend was always going to be messy for head coaches. Nicknamed ‘Black Friday’ in the college football world, schools tend to get rid of the pieces that they don’t like as quickly as possible in an effort to show their all-important recruits as well as boosters that winning is all-important. At Ole Miss, Matt Luke lost his job after a 15-21 record (6-18 in the SEC) in three seasons. You could hardly blame Luke for failures after his first season. He was given a poisoned chalice in NCAA sanctions and the firing of Hugh Freeze. The boosters liked him, the players liked him (according to the Clarion-Ledger a number of players walked out of the meeting angrily) , but the powers-that-be,

Predictions for the Iron Bowl and all other SEC games

Get your last dose of jam-packed college football Saturdays this weekend. On your Thursday you can drift into Turkey hell with this year’s Egg Bowl (Ole Miss vs Mississippi State), go to Friday for the ‘Thank God the Season’s Over Bowl’ between Missouri and Arkansas, then refresh again for a Saturday with ‘Good Ole Fashioned Hate’ with Georgia vs Georgia Tech , The Commonwealth Cup (Louisville vs Kentucky) or one of the more underrated hate games in the South, the Clemson vs South Carolina game. Then move onto The Iron Bowl (which you can put on silent because Gary Danielson will be commentating on it), or 30 mins later Tennessee’s continuing story of redemption at Vanderbilt and then end up

The Worst Coaching Hires At Each SEC School

A few days after he was announced as the head coach of Arizona State, I put a tweet out that basically said how much the hire sucked. I wasn’t the only one. After last Saturday’s stunning win over Oregon, I might well have been wrong. That got me thinking to hirings that have happened in the SEC…..and the bad ones. We’re not going anywhere near Arkansas’ interim coaching hire John L. Smith, because he inherited Bobby Petrino’s trainwreck (or motorcycle wreck) and then Brett Bielema arrived. Every SEC school has had their crappy SEC hires. Some further back in time than others. ALABAMA: Jennings B. Whitworth (1955-57): Although circumstances weren’t great for Whitworth (he came after Harold Drew’s 4-5-2 season,

Tua should stay at Alabama next year

Alabama fans hadn’t mourned this badly since the death of Bear Bryant. Their star quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa was lying on the ground from a seemingly innocuous hit. A few minutes later, it was announced that he wouldn’t return to the game. A few hours after that, it was announced he wouldn’t be returning for the year. Alabama fans, still remembering his heroics in the 2018 National Championship Game against Georgia, asked themselves: “Will we ever see Tua play in Tuscaloosa again?” The general thought is ‘no’. He’s going to pack his bags and go straight to the NFL, where he’ll get millions as a top-round NFL Draft pick. But as Lee Corso says: Not so fast, my friend. There are

Post Week 11 SEC rankings: No beastiality thanks, but LSU rule

LSU’s band’s commitment to asking Alabama fans to commit beastiality on Mike The Tiger was evident on Saturday night, after the Tigers finally beat Alabama 46-41 in Tuscaloosa. It was a fantastic game. LSU plundered points from Alabama miscues, flying out to a 33-13 lead at half-time, before deciding to play conservatively, helping the Tide to roar back within 6. Then Joe Brady took the microphone back over, the spread offense which has entertained us all season long came back into action, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s touchdown in the final breaths of the game virtually confirmed victory. And to make matters better, Justin Jefferson, brother of one of the most hated LSU quarterbacks in history (Jordan), caught the onside kick that sealed

Should Mississippi State fire Joe Moorhead?

Twitter’s great in the morning. You can catch up with the daily highlights, wonder why people wake up and immediately write about hating or loving things about Donald Trump (DRINK SOME COFFEE PEOPLE!), as well as the usual prayer requests, sniping between Georgia and Florida fans, SEC rankings, excited-about-the-future Vols pictures (CUE HALF-NAKED MAN IN ORANGE AND WHITE OVERALLS)…..and a number of Mississippi State fans already asking for the head of Joe Moorhead. After all, the Bulldogs have lost four straight, including a stunning loss on the road to Tennessee and blowouts by Auburn and LSU. It’s been miserable. This season, we’ve seen the Cowbells that were so loud last year have gone very, very quiet. It’s gotten so bad that

Week 7 Rankings: Has Georgia blown its Play-Off chance?

Today was a fun yet weird week for the SEC. The weird stuff happened at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia, where the  No.3 Dawgs lost in double-overtime to a South Carolina side that was a 23-point underdog, but had also lost to Alabama, Missouri and, er, North Carolina. In Baton Rouge, LSU beat Florida 42-28 in an awesome game in the Bayou, with the Bayou Bengals surviving mostly by superior firepower on a night that featured parachutists coming down from heaven, a raucous crowd, College Gameday, and a lack of Gary Danielson. And on the other end of the spectrum, an awful UNLV team ran away from a terrible Vanderbilt side, Tennessee got its first SEC win of the season

Week 7 Preview: Who’s going to win the LSU-Florida clash?

It’s Week 7 in the SEC, and things are suddenly getting interesting. On Saturday night we’ve got the battle of the unbeatens as Florida travels to LSU. College Gameday will be there. It’s a night game in Death Valley, and thank God, Gary Danielson will not be there. Earlier, Alabama will go to Kyle Field to play Texas A&M on the CBS 3.30 game, and Georgia hosts South Carolina to start the day. Otherwise, it’s Mississippi State going to Tennessee (12pm), the battle of the NCAA-sanctioned as Ole Miss travels to Missouri, and a game that no-one should subject anyone to watch as Arkansas travels to Kentucky. Oh, and UNLV travels to Vanderbilt.   To say the least, it’s cardiac
