After the unbridled craziness of Week 7 (see Clemson, Washington and Washington State all getting upset) Alabama and Georgia still rule the SEC. While Alabama rolled, it wasn’t the most convincing of performances from Georgia, who only woke up in the second half of their game against Missouri. Dan Mullen’s getting close to leaving Mississippi State

If you believe the news, Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen is talking to Miami about the head coaching job in Coral Gables. The connection for Mullen and Miami isn’t a particularly difficult one. Mullen was the offensive co-ordinator and quarterbacks coach at Florida between 2005 and 2008, and is know as one of the better quarterback coaches in the game. Under Mullen’s leadership at Mississippi State, Dak Prescott became one of the best quarterbacks in college football in 2014 and 2015, and Mullen’s team also managed to get to No.1 in the polls in the regular season for the first time in the school’s history last year. It was quite a week in the SEC. And while it was about the football, it kinda was and it kinda wasn’t. We had Cam Newton threatening to slap the s_(& out of a heckler before the Iron Bowl, Les Miles getting chaired off against Texas A&M after he kept his job despite everyone saying that he was out of one, and Mark Richt getting booted from Georgia despite a 9-3 season. Miami rats out Florida for recruiting violation, Gators win

The NCAA said today that Florida had been investigated for a recruiting violation involving former wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, but would not face sanctions. Although the NCAA did not mention Phillips, it did note that a ‘former Florida assistant coach’ visited a Florida prospect off-campus before the NCAA rules allowed for contact, adding that the Gators had suspended the assistant coach in question (Phillips resigned in June, incidentally), and that the “corrective actions and penalties self-imposed by the school were appropriate and assigned no additional penalties or measures.” The full statement from the NCAA is here. Praise The Lord of beautiful co-eds in burnt orange, white shorts and cowboy boots! Praise The Lord of purple, bourbon, and great food! Praise Him! Praise Him indeed! OK, now we’ve stopped saying praise, we can open our eyes and say that according to reports, LSU and Texas have schedule a home-and-home starting 2019. Sure, that’s 5 full seasons away (giving both sides good time to cancel), but right now, we’re pretty excited. The games will be played in Austin on September 7th 2019, and in Baton Rouge in 2020. This is going to be a very, very expensive ticket, with Texas fans wanting to party their ass off in New Orleans, and LSU fans wanting to do the same
