Texas A&M and Arkansas match-up highlights Week 5 SEC plate: Preview

We’ll be honest. This SEC schedule on paper looked pretty strong when the season started, but right now, it’s actually pretty week. Look, we get that the match-up Texas A&M and a suddenly-reborn Arkansas in JerryWorld is pretty cool. South Carolina’s got College Gameday coming to its doors for the visit of Maty Mauk and Missouri, and if Tennessee trip to Georgia’s as good as it was last season, the game’s going to be a treat. But otherwise? Kentucky’s actually got a GOOD CHANCE to get its first SEC victory, when it hosts Vanderbilt. Could be your sleeper SEC game of the week. Anyway, here are our previews for Saturday. For the record, I’m tipping Oklahoma State to beat Texas Tech

In shocking news, another UGA player arrested

In shocking news, this weekend news emerged that yet another UGA player had been arrested – the seventh this off-season. This time it was reserve lineback Davin Bellamy for DUI and speeding in Athens. According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Bellamy was “clocked going 52 in a 35 mph zone heading east on College Station Road in Athens at 2:58 a.m when his 2001 Volvo was pulled over in the Kroger parking lot.” And when police smelt booze on his breath, he failed the sobriety test and police noted that he had “red, watery eyes“. He refused to take a blood-alcohol test to determine his BAC, which would have probably been the highlight of the arrest. Especially if he’d made as

Right Richt: Jonathan Taylor booted by Georgia

You know what? We’re not actually being sarcastic when we say “Right Richt”, because any guy who strangles or strikes his girlfriend or any female (as it seems sophomore D-Lineman Jonathan Taylor did in the late hours of Monday night) should be booted from a football team and if we’re honest, should not be allowed to transfer, unless it’s to jail. Well, after this second run-in with the law in one off-season, the 6-4, 340lb  Taylor was dismissed by the Georgia Bulldogs today. He was released from jail at 11.45am and was packing up his stuff by 1.30pm today. Mark Richt obviously wasn’t screwing around. The news release detailing his booting came at around 3pm, according to reports. There isn’t

SEC Preview 14: Gurley to New York, Georgia to Atlanta?

Aaron Murray’s graduation is going to leave a monstrous hole at QB for the Georgia Bulldogs. But all new QB Hutson Mason may have to do is hand the ball off to Heisman contender Todd Gurley, and the Dawgs – armed with a strong linebacking corps, could be in the mix for a trip to Atlanta as SEC East Champion LAST SEASON The biggest highlight of Georgia’s season was the secondary’s screw-up of a pretty easy knock-down/interception to gift Auburn a victory in a titanic battle. Of course, the decision of Lee Corso to pick LSU instead of UGA in Athens ‘led’ the Dawgs to victory in one of the games of the season, and Georgia beat Florida and South

SEC Media Days: Our Quick Coaches’ Press Conference Awards

Now the SEC Media Days are in the book, we’re giving 14 awards to our head coaches’ press conferences. Our award for “Most God-Like” is easy, though. It’s to Commissioner Mike Slive, because he’s God, Ali and The President and you aren’t. So without further ado: STRANGEST PRESS CONFERENCE: Les Miles (LSU) – I mean, who in the hell goes on vacation in Austin, talks about the weather a lot, then declines to mention anything about the strangest thing that happened to him in all of 2013 – the fact that he let his team vote on whether to keep a running back who punched somebody, instead of simply booting him? Or was this just Les being Les?  MOST MALCOLM GLADWELL-LIKE

Mark Richt comes out combative over Georgia drug rules

Mark Richt is used to criticism as head coach of the University of Georgia. Every year people place him on the hot-seat for either not beating South Carolina, or not beating Auburn, or losing a game they should win, or not beating a team by enough, and 2015 won’t be any different – although after beating Clemson and LSU, maybe the seat’s a LITTLE cooler. Richt’s also had his fair share of criticism about Georgia’s drug policy, which has seen the school suspend or boot a number of players over his time between the hedges. However, at the SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL, he was unrepentant. He said: “We don’t want our guys to do drugs, okay? I don’t

Georgia, Notre Dame agree home-and-home

In a refreshing change from the ‘Big Home Game In A NFL Dome/Ireland/England/France (you wait! It’s coming!)’, Georgia and Notre Dame have agreed one of the biggest home-and-homes in their history. The matches will be played at Notre Dame on September 9th, 2017 and in Athens on September 21st, 2019. “This series will generate an overwhelming level of excitement for our student-athletes and supporters,” said Georgia AD Greg McGarity. “We have a tremendous amount of respect for Notre Dame and look forward to the start of this memorable experience.” The two teams have met only once before — in the 1981 Sugar Bowl–a 17-10 Georgia victory that capped an undefeated, untied season and secured a consensus national championship. “Playing Notre

Two UGA players appear in court; Will not face suspension

Georgia linebacker James DeLoach and freshman defensive end Jonathan Taylor will not face suspensions from Mark Richt after being arrested for cashing checks illegally. The two players were told that they would face “significant internal discipline” but no suspensions, according to a number of reports. They were accepted into a pre-trial intervention program. The other two players – safety Tray Matthews and WR Uriah LeMay – appeared alongside DeLoach and Taylor. Matthews left the team earlier this week and LeMay has also left UGA. Both players intend to transfer.

South Carolina beats Georgia, Alabama to 4-star DE

If Mark Richt didn’t have to face some bad news when he dismissed safety Tray Matthews from the team, it got a little worse for him when four-star Georgia-based recruit Arden Key decided he would play at South Carolina instead of Athens. Key, a weak-side defensive end, was also offered by Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oregon, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Penn State and Stanford among the 33 schools who offered, according to 24-7Sports.com. He had committed to South Carolina in June 2013, and then de-committed in September, before re-committing to Columbia in June 2014. Key is at Hapeville Charter HS in Atlanta, GA. He’s rated as the 14th-best overall player in Georgia, and the

Defenses plague SEC challengers’ hopes – ESPN

We all know that Alabama is the SEC’s No.1 challenger for College Football’s first play-off. But according to an ESPN Insider article, there’s some major problems on the radar for other SEC teams hoping to get in the play-offs. — For Georgia, it’s a crappy secondary. “The inconsistent secondary is still the most prominent weakness for this club“, the report says.  “Linebacker Leonard Floyd will offset some of this with his incredible pass-rushing skills, but it is still looking as though this area of the Georgia defense is going to be every bit the coverage sieve it was last season.” The departures of Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins aren’t going help matters. And to think this was a place where Champ
