Great hire: Tennessee hires Pruitt to be new head coach

It came at the cost of one athletic director and a lot of red faces in Knoxville. A lot of Volunteers fans were the butt of jokes about the social media. And then Tennessee hired a former head coach as an AD, and within a few days, the school had installed a new coach from hated rival Alabama – defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. While details on Pruitt’s contract are not known, Pruitt was hired over Georgia defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. Previewing The Iron Bowl and every other #RivalryWeek game in the SEC

Because it gives me a chance to ignore the extended family and watch football for three days, I love Rivalry Weekend. It starts with the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night, and then moves through like a hurricane until the regular season (sniff! Sniff!) winds up at the end of Saturday. Starting Georgia LB arrested

Stop if you’ve heard this before: A starting Georgia player was arrested on Thursday night. This time it was Natrez Patrick, who is tied for third on the team in tackles, who was arrested on misdemeanour marijuana-related charges (meaning he had less than an ounce on him when Athens PD arrested him). It wasn’t the first time Patrick had been arrested. He’d also been arrested with former Dawg Chauncey Rivers in 2015, ESPN pointed out. In the Mark Richt days, this would have spelt the end of Patrick’s career with the Bulldogs, although we think that Kirby Smart’s going to go for the Nick Saban approach of second/third charges. The race for the bottom of the SEC was a really difficult race, made a lot harder to work out after the frankly illogical Mississippi State victory over Texas A&M, a win that should have been celebrated by the fanbase violently clanging bells on the field.
