OK, so it’s about that time when we try and work out what in the hell’s going on. With the four-teams-getting-selected-to-the-play-off-thing, it was pretty easy. Generally, the two teams in the SEC Championship got in, and the rest was the other guys. But now, it’s 4 conference winners (SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12) + Notre Dame (on a good season) + The top non-4 conference team. That means that it’s a bun-fight of epic proportions for the other three spots. Georgia’s off to its second rough road game in three games, this time rolling into Oxford, where expectancy’s back to being sky-high after the Rebs smashed Arkansas on the road. Had they lost that, Lane Kiffin might be facing the hurricane of rage — as well as an almost-certain miss from a play-off spot. It’s gonna be fun in Oxford. SEC Rankings: Texas A&M, LSU rising hard

As we thought would happen, we know the best team in the SEC: And it’s not Texas. Despite what the garbage-throwing, cowboy-hat-but-never-seen-a-cow-except-Bevo crowd might have thought, it would always going to be tough against this Georgia front, who ate Quin Ewers and Arch Manning alive. It made us think: Is the second-best team in the SEC not actually Texas, but one of their biggest rivals? Anyhoo…. Georgia (6-1): Utterly dominant at Texas (defensively), but on the offensive side, Travis Etienne bailed out Carson Beck, who was simply awful in Austin. And that balance will be just fine. Texas is on top, but Vandy continues to rise

1. Texas (6-0): The Texas – Oklahoma game was ESPN’s showpiece game this week, and it wasn’t close. Texas wasn’t good in the first half of the game, but they got better as the time went on and eviscerated a hapless Sooners team. As much fun as I’ve made of them, this team is great all over the park. The big test will next week against some team called Georgia. 2. Week 5 Rankings: Alabama’s back at No.1 in the SEC

At the end of the season, we’ll be talking about great games. If the Alabama v Georgia game isn’t in your Top 2, you’re probably wrong. It’s award season, so we want to throw around some awards ourselves, before those Heisman people get in our way and make us look bad. So here we go. Like any good divorces, it finished because of money. CBS had the media deal of a lifetime, only spending $825 million to the SEC on a 15-year contract, giving the schools $55 million per year each and itself the primary rights to each weekend. They refused to move on the ‘Best Contract On Earth’, and when ESPN threw in a $3 billion, 10-year offer for the conference, the SEC jumped at it. Mike Bobo is South Carolina’s new OC

Mike Bobo is returning to the SEC. The former Georgia OC has been hired by South Carolina to be the team’s new offensive mastermind under Will Muschamp after he left Colorado State. His job won’t be easy – He’ll be charged with improving one of the country’s worst offenses, which averaged 121st in yards per play in the country. He will replace Bryan McClendon as OC. Bobo started with a trio of winning seasons with Colorado State before 2-6 and 3-5 seasons in 2018 and 2019. He was sidelined in 2018 with peripheral neuropathy after he experienced numbness in his feet. Coaching-wise, he should be an ideal fit for South Carolina. After being in the transfer portal, we’re baaaack!!!

Sorry for the radio silence. We weren’t renaming ourselves. Or firing people – because there’s one of us, and that’s me. It’s because I requested a transfer. Put myself in the transfer portal. And the wife and I have moved to the hot cooker of football – Texas. We’re in Houston, where the oil money flows like the water in the Bayou and the mosquitos are manic.
