The most interesting SEC picks in the 2023 NFL Draft

For the SEVENTEEN consecutive year the SEC has given the NFL the most picks in the Draft — and they aren’t all going to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have drafted most of Georgia’s 2022 Natty-winning defense (so it seems), and this year they got Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith and a 4th round steal in Kelee Ringo. Georgia and Alabama sent 10 players each to the Draft. Alabama — 10 Georgia — 10 Florida — 6 LSU — 6 Tennessee — 5 Auburn — 5 South Carolina — 5 Ole Miss — 4 Kentucky — 3 Texas A&M — 3 Arkansas — 2 Mississippi State — 2 Missouri — 1 Vandy was the only SEC school not get a player

NFL Draft Day 1: Go to Georgia and Alabama, make money.

“If you want to go and make a crap ton of money in the NFL, come to our school.” That’s been the pitch of Nick Saban and Kirby Smart to high schoolers since the dawn of time, and once again, it’s worked. Alabama had No.1 in Bryce Young (Panthers), No.3 in Will Anderson (Texans) and No.12 in Jahmyr Gibbs (Lions), while Georgia’s defense from the 2022 title run continued to roll, with No.9 DT Jalen Carter (Eagles), No.14 OT Broderick Jones (Steelers) and No.30 DE Nolan Smith (Eagles). The SEC surprisingly didn’t lead the amount of first round talent going on stage this year, with the B1G sending 10 players into Roger Goodell’s arms. The Big 12 had 6, the

Ranking the Coaches on The SEC Hot Seat

This year was a weird year in the SEC, because only one coach was hired in the offseason, and that was the utterly polarizing, utterly dislikable Hugh Freeze by Auburn. We mourned the loss of Mike Leach, but almost immediately DC Zach Arnett replaced him, and then got the permanent job. So who’s job is under pressure in the SEC. We go from 1-12. You can predicted No.12 pretty easily. But if you didn’t, it’s Kirby Smart. Sam Pittman (Arkansas): The whole “Yessirrrrr!” thing has suddenly gotten old. The pass defense was one of the worst that Fayetteville has ever seen, and the Razorbacks went backwards from a 9-4 season to a 7-6 season, with a 3-5 SEC record. This

Alabama in hunt for OC as O’Brien leaves

Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is returning to the NFL after two years at Alabama, various sources have told ESPN. With that, Alabama is now – again – looking for an offensive coordinator, to go with the defensive coordinator’s job it is looking for now Pete Golding has moved to Ole Miss to work under Lane Kiffin. The list for a team like Alabama, who has the pedigree and the unlimited resources to get who they want in college football is seemingly endless. Here are the Top 10 people Nick Saban should speak to: Joe Brady (QB coach, Buffalo Bills): After his incredible year at LSU, Brady came down with a thump at the Carolina Panthers, where his OC job

Settling the whole Georgia 2022 v LSU 2019 debate

Since Georgia won the 2022 National Championship and became the first back-to-back Natty winners since 2011-2 Alabama, people are asking: Would this 2019 Georgia team beat the ‘unstoppable’ LSU team of 2019?   OFFENSES QUARTERBACK JOE BURROW V STETSON BENNETT Burrow’s stats (2019): 402-507 (76.3 completion percentage), 5671 yards, 60 TDs, 6 INTs. 361 yards rushing, 5 TDs. Heisman Trophy. 1 SEC Championship. 1 National Championship. Bennett’s stats (2022): 310-455 (68.1 completion percentage), 4127 yards, 27 TDs, 7 INTs. Rushing: 250 yards, 10 TDs. Invited to NYC for Heisman Trophy. 1 SEC Championship. 1 National Championship. Burrow’s numbers in 2019 were staggering (He broke the record for total yards in a season and touchdowns in a season that year). The

SEC Championship Game: Will there actually be an upset in Atlanta?

The SEC has had quite the week. If it wasn’t for Hugh Freeze returning to head coaching in the SEC like a cockroach, it was College Football expansion. Oh, and there were darker stories around the University of Florida, where back-up QB Jalen Kitna was arrested and jailed on child pornography charges. Well on Saturday, it’s time for business: The SEC Championship Game between No.1 Georgia (-17.5 O/U 52.5) and No.14 LSU.  On the face of it, this should be an absolute cakewalk for the Bulldogs. LSU has just been housed by Texas A&M, who ran roughshod on the Tigers, who actually had the ‘Fightin’ taken away from them after such a shitty performance against a team that’s missing a

College Football Play-Off firms up future plans

After years of argument, we finally know what’s going on. College Football will have its 12-team play-off, starting in the 2024 season. This gives us one more year of arguing and raging, before we argue and rage about 50 more teams that should have made the 12. Anyhoo, the six highest-ranked conference champions in the 10 college football conferences will earn a spot, as well as six at-large bids. This means that it’s guaranteed that a Group-Of-Give team (or two, which could happen if the Sun Belt continues its upwards trajectory and the AAC continues to vastly improve) gets in, which is pleasing. SO WHAT HAPPENS ABOUT THE GAMES? The Rose, Cotton, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta and Peach Bowls will host

Rivalry Week: SEC game predictions (plus the other one!)

Before we talk about SEC rivalries, let’s think about the one that’s not going to be played this week: Virginia and Virginia Tech. It’s not because of COVID-19. It’s not because of food poisoning through both camps that means both teams can’t field players. It’s because a nasty piece of work shot three of his former teammates dead and the team can’t do anything but mourn. It doesn’t make me want to give thoughts and prayers, it makes me want to give thoughts and get ****ing angry. Less importantly that my previous paragraph, it’s Rivalry Week in College Football – but in particular, the SEC. There’s battles for Irons, Palmettos, Eggs, jorts and even ****ing Commonwealths. It’s nasty, it’s angry,

Week 11 Review: Bad week for Kentucky, another one for Texas A&M

The news that Texas A&M had a shitty weekend is hardly surprising. Jimbo Fisher’s side is on one of the worst slide’s in his career, and certainly in the Aggies’ small SEC history. It’s so bad that you wouldn’t shocked if there’s the sort of field invasion that there was in 2021 when the Aggies turned over Alabama…even though the competition is UMass. This week it was a fired-up Auburn, who filled Jordan-Hare in the best atmosphere of the week despite having one of the worst SEC records of the lot. But the big surprise to us was the shocking performance produced by Kentucky, who lost at home to Vanderbilt. I thought Kentucky was meant to be ranked and have
