Arch Manning’s decision to go to Texas was ‘Austin Weird’

There’s a horrible expression in Austin that goes “Keep Austin Weird”. In the 70s, it worked. Austin was a practical cow-town, where the University was about the biggest thing there, and everything else was LSD and horrible music. Now – thanks to the influx of half of California and a business-friendly environment (read: No taxes on businesses! And we’re happy to let you screw up the environment while you’re at it!), Austin is one of – if not THE – fastest-growing (and trendiest) cities in America. Now, ‘Keep Austin weird’ is basically an absolute joke. d But despite the overload of ‘Western Liberals’ (their words, certainly not mine), the Texas Longhorns (and their plight) is still one of the biggest

The final week….Is Rivalry Week: Week 13 SEC Predictions

Happy Thanksgiving. Finally, we’ll all be able to see each other again. We’ll crack jokes, maybe laugh a little, and try and tell ourselves that we like sweet potato pie and can definitely have two helping of Momma’s Yams. During those family reunions, cousins of different in-state college dispositions will meet up, drink far too much bourbon, and argue like children. There will be discussions of tree-poisoning, and dog-pissing. But everywhere – from internet to in-your-face- will become a cesspool of bitter collegiate football division. Those arguments will develop into fist-fights, probable divorces and definitely decisions never to go to Uncle Joe’s. Ever. Again. And elsewhere, Texas and Texas A&M – the bastions of bitching – will sit each other

Will ESPN change the Georgia vs Arkansas game time? No.

A friend of mine texted me today. He was FUMING. “Can you believe that they’ve put Georgia vs Arkansas at frickin’ 11am?’ We live in the Houston area, so 11am kick-offs aren’t the greatest time for our wake-ups or our livers, but we stride on. So I looked and behold: No.2 Georgia will play No.8 Arkansas under the bright sunlight, instead of what the fans of the SEC probably wanted more – a night game, with Sanford Stadium going off the chain. “They should have waited until after the Texas A&M – Arkansas game to make that call,” he said. Instead, ESPN made the call on September 20th. What was a little galling for Georgia fans – and the rest

SEC Preview: Ole Miss is all gas

If you love old school Big 12 or Pac-12 football, where they put up a kiddy amount of points and no-one plays any defense, then Ole Miss was your favorite team last year. Averaging 39.2 points per game and 555 yards per game, the Rebels worried every defense in the country. And boy (if you love your offense) was it fun. But Ole Miss was lousy at defense. They were worst in the SEC in giving up points, rushing yards allowed, second-last in passing yards allowed, and total yards. Nationally, the best they had defensive (points allowed), ranked…..117th. So boy (if you love your defense) it was miserable. So in an effort to not make any depressed, we’re not going

Tennessee hires Josh Heupel as new head coach. What’s next?

Tennessee has hired former UCF head coach Josh Heupel as its new head coach. Danny White – who is now Tennessee’s AD – was formerly Heupel’s boss at UCF. He’ll be paid $4 million-a-year on a 6-year deal. He said on his press conference: “I believe in a very, very bright future for Tennessee football. I believe that there’s a minor speed bump that we’re going through, but the kids that are in our program right now and the kids that are being recruited are going to have a chance to play and chase championships.” First of all, we know that Tennessee fans would have loved a ‘bigger name hire’, but what self-respecting head coach would want to walk into
