How will the SEC load up the 2015 NFL Draft?

The NFL Draft is coming, and with it, more SEC glory. We may not have Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota or even Leonard Williams to boast about, but we do have Dante Fowler Jr (Florida), Amari Cooper (Alabama), Todd Gurley (Georgia) and Shane Ray (Missouri). WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR? Yes, we get that our No.1 Draft pick from last year – South Carolina monster Jadeveon Clowney hasn’t panned out as we had hoped for – but that was a mixture of Houston’s turf and a hell of a lot of bad luck. Texas A&M’s Heisman-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel spent more time in rehab than he did on the field for Cleveland. But former LSU wideout Odell Beckham Jr is God up

Geaux-ing, Geaux-ing, Gone: Why Saturday’s game for LSU is make or break

There is a smell around Tiger Stadium, and despite what Katy Perry says, it’s not corndogs and it’s certainly not bourbon. It feels – and smells – like a funeral. That shouldn’t be surprising, because Death Valley has prided itself on being the place where opposition teams’ – and their fans’ hopes go to die. Now, the fanbase- complete with a multi-million dollar new addition the stadium – are feeling the stench of the death upon them as a program, punch-drunk by successive monster losses, falls to its knees like a heavyweight boxer lit up by consecutive Mike Tyson punches. At the start of the season, people weren’t as angry at Les Miles, because they came back from the dead

LSU Spring Game Preview: The unset jigsaw

The LSU Spring Game is on Saturday, but it seems like a late April Fool’s piece without the jigsaw. Anyway, here’s some Spring Game thoughts: WHO CAN FILL THE QUARTERBACK HOLE? Let’s get this straight: Anthony Jennings started his career with LSU in pretty impressive fashion, leading the Tigers to a breathtaking last-ditch win over Arkansas last year, before not particularly impressing anybody in the Tigers 21-14 Outback Bowl win. He hasn’t had a game where he’s passed over 100 yards, and he’s hasn’t actually excited anyone either. It’ll be interesting to see how Jennings, freshmen Brandon Harris and Hayden Rettig play in the Spring Game – Les Miles is going to give all of them chances to impress (you

Manziel, McCarron lead list of offensive invites to NFL Combine

The quarterbacking foursome of the Four Ms lead SEC names invited to the NFL Combine. Texas A&M’s Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, Alabama’s AJ McCarron, Georgia’s Aaron Murray and LSU’s Zach Mettenberger have all been invited to the Combine, which starts on February 19th. Connor Shaw at South Carolina has also been invited. While Manziel, McCarron and Shaw will probably make the trip, it’s not certain if Murray and Mettenberger will have recovered enough from injuries they sustained at the end of the year to partake – which may drop their draft status, despite both players’ electric arms (Mettenberger’s particularly). Auburn’s Tre Mason will be the one to watch from the running backs, while LSU has three running backs invited (Jeremy

After An Incredible Run, Let’s Applaud Auburn And The SEC

Despite the (Twitter) jokes we may have made in Auburn’s direction after ending the SEC’s BCS National Championship run, really we’re going to quote Jack Buck, when we say: “Excuse us while we stand up applaud”. Auburn was a 10.5 point underdog with Vegas. No-one – apart from those bleeding blue and orange (and some members of the media) who believed in Destiny – really believed that the Tigers would have put up 31 points on Florida State, led the ‘Noles by double digits almost all the way through the game, and exhausted their giant, great defensive lines. But they did. Auburn was a team that wasn’t even meant to succeed this season – let alone this well. Sure, we

So who’s the best QB in the SEC?

As y’all know by this website, we spend our time being very, very nice about the SEC. But September rolls closer, we’re going to say a few things that you probably won’t like and certainly won’t agree with. But, as my uncle Hank said to me: “Opinions are like mouthholes. Everyone’s got one” (He may have substituted the word ‘mouth’ for something else, but not on this family website!)”. Listen, No. 1’s pretty good. Then again, so are Nos. 2 and No. 3. We predict all three of them to make a splash around draft-time in 2014, if they can stay injured and out of trouble. 1. Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M) Listen, we all know about the off-season that Johnny

LSU RB Hill not going to jail or getting kicked off team

Jeremy Hill’s immediate future is not behind bars, it seems. The star LSU running back was given extra community service after admitting simple battery in a fight outside a bar in Baton Rouge earlier this year – despite violating the terms of a parole given to him as a high schooler. Jeremy Hill called a press conference, which he went to with Les Miles, his coach in tow. Miles had indefinitely suspended the player for the fight. In a statement at a press conference (thanks, Tigerbait.com), he said: “I would like to thank Coach Miles and this university for giving me another chance to play football. I would like to apologize to my teammates and the community.” Miles added that Hill

Should Les Miles Boot His Star LSU Running Back?

LSU starting running back Jeremy Hill has admitted to simple battering – along with a friend – for sucker-punching a 20-year old man outside Reggie’s bar in Tigerland, after video evidence emerged of his attack. He was sentenced to two years’ probation – although may still face jail time for a violation of probation for an earlier offence (details below), when he discusses his parole in late August. The video of the attack is here. It’s not pretty viewing.  Hill must attend anger management classes, has to stay away from social media, pay $375 in medical expenses to Connor Baldridge, and will be under a curfew – although will be ‘suspended’ for football-related activities.  He also must write a letter of apology
