Top Ten Florida Gators In History

To celebrate Gator Day with the Florida Gators Alumni Association (OK, this writer didn’t attend the University of Florida, but we thought it might be fun, anyhow), we’re putting out 10 of the most famous Florida Gators. Now, you might say that Aaron Hernandez is one of the most famous Florida Gators in history thanks to his murder trial, but we’re thinking ON the field (and maybe one off it), rather than OFF it. And by the way, Jeff Driskel’s not making the list. Sorry, Driskelians.   1. Tim Tebow (QB) Won a Heisman Trophy, two National Championships, two SEC Championships, and went super-iconic with his speech after the Gators lost to Ole Miss at home in 2008. Later that

Miami rats out Florida for recruiting violation, Gators win

The NCAA said today that Florida had been investigated for a recruiting violation involving former wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, but would not face sanctions. Although the NCAA did not mention Phillips, it did note that a ‘former Florida assistant coach’ visited a Florida prospect off-campus before the NCAA rules allowed for contact, adding that the Gators had suspended the assistant coach in question (Phillips resigned in June, incidentally), and that the “corrective actions and penalties self-imposed by the school were appropriate and assigned no additional penalties or measures.” The full statement from the NCAA is here. What is also interesting – and was noted in an Orlando Sentinel report, is that the NCAA’s investigation was prompted by the University

Sweet Home, Alabama: Post-Week 12 SEC Power Rankings

Well, Alabama’s now the best team in the SEC again after the Crimson Tide beat Mississippi State, while Georgia suffered a phyrric victory while pummelling Auburn – they lost Todd Gurley for the season with a torn ACL (and probably the rest of his career). Meanwhile, we’re proud to say Arkansas fans have their first win of the season after shutting out LSU, while Tennessee’s on a roll after dismantling a once-again-disappointing Kentucky team. Oh, and there that small game in The Swamp, too… Anyway, here are your post-Week 12 SEC Power Rankings. 1) Alabama Crimson Tide still aren’t much to look at offensively, but defensively, they are opportunistic, and can shut the life out of anybody. Even Dak Prescott,

Muschamp out at Florida: Who’s going to take over?

Will Muschamp has been fired as the head coach of Florida, the school announced on Sunday. After a terrible 2013, it was always going to be difficult for Will Muschamp in 2014. After getting blown out at home to Missouri, it looked as though Muschamp might be fired a few weeks ago. However, a shocking win over Georgia and a win over Vanderbilt seemed to buy the Gator boss sometime….until everything unravelled at home to South Carolina on Saturday, when the Gators lost 23-20 in overtime in a game they should have won. Although he will stay at The Swamp for the last two games of the season, Muschamp’s services will not be retained after that – although there will

Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates.” ESPN added: “Harris’ attorneys said Thursday that the accuser was “the sexual aggressor with not one, but two, young men last Sunday morning” and that the woman showed “no indication of any physical or mental trauma” after the alleged incident.“

Florida suspends QB Harris for alleged sexual assault

Florida has suspended QB Treon Harris after the player was accused of sexual assault on a female student early Sunday morning. Police will investigate the accusation. Treon Harris replaced Jeff Driskel to lead the Gators to a comeback win at Tennessee on Saturday. The University of Florida said: “The University of Florida Police Department is investigating the incident, and UFPD has brought in the Gainesville Police Department to assist with collection and analysis of forensic evidence.” The school added: “Due to legal and privacy requirements, there are limitations as to what the university can say publicly about a pending matter such as this. In these types of serious situations, Student Affairs initiates the Student Conduct Code process. Often, a student

14 Prayers SEC Fans Are Throwing Up Going Into Week 6

So, we were talking to The Lord, and we decided that SEC fans needed to talk to Him to at least give their team a half-assed chance of victory in Week 6. Unless you’re Georgia fans, and then it’s a half-assed chance of not screwing it all up absymally. So here we go. IN THE SEC EAST…. Georgia fans: “Please Lord, don’t let Todd Gurley get injured. Please….please….please….don’t let Todd Gurley get injured. 2014 SEC Preview: Can Florida rebound from a goddawful 2013?

Florida head coach Will Muschamp knows he’s on the hot seat. Everyone knows he’s on the hot seat. He’s one terrible season from getting his ass booted out of The Swamp, and we all know it. You can blame a lot of things for an awful 2013. You can blame the mound of injuries. His bad offensive co-ordinator. A difficult schedule. Or just simple blame Muschamp, as a lot of people have done.  Anyway, we look ahead to 2014, for what a lot of Gators fans hope will not be a repeat of 2013. If it is, then The Swamp will be less full of Gators than full of wide, open spaces…. LAST SEASON Before we start on last season’s

An Ode To Muschamp The Blunt

As nasty as [everybody] has been towards Florida coach Will Muschamp this off-season after the Gators’ dismal 4-8 season, we didn’t expect the kind of bluntness that he’d come out with at the SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL. He said: “It falls on my shoulders….There will be a lot of chatter about hot seat business. The way you combat that is to have a good football team, which we’re going to have.” He added that he never thought he would go from ‘hot seat’ to ‘boot seat’: “There was never any time in my mind that I didn’t think I would be retained,” he said. “(Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley) understood some of the circumstances we dealt with.” Florida
