WEEK 2 SEC Predictions: Can Texas beat Michigan?

When a National title pretender goes to last year’s National Championship winner — and it’s two of the biggest name’s in college football – everyone’s gonna be pretty excited. College Gameday AND Fox’s Preview Show are going to be at Texas v Michigan. The place is obviously sold-out. It’s a massive test of where both teams are. Elsewhere in the SEC, it’s going to be a fun game between ranked NC State and Tennessee,  No.16 Oklahoma State visiting Arkansas, and the first SEC Conference match-up between South Carolina and Kentucky. SEC Week 1 Round-up: Vanderbilt and Georgia impress, Florida does not, dross in the middle

The SEC was involved in four major match-ups with weekend, with Georgia playing Clemson, LSU playing Southern Cal (USC), Texas A&M at home to Notre Dame, and Florida hosting Miami. Oh, and Vanderbilt played the other game FBS game SEC schools were involved in, battling out with Virginia Tech. It was hard not to be impressed with Georgia’s kerb-stomping of Clemson. But LSU losing a neutral site game to USC was OK. We’re a lot happier with the state of the Tigers than we are with Texas A&M’s offense loss to higher-ranked Notre Dame or almost everything that was the Florida Gators. But Vanderbilt? Jeez. It’s award season, so we want to throw around some awards ourselves, before those Heisman people get in our way and make us look bad. So here we go. Like any good divorces, it finished because of money. CBS had the media deal of a lifetime, only spending $825 million to the SEC on a 15-year contract, giving the schools $55 million per year each and itself the primary rights to each weekend. They refused to move on the ‘Best Contract On Earth’, and when ESPN threw in a $3 billion, 10-year offer for the conference, the SEC jumped at it. So it’s Thanksgiving. Week 8 SEC Preview and Predictions (and some others too!)

It’s a relatively quiet week in the SEC, with only 4 SEC match-ups and out-of-conference v SEC game. Headlining it is Alabama v Tennessee, with South Carolina’s trip to Missouri, Ole Miss’ trip to Auburn, and a bottom-feeder-for-the-SEC-West clash between Mississippi State and Arkansas (which should be stuck on on the Pac-12 Network, let alone the SEC Network) coming along behind. Oh, and LSU hosts Army, which would have been a cool match-up, erm, last year. So as a special treat, we’re doing a brief  preview of three non-conference match-ups between ranked teams, including Penn State’s trip to Ohio State, Duke v Florida State, and Utah v USC – a match-up that looked a lot spicier before the season started.

Week 2 Rankings: Ole Miss rules, Georgia needs to play someone

Normally, if a team’s the No.1 team in the nation, then they would usually be No.1 on our SEC rankings. But aside from the fact that Georgia’s schedule is medicore-to-dreadful, they haven’t looked wonderful on offense, and aren’t clicking in enough gears to get the No.1 spot. So here are the rankings: Ole Miss (2-0): Beat Tulane 37-20 and looked increasingly comfortable as the game went on. Judkins is a weapon, and Jaxson Dart is looking increasingly comfortable within the offense. Look, there are still things to iron out (they were 1-13 on 3rd downs), but a ‘scrappy’ offense that wins is better than none at all. It’s Week 2 of the season tomorrow. The two words on everyone in college football’s mouth is: “Texas” and “Alabama”. Texas fans are apparently forking out $1,000 just to be there – even though Alabama’s widely expected to be comfortable. But that’s not the cool games in the SEC. THE WEEK ONE SEC RANKING LIST

  Without further ado (and without focus on the SEC’s 1-3 record against Power-5 teams this week) here we goooo……. Vanderbilt (2-0): BECAUSE THEY ARE 2-0 BABY! AND THE RECORD MATTERS!!  Tennessee (1-0): BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONLY SEC TEAM TO BEAT A POWER-5 TEAM EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF NON POWER-5 TEAMS AND MAYBE A COUPLE OF FCS TEAMS WOULD HAVE BEATEN THAT POWER-5 TEAM!! Oh, and Joe Milton’s 21-30, 201 yard, 2 TD effort (where he shone out at times), was excellent.  Kentucky (1-0): Beat a team that’s expected to be a title contender in the MAC.
