Week 2 Rankings: Ole Miss rules, Georgia needs to play someone

Normally, if a team’s the No.1 team in the nation, then they would usually be No.1 on our SEC rankings. But aside from the fact that Georgia’s schedule is medicore-to-dreadful, they haven’t looked wonderful on offense, and aren’t clicking in enough gears to get the No.1 spot. So here are the rankings: Ole Miss (2-0): Beat Tulane 37-20 and looked increasingly comfortable as the game went on. Judkins is a weapon, and Jaxson Dart is looking increasingly comfortable within the offense. Look, there are still things to iron out (they were 1-13 on 3rd downs), but a ‘scrappy’ offense that wins is better than none at all. Tennessee (2-0): Tennessee’s offense sputtered against Austin Peay, but they still ran out in

Week 2 Betting Preview: Get excited about Texas-Alabama, A&M v Miami, and Ole Miss v Tulane

It’s Week 2 of the season tomorrow. The two words on everyone in college football’s mouth is: “Texas” and “Alabama”. Texas fans are apparently forking out $1,000 just to be there – even though Alabama’s widely expected to be comfortable. But that’s not the cool games in the SEC. Ole Miss goes to Tulane in a battle of ‘First to 100’. Texas A&M goes to Miami in the battle of ‘Guess Which School’s Back After Winning This One’. Auburn go up the West Coast to Cal. Mississippi State hosts the high-octane offense of Arizona. And there’s FBS intrigue in the battle of the rich private schools as Vanderbilt goes across state lines to face Wake Forest. However, there are duds. We’re trying

SEC Preview: Is Alabama really an underdog?

This is going to sound incredibly silly, but Alabama may well go into this season as an underdog. Not in many games, but in the National Championship discussion. For years, there isn’t an Alabama player that’s been especially memorable. The rock stars  – like Will Anderson Jr or Bryce Young are gone. Jahmyr Gibbs is gone. Henry To’oto’o is gone.  That’s a hell of a lot of talent. The reason for this is simple: Alabama was meant to be everything when Young and Gibbs were anchoring the offense and Anderson, Demarco Hellams, Brian Branch and To’oto’o were anchoring the defense. Instead they lost the 2021 National Championship Game and didn’t even get to the 2022 Play-Off, despite only losing to LSU

SEC Preview: Will Petrino’s arrival propel Texas A&M?

2022 and 2023 were meant to be banner years for Texas A&M. Buoyed by a NIL fund worth hundreds of millions, the Aggies recruited its best class in decades. Then, they fell apart. Half of the that group transferred. A&M lost to Appalachian State and played a lot of football, but should have beaten Alabama and DID beat LSU. Jimbo Fisher exercised some excellent restraint, realizing that things weren’t working with him at the offensive reigns, so he brought in everyone’s favorite motorcyle-driving crazy person, Bobby Petrino. WHO’S IN? The Aggies bring in QB Jaylen Henderson from Fresno State. He’ll be the back-up-of-the-back-up (Max Johnson is still around). He had a season-ending thumb injury in October which kept him out

The SEC is going to vote for 8 games….sigh

The Southeastern Conference is going to vote for an eight game schedule (including one permanent opponent), and the fans are going to be completely screwed. BUT IT’S NOT ABOUT THE FANS, THE COACHES GENERALLY DON’T CARE There’s Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, who has openly campaigned for an 8-game schedule, has called it ‘unfair’ , we think simply because the Wildcats have Louisville in the Commonwealth Cup, and therefore it makes their schedule even more difficult. Nick Saban, who was a long-time advocate of nine games, has pushed the idea of an all Power-5, better non-conference schedule instead. In fact, his lack of support for something that would be better for his fanbase led to the Tuscaloosa News – Alabama’s version of

I’m sorry, Alabama and Georgia’s hires underwhelmed us

This cycle, Alabama and Georgia were once again dominant in the recruiting game. Nick Saban was told that Alabama’s time was done, and Kirby Smart’s swear-fest at the National Championship didn’t turn out to be true, but **** that, it was a blast. And both teams are going to have players in the first round in the NFL. But this offseason, it’s hard to be thrilled by their coordinator hires. ALABAMA WHO LEFT? DC Pete Golding (to Ole Miss as DC) and OC Bill O’Brien (New England Patriots OC) WHO ARRIVED: Kevin Steele (new DC), and Tommy Rees (OC) There was no great love for Golding when he was in Tuscaloosa. His detractors were many, and the team’s jacked-up defense

Alabama in hunt for OC as O’Brien leaves

Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is returning to the NFL after two years at Alabama, various sources have told ESPN. With that, Alabama is now – again – looking for an offensive coordinator, to go with the defensive coordinator’s job it is looking for now Pete Golding has moved to Ole Miss to work under Lane Kiffin. The list for a team like Alabama, who has the pedigree and the unlimited resources to get who they want in college football is seemingly endless. Here are the Top 10 people Nick Saban should speak to: Joe Brady (QB coach, Buffalo Bills): After his incredible year at LSU, Brady came down with a thump at the Carolina Panthers, where his OC job

Week 11 Review: Bad week for Kentucky, another one for Texas A&M

The news that Texas A&M had a shitty weekend is hardly surprising. Jimbo Fisher’s side is on one of the worst slide’s in his career, and certainly in the Aggies’ small SEC history. It’s so bad that you wouldn’t shocked if there’s the sort of field invasion that there was in 2021 when the Aggies turned over Alabama…even though the competition is UMass. This week it was a fired-up Auburn, who filled Jordan-Hare in the best atmosphere of the week despite having one of the worst SEC records of the lot. But the big surprise to us was the shocking performance produced by Kentucky, who lost at home to Vanderbilt. I thought Kentucky was meant to be ranked and have

SEC: Georgia leads the Red Wave

Once again, Georgia found itself in the bright lights of the Nation, and once again, Georgia delivered. No, we’re not talking about the mid-terms, where adverts for candidates became turn-on-silent-and-maybe-go-grab-a-beer-TV for a majority of college football games this season (ESPN+ was the only one not to show any), we’re talking about the absolute savages who dominated Tennessee on Saturday. Georgia shocked the Vols by punching them in the mouth repeatedly, behind a ravenous 90-something crowd that was so ‘loud that people definitely came out hoarse, but with the added flavor of tinnitus. The 26-13 scoreline doesn’t remotely show the gulf between both sides – and Tennessee is still the second-best team in the SEC. Elsewhere – and this was the
