Alabama’s Derrick Henry fractures leg in practice

The University of Alabama has confirmed that freshman running  back Derrick Henry – who was expected to take the load behind T.J. Yeldon in the 2013 season – has fractured his leg in practice, and it out for the remainder of spring practice. We would be pretty surprised if he came back for the first game of the fall, too. Alabama coach Nick Saban said this: “Derrick Henry suffered a fractured fibula in Saturday’s scrimmage and had successful surgery this morning with Dr. Lyle Cain,” he said. “With the support of our medical staff and the hard work and dedication Derrick has shown since he arrived, we are confident that he will make a full recovery for the start of

‘Bama Four’ Booted by Saban

The University of Alabama has announced that the four freshmen that were arrested a few weeks ago have been dismissed from the program. Linebackers  DJ Pettaway and Tyler Hayes were both charged with second degree robbery, and Brent Calloway, an H-Back, were charged with credit card fraud. Eddie Williams – a safety – was charged with both crimes. And things will look to get worse for Williams, who was also charged on Sunday with carrying  a gun without a license. According to a report on ESPN’s website, Deborah Lane, associate vice president for university relations said: “UA’s judicial review has been completed. The four students involved in the robberies on campus are no longer enrolled in UA.” Coach Nick Saban said: “Based

One of the ‘Alabama accused’ tweets his defense

Brent Calloway, one of the ‘Alabama Accused’, has defended himself on Twitter. The linebacker, charged of credit card fraud by Alabama police, tweeted his defense to Cardinals catcher Kyle Lamb:  “First it wasn’t a credit card and 2 I wasn’t even awake during the robbery you don’t kno what happened so dont try me dude”. In essence, Calloway is denying that he and his friends used a credit card (in fact, it probably wasn’t a credit card but an Alabama student card that students put money on and then they can insert it into a candy machine and get snacks from it) and has added that he wasn’t awake when the robbery happened. Interestingly enough, Calloway isn’t being charged –

Four Alabama players arrested, suspended

Four Alabama Crimson Tide freshman football players have been arrested on robbery and credit card fraud charges. All four players have been indefinitely suspended, said Alabama coach Nick Saban. Saban told a press conference: “The young men charged are indefinitely suspended as we continue to gather information and talk to the appropriate people.” According to The Tuscaloosa News, Pettaway, Hayes and Williams assaulted a student

Why Nick Saban Won’t Leave Alabama

There’s been a ton of speculation that Nick Saban, the all-mighty coach at Alabama, will leave the school to take over the Cleveland Browns. The argument is basically this: Saban is one of the best football coaches of the modern era. He’s won titles at LSU (x1), and Alabama (x2), and has had unparalleled success in the SEC, the country’s hardest conference. He’s rectified two massive programs, and brought them to the forefront of people’s imagination again after years in the styx (especially LSU). He’s one of the best recruiters in the land, and he can get almost any player from anywhere if he wants. (although not Jadeveon Clowney, who opted for one of the nation’s OTHER great recruiters, Steve Spurrier,

Rammer Jammer Slammered: SEC Rankings

Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, What in the **** happened, Alabama? Tuscaloosa was full of sad faces as Texas A&M knocked off Alabama in the Game Of The Season (sorry, LSU game from last week!). But there were happy faces in Ole Miss (from Vandy fans, because their victory in Oxford ensured that they were bowl eligible for the second straight time – the first time this has happened in program history), Auburn (because Alabama lost, and from visiting Georgia fans because they won handily at Jordan-Hare), and other places in the SEC (because Alabama lost). The only people super-furious, we should think, were Mike Slive and the SEC, because a) The SEC Championship Game is not going to be the

Dawgs bark, Tide rolls, Gators chomped, Everyone prays: SEC Rankings (Week 9)

It was a horrible week in the SEC. After Ole Miss tries to recover from the car crash that killed THREE of its students in a car crash, news comes out this weekend that brother and sister both die in a car crash. RIP, Sarah and James Wheat. Prayers are with the Wheat family. Second, Marcus Lattimore gets a horror show of an injury in South Carolina’s game against Tennessee. You mean, the kid needs MORE HARDSHIP, God? The injury is gruesome. If you really want to see, it, click here (for the record, we haven’t even watched it again). From a football perspective, this deprives South Carolina of a much-needed weapon. From a human perspective, this may well deprive the

SEC Preseason Preview: Can Alabama reload and re-win?

Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, Ready to reload Alabama? It’s no secret that 2011-2012 National Champions Alabama lost a load of talent to the NFL, but this is Nick Saban. He’s recruiting brilliantly (again), he’s one of the best coaches in the game (name us someone better), and Alabama ought to be OK for the 2012-3 season – which is why they are again one of the favorites to go to the National Title game. LAST SEASON Y’all know what happened last season. Alabama won the National Championship, hammering LSU 21-0. Should they have actually been in the National Championship Game? Well, the argument is is that the Crimson Tide didn’t even get to their Conference Championship Game. The other argument

SEC Preseason Preview: Can LSU overcome the loss of Tyrann Mathieu?

Tyrann Mathieu really screwed up this time. In fact, he screwed up so much that he’s now in rehab, and he’s off the LSU team. Last year he was suspended for drug use, while in the off-season he entertained everybody by wanting to change his ‘Honey Badger’ nickname for ‘King’. Wow, there’s nothing like a bit of humility, is there? We can only hope that a reformed, drug-free Tyrann Mathieu is back in FBS Football and his bravado is pitch only. But will Mathieu’s expulsion from the team cost the LSU Tigers a shot at the National Championship? LAST SEASON As you all know, LSU was not only shut out of the National Championship by Alabama, but they were embarrassed,

Three SEC teams in ESPN’s Top 10 running games

ESPN has picked three SEC teams in their Top 10 running games in the country for 2012. Alabama (#2), LSU (#5) and South Carolina (#9) were the teams – which is hardly surprising that Alabama boast Eddie Lacy, LSU has Spencer Ware and Michael Ford, and South Carolina has perhaps the best of the lot – if he remains healthy – in Marcus Lattimore. The biggest factor, according to the website, is the fact that Alabama and LSU both return four starting offensive linesmen, while South Carolina brings back just two. The order is: 1) Southern California 2) Alabama 3) Oregon 4) Texas 5) LSU  6) Wisconsin 7) Georgia Tech 8) Stanford 9) South Carolina 10) Nebraska
