Clowney leads SEC Defensive NFL Combine invitees

Jadeveon Clowney leads the list of SEC defensive linesmen going to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, starting February 19th. Here’s the list of defensive players: Defensive linemen Ego Ferguson (LSU), Dominique Easley (Florida), Kony Ealy (Mizzou), Ed Stinson (Alabama) and Dee Ford are the five SEC names that jump out at you. South Carolina comes in with solid National Signing Day haul

With Jadeveon Clowney and three other juniors going to the pros – as well as talisman quarterback Connor Shaw- South Carolina needed to shore up their class with an excellent National Signing Day…..and did. A lot of the big signings were on the defensive side. Steve Spurrier picked up DE Dante Sawyer, LB Bryson Allen-Williams and defensive tackle Dexter Wideman – who had committed earlier to Florida State – and reports have said that they expect DE Jhaustin Thomas to make an impact, too. Jadeveon Clowney maintains he’ll return

South Carolina defensive end, ESPN star and dreadlocked giant Jadeveon Clowney has promised that he will return in 2013 after missing the Kentucky game through bruised ribs. Clowney’s decision not to play the Kentucky game really annoyed South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, who said that Clowney simply: “Didn’t want to play”. It soon became the biggest story of last week’s college football schedule…and maybe the biggest of the year. Gators rising- SEC Power Rankings Week 6

Georgia came through Knoxville ‘scathed’ but with an overtime victory. South Carolina survived a furious comeback from Kentucky. Auburn survived a furious comeback from Ole Miss. LSU blew an early lead against Mississippi State and then hit another gear and blew ’em out. Florida and Arkansas was a nasty game…and not in a good way. Alabama had no problems with Georgia State…apart from keeping the score down. AP Poll 1: Bama still No.1, Georgia out of Top 10

The AP Poll’s just come out, and there’s no surprises who is No.1: Alabama. The Crimson Tide are top of the polls after their win over Virginia Tech, however unconvincing it actually was. Georgia has plunged to 11 after its loss at Clemson, which in turn moved to No.4 in the nation. South Carolina stayed in 6th, Texas A&M’s 7th, LSU’s 9th, and Florida’s 12th.   Here’s the Top 25 for you: 1) Alabama (58) 2) Oregon – Apparently beating Nicholls State convincingly is better than beating Buffalo uncovincingly. 3) Ohio State (1) – See Oregon 4) Clemson (1) – Should be higher after beating Oregon. As usual, the SEC Media Days opened with a bang with Commissioner Mike Slive, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, Florida’s Will Muschamp, Missouri’s Gary Pinkel and Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze all on the podium to face a rabid media…….and ESPN’s College Football Live, which will be spending every waking hour in Hoover, Al. for the next three days. Clowney has $5m insurance policy

South Carolina defensive end and All-American Jadeveon Clowney has a $5 million insurance policy should he get injured in the 2013 season, it has been reported. The policy – which will be paid out via the NCAA should anything go awry next season – will be paid for by family members, and protect against future . The cost is $30,000. Reply to Charleston Post-Courier writer Daryl Slater’s report, Paul Myerberg of USA Today noted that the policy was the largest available to players. The insurance company offering the policy is HCC, based in Cincinnati. On South Carolina’s website, they said: “Student athletes can receive up to $5m in coverage, up from $4.4m in basketball and $3m in football.” The NCAA

You wrote an article about why Jadeveon Clowney should sit out the 2013 season, and you set yourself alight in the Twittersvere, the Facebookvere, and certainly, in the SEC. Sorry we’ve been out of touch…..we’ve been at the SEC Championship Game (did we mention that?), and running around. Anyway, since we’ve been gone a bit, we’d like to point out a few things: 1) We’re still on the fence about whether we’re rooting for Alabama, Notre Dame, or nobody at the National Championship Game. 2) Well done to Johnny Manziel for winning the Heisman. Great for Texas A&M, and great for SEC Football to have a Heisman winner (again). However, Collin Klein probably had a better body of work, but Manziel beat Alabama. Good news for Cocks: Marcus Lattimore has ligament damage, but no more

There was good news for South Carolina Gamecocks fans:Marcus Lattimore’s injury isn’t as bad as feared. A lot of South Carolina fans were fearing that the junior running back’s sickening injury in the Gamecocks’ victory over Tennessee on Saturday would mean an end to their player’s school – and NFL – career. As was Twitter, that suddenly abounded with rumors of fractured femurs and destroyed ligaments.
