The days after Armageddon: SEC Rankings (With apologies)

First Alabama – LSU happened. Then Obama happened. Sorry boys and gals, we haven’t been as up-to-date as we should be with our SEC rankings. Anyway, here they are… 1. Alabama – Survived LSU. You have to wonder what John Chavis was doing playing soft coverage though in that last drive. 2 = Georgia – Woke up from a 10-0 deficit against Ole Miss to hammer Ole Reb 37-10 in a performance that got stronger by the minute. We look forward to the SEC Championship Game, Dawgs. 2= LSU – A team very like Georgia who only woke up in the second half of the Alabama game. Atmosphere second-to-none in Death Valley, by the way. Good on you, LSU fans.

At last, the Tigers Roar (and so do the Tide and Gators!): Week 7 Rankings

Right, it’s been a mad week in College Football – so much so that we’re going to rank our Top 14 straight away. Without further ado, here’s where we are: 1) Alabama – Rolled to a 28-point lead over Missouri until the rains came. Then looked really scrappy, but the Tide dealt with the tests. And news just in: Eddie Lacy’s a beast. And so is that defensive line. 2) Florida – It wasn’t pretty against Vanderbilt, but it was effective. Jeff Driskell’s beginning to (whisper) remind people of (whisper) Tim Tebow. Oh, and that defense is as good as we thought they were. We’ll see how good the offensive line is against South Carolina. Two Death Valleys? SEC Week 7 Preview

If there’s a pot, Steve Spurrier will be there to stir it. This week, Steve Spurrier hammered Georgia (both with mouth and with team), and hammered Clemson (“My boys haven’t been to Death Valley before“, he opined on the radio). This week, he’s going to hell. Quite possibly to prepare him for the afterlife, Clemson fans might say. Georgia looking for life after Crowell – and vice versa

After dismissing Isaiah Crowell on Saturday after their troubled star’s arrest on gun charges, Georgia will be needing another running back to frighten the life out of SEC East defenses in the fall. The job up for grabs will come between sophomore Ken Malcolme, highly-touted Keith Marshall, and freshman Todd Gurley, ESPN says. The consensus No.1 player in high school football, Robert Nkemdiche,  today stunned the college football world by committing to Clemson over Alabama or LSU. But why did he decided to play his football in the ‘other’ Death Valley for the ‘other’ Tigers? The defensive end from Georgia – who is seen by some as another DeMarcus Ware – had 18 sacks in a season for Grayson and he’s pretty useful on the other side of the ball, too. Recruiting: Nation’s top player commits to Clemson

According to reports, the Nation’s No.1 recruit, Robert Nkemdiche, has decided to play for the Clemson Tigers instead of LSU, Alabama or Georgia in the SEC. Twitter was abuzz in the early evening saying the stud defensive end had decided to play his football in the ‘Other’ Death Valley. The player had been recruited across the country, although more heavily by Alabama, LSU, Georgia, USC, South Carolina and Ole Miss. 247Sports, quoting sources, said the player opted for Clemson after an official visit. In its reasoning why, 247 said: “A day earlier, his close friend, defensive back David Kamara, committed to Clemson – the team’s second pledge from Grayson. Sunday recruiting news: Dawgs grab new WRs

It’s been widely reported but this is the news out of Florida – the Georgia Bulldogs have gone down south and grabbed wide receiver Reggie Davis. Tallahassee-based Davis, ranked the 17th wide receiver in the nation, was recruited far and wide by schools, including Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee out of the SEC and Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, NC State, and Oregon – amongst others – outside of the conference. The 6ft tall Davis – a four-star receiver according to Yahoo Rivals – has a 4.55 40, and weighs 158-lbs. New Recruiting News: Kentucky grabs Florida commit

While other teams have been loading up on their commitment arsenals for the 2013 season, it’s been fair to say that Joker Phillips and his team at Kentucky have been rather slower than most. Having said that, the commitment of three-star defensive end Alvonte Bell to Lexington – Phillips’ second commit of the season- could start some sort of storm. Spring Meetings: SEC coaches vote in $300-per-game stipend

The SEC coaches might have just done something that could change the course of college football. This tweet came from Scott Hood at Gamecock Central: Scott Hood ‏@ScottHood63 In case you missed it, Steve Spurrier told me last night the SEC coaches unanimously approved giving FB players $300 per game for expenses. This isn’t just big news. This is massive news. This could mean that players are at least paid for playing – taking back some of the money that schools, clothing companies and other parties (yes, even college football blogs!) so happily take from them year in, year out.
