Every Georgia fan on Twitter seemed to erupt in celebration with the news that Georgia had applied (well, at least they had at the time of writing since it was 4 hours ago) to the NCAA to get Todd Gurley out of playing purgatory and restated to the team. According to a release from Georgia, the University said that it “plans to file the necessary paperwork with the NCAA later today.” Seth Emerson, a writer from the Macon Telegraph and Columbus Ledger-Enquirer wrote that the “The NCAA and UGA have been working together on Gurley’s situation, so UGA’s request seems almost assured of being approved.” There seems to be no question that Gurley took cash. Alabama and Georgia make statements: SEC Week 8 Power Rankings

Both Alabama and Georgia made statements on Saturday. Alabama by shutting down Texas A&M’s offense, Georgia by going to Arkansas and picking up the Win That No-One-But-Vegas-Who-Had-Them-Favored expected, striking a monster blow for SEC East. The dumpster fire in Florida continued as they lost 42-12 to Missouri at home on Homecoming Night, while Ole Miss shut down Tennessee at home. Gurley suspension puts Georgia in spotlight: Week 7 SEC Predictions

On a weekend that the No.2 team in the nation go and play the No. 3 team, and the team which beat Alabama goes down to a cauldron of noise to play in butt-hurt Texas, it’s funny how one incident can steal a spotlight for another team completely. And that incident and spotlight was stolen by Georgia, which has suspended their Heisman Trophy candidate/frontrunner indefinitely because he was photographed signing autographs (apparently he accepted $400 to do it in the spring). Todd Gurley suspended by UGA

The only word we had to say for this news when we saw it was: “Wow”. Today Georgia suspended its best player and Heisman hopeful running back Todd Gurley indefinitely for an “alleged violation of NCAA rules”. According to Andy Staples at Sports Illustrated – who cites Georgia’s compliance department,  “Gurley was paid $400 to sign 80 items in Athens last spring“, and there is photo evidence of Gurley doing the deed. “I’m obviously very disappointed,” said UGA head football coach Mark Richt. “The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri.” Allegedly Gurley was paid for signing signatures, according to a post from Reddit and Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. Georgia dismisses yet another player

If there was a college football play-off for teams that throw players off the team, Georgia and Texas would be your undisputed No.1 teams. Georgia probably took the lead a bit (partnered with Texas letting a player back on the team) when Freshman DB Shaq Jones was booted after being arrested for misdemeanour theft by shoplifting. Richt said in a statement: “We have certain expectations and standards that we require of all our players. In shocking news, another UGA player arrested

In shocking news, this weekend news emerged that yet another UGA player had been arrested – the seventh this off-season. This time it was reserve lineback Davin Bellamy for DUI and speeding in Athens. According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Bellamy was “clocked going 52 in a 35 mph zone heading east on College Station Road in Athens at 2:58 a.m when his 2001 Volvo was pulled over in the Kroger parking lot.” And when police smelt booze on his breath, he failed the sobriety test and police noted that he had “red, watery eyes“. Mark Richt comes out combative over Georgia drug rules

Mark Richt is used to criticism as head coach of the University of Georgia. Every year people place him on the hot-seat for either not beating South Carolina, or not beating Auburn, or losing a game they should win, or not beating a team by enough, and 2015 won’t be any different – although after beating Clemson and LSU, maybe the seat’s a LITTLE cooler. You can’t make this up – Georgia has dismissed another secondary player. This time, it’s rising sophomore Tray Matthews. With Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins off the team, the Bulldogs’ secondary was already looking a little thin, and then Mark Richt hit the Bulldog Nation with this bomb. “We are trying to make room for guys who want to do things right“, Richt said. Richt’s reaction to Georgia arrests

Georgia coach Mark Richt has said that there will be “consequences” for the four players who were arrested for double-dipping on their stipend checks on Monday night. “Obviously we had some guys that did foolish things, and there will be consequences”, he said in a press conference after Georgia’s Spring Practice on Tuesday, even though safety Tray Matthews, defensive linemen Jonathan Taylor and James DeLoach and wide receiver Uriah LeMay all practiced on Tuesday.
