Auburn 2015 Preview: Is this the Tigers’ year?

After starting the season 5-0, a lot of was expected of Auburn when they went to Mississippi State. After losing 38-23, it was obvious that something was missing from Gus Malzahn’s team….a good defense. And for the rest of the season, the defense rotted, basically mailing it in against Georgia and Alabama. Of course, Ohio State will thank Auburn for exposing the Crimson Tide’s weak secondary (they did the same thing a few weeks later), but this team was a real disappointment, culminating in a 34-31 loss to coach-less Wisconsin. THE OFF-SEASON Auburn made the biggest splash of the off-season in hiring defensive co-ordinator Will Muschamp, who had been fired at Florida as the Gators’ head coach. Muschamp was an

Mississippi State 2015 Preview: Dak Attack!

Last season was a stunning one for Mississippi State. They went to No.1 in the polls. They beat LSU on the road for the first time in their history. They had their second 10-win season in their history. Their QB, Dak Prescott, was a Heisman contender. OK, so underestimating the Bulldogs was our mistake, Starkville. OFF-SEASON Dak Prescott had an awful Spring Break when he was blindsided by some douchebag in Panama Beach. He didn’t press assault charges, which is a shame. He should have done. Coaching-wise, Dan Mullen lost defensive co-ordinator Geoff Collins to Florida, and replied by bringing in Manny Diaz as his DC, who did a terrible job at Texas where he was DC there. Seriously, the

Georgia names starting QB

Georgia has named Greyson Lambert as its starting quarterback for the season opener against Louisiana-Monroe. Lambert, a graduate transfer from Virginia, threw for 1,632 yards for the Cavaliers, including 10 TDs and 11 INTs. He also completed 154 passes in 261 attempts. Lambert beat out Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta. Georgia coach Mark Richt said: ““There may be other or others who get in the game. But right now the thing that I know that he’ll start the game. Very, very close competition. Still being contested in my mind. But at this point we felt it would be wise to name a starter and get him ready to play in this ballgame. …  We’ll start playing ball that way and see

Alabama 2015 Preview: Crimson Tide Rollin’ To SEC Title?

You know you’ve built a dynasty when every year, people are talking about the Alabama Crimson Tide and mentioning the words “National Title”. In fact, it’s a disappointment when they DON’T get to the final game. And when they were outplayed by Ohio State in the College Football Play-Off semi-final and didn’t get there, it was a disappointment, despite winning the SEC Title.  LAST SEASON As mentioned, Alabama lost the College Football Play-Off game to ‘The’ Ohio State University. They didn’t just lose, they were wildly outschemed and outplayed, with the secondary bullied throughout the game. Before that, Alabama went a tidy 11-1 and won both the SEC West and then the SEC Championship Game. Their only loss was

Georgia 2015 Preview: Roaring Bulldogs?

People laugh at Clemson for managing to choke the big games away, but let’s be honest, Georgia’s as bad as Clemson is. They lost to South Carolina and Florida despite being overwhelming favourites, and didn’t get to the SEC Championship Game, thanks to Missouri – a team they beat – managing to only lose to….(you guessed in) Georgia.  Despite losing Todd Gurley to the NFL, hopes are high, thanks to Nick Chubb. But there are a lot of things for Mark Richt to do before that…. LAST SEASON Georgia beat Clemson handsomely at the start of the season, and the sold-out Sanford Stadium swore that this was going to be their year – especially after seeing The Devil

Mark Richt: I have no idea who the QB starter will be

Mark Richt, the Georgia coach, spoke at SEC Media Days. While we’d love to try and translate something deep and meaningful into what he said, we’re just going to take his quotes out and let you decipher them. But Richt’s a pretty blunt person….so… ON CRITICISM AND LEARNING FROM BOBBY BOWDEN AT FLORIDA STATE (SARCASTICALLY) “I didn’t know I got criticism” “I think the big thing — I know when I first started coaching 32 years ago, whenever it was, with Coach Bowden and being in what we call hideaway and him talking about notes. A few things he talked about in the very beginning of those sessions, and one was criticism. He said, it’s just the nature of the

Georgia hires new offensive co-ordinator

Georgia has hired Brian Schottenheimer from the St Louis Rams as its new offensive co-ordinator. “I’m excited to have Brian join our coaching staff,” Richt said in a statement. “His NFL experience will be a perfect fit for how we like to play offensive football here at Georgia. He’ll be excellent in developing our players in both the running and passing games, which will benefit them while they are at Georgia and for their future.” Schottenheimer’s hiring comes after long-time offensive co-ordinator Mike Bobo decided to go and take on the head coaching position at Colorado State, after CSU’s head coach Jim McElwain decided to go and be the head coach at Florida. This year St Louis’ offense – not

Malcolm Mitchell avoids NFL Draft embarrassment by staying at Georgia

Malcolm Mitchell’s decision to stay at Georgia for the 2015 instead of leaving early for the NFL was one that he and his family probably thought about deeply, but they needn’t have. Because if Mitchell HAD gone to the NFL, it would have been a tragic mistake. Why? Because if he had gone in his junior year, he would have earned money – but he would have only made it in the second day of the draft….if at all. Look, there’s no doubt of Mitchell’s skill. He’s caught 1,466 yards and 11 TDs for the Bulldogs, and he’s a converted cornerback. He’s got blazing speed, and would scare anyone as a long threat or slot receiver. He can also play

Gurley suspended additional two games; Georgia to appeal

Star Georgia running back Todd Gurley has been suspended an extra two games by the NCAA – meaning that he’ll be back for the Auburn game at Sanford Stadium on November 15th. Georgia already suspended Gurley for two games – the road wins against Arkansas and Missouri – after finding out he had taken money for signing autographs. It was thought to be around the $400 mark, but the further investigation found that it was far more than that. The NCAA said that Gurley was suspended for “accepting more than $3,000 in cash from multiple individuals for autographed memorabilia and other items over two years.” It added that “Gurley, who acknowledged violating NCAA rules, must repay a portion of the
