Read moreWhen the refs steal the a lot of the game’s limelight, you know that the reffing was terrible. And in the Mississippi State vs Memphis Penn State vs Auburn clashes, they were beyond terrible. No, stupid press releases about how these dumbf**ks screwed up the call might make the SEC feel better, but these guys should be suspended. I mean, they are costing coaches their potential livelihoods here! Apart from that – and that’s like saying: “Apart from that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?” – here’s our SEC rankings. Georgia (3-0): The Dawgs look unbeatable at the moment. Sure, their secondary gave up 2 or 3 big plays to South Carolina, but the strength was meant to be the
Read moreAfter the relative dross of SEC games last week, Week 3 of the season – on paper anyway – is a beautiful mixture of in-house SEC clashes, and some ‘dope’ out-of-conference clashes, which are the filling of some pretty dry bread that you can avoid if you take it away. For a lot of people looking at the season early, it was all going to be about Alabama vs Florida in The Swamp, with a packed Gainseville crowd looking for blood. There was going to be a new Alabama after the NFL had once again decimated the team, and Dan Mullen was going to pull of miracles? Oh, and then we saw what Alabama could do, and dear Lord it’s
Read moreWeek 1 in the SEC was fun. Georgia shut down Clemson with a defense that was absolutely frightening. Alabama rolled – and we mean ROLLED – against Miami, and LSU lost at UCLA. Everyone else? Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina and Texas A&M all christened their series in style, while Missouri, Arkansas and Mississippi State survived despite playing dreadfully, and Vanderbilt’s loss to ETSU was so bad that it had us questioning whether they should play football. Anyway, here are our rankings for the 11 SEC teams that we’ve seen this season. Ole Miss play Louisville on Monday (and we’ll adjust them then, but here’s now!). Georgia (1-0): OK, we get that Alabama’s victory over Miami was really impressive. Totally understand
Read moreLast week was Week 0. Yeah, we saw a B1G match-up between Nebraska and Illinois, as well as UCLA putting a beating on Hawaii, but that was about it. But this week is where the big guns come in, and every team comes and flexes their muscles. As usual, we’re going by games that interest us the most. And weirdly Alabama – is in the Top 3. No.5 Georgia vs No.3 Clemson (-3, O/U 51.5) (Charlotte): This is a game that everyone’s been excited about since it came on the schedule last year. And although Georgia’s ranked No.5 and Clemson’s ranked No.3, these are two bona fide National Championship favorites. And both have the chance to run the table if
Read moreWith Gus Malzah, the University of Auburn was always a mystery. A fun mystery, but a mystery nonethleless. This was a team that would beat Georgia or Alabama or LSU one season, and lose terrible games to a poor Mississippi team, or – as was the case last year – a piss-poor South Carolina team. But in the background was always Alabama, Alabama, Alabama. Never mind that Malzahn had taken his team to a National Championship Game where they lost in heartbreaker, won a National Championship Game as an OC, and won the SEC Championship twice. His 3-5 record against Alabama proved he could do it when others couldn’t (3-5 isn’t terrible), and his 3-5 record against LSU in one

Read moreEvery SEC starting QB apart from Mississippi State has been named. Here’s an outline of what SEC head coaches have done. THE CERTAINTIES ALABAMA: BRYCE YOUNG. Young was named starter on 8/30. After coming to Tuscaloosa as one of the top QBs in the 2020 recruiting cycle, everyone has been excited about seeing this Californian prospect start. He has already been mentioned as having a Heisman chance. ARKANSAS: KJ JEFFERSON. Although there’s meant to be a quarterback battle in Fayetteville, Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman has been fawning over Jefferson’s play so much, that everyone else is obviously stepping back from the sophomore, now that Felipe Franks has gone to the NFL. AUBURN: BO NIX This is the year. Bo
Read moreHello, Mr New SEC fan. You’re looking for a team to root for, and here at the SEC Football Blog we’d like to give a guide. For the record, all of our fanbases get loaded and cook good food before a game on a Saturday. Our fans are obnoxious and quasi-respectful. Our stadiums are monstrous theaters, and our players are generally pretty great. Know this: The school you root for will probably get into trouble with the NCAA – college football’s governing body – at some point, and you’ll try and deny that your guys pay players. It’s not true. They do. Oh, and don’t talk to people about politics, and y’all will be fine. Enjoy your Saturdays in the
