How do you keep players ‘in the bubble’?

Right, so keeping players in the bubble’s going to be tough. It’s pretty obvious that the kids who are going back to school think that just because they passed a COVID test between March and now that they aren’t ever gonna get the plague, so they are gonna hang out, drink and do dumb stuff, because they are students. Football players aren’t different, particularly with all the distractions. And no, we ain’t talking about studies, since a lot of college football players wouldn’t be in college if it wasn’t for football. Hell, it’s a miracle most of them got through high school. A great friend of mine was pursuing the sort of lifestyle that would have made Hunter S Thompson proud

Three Auburn players test COVID-19 positive

Three Auburn players have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus, the school has said. The players – as usual with these cases – have not been named – are isolating themselves from the team. The Auburn news is hardly a surprise in the State of Alabama, which has been furiously opening up. Last week five Alabama players tested positive for COVID-19.

Why the college football season will DEFINITELY go ahead

Earlier on Saturday Fox Sports’ writer Joel Klatt tweeted: “The college football season will 100% go ahead…. Fans will be in the stands at some capacity in most of the stadiums….The season will likely start on time”. Of course, everybody jumped on this like Klatt’s words were gospel, and he had to basically write a tweet back to Reddit’s CFB board saying: ‘These are just ‘thoughts’”. It didn’t take time for Clay Travis to snipe at all the other sportswriters, effectively saying that it was bad news for other college football writers that the season wouldn’t go ahead. Someone forgot to say to him: Why would college football reporters not want a season to go ahead, bearing in mind college

What happened to these SEC greats?

In life, there are SEC players we remember. We all know what happened to Peyton Manning, Matt Stafford and Julio Jones. On the other hand, we remember – sadly – what happened to Aaron Hernandez. But there are some players where you sit there and think: “Damn! What happened to these guys. They were GOOD in college”. So here are your players. We’ve gone with one or two per SEC team. So if you’ve got any further ideas, let us know. ALABAMA Tyrone Prothro: Playing in Tuscaloosa from 2003 to 2005, Prothro pulled off one of the most memorable, brilliant catches in 2002. It was so good it had me in tears. Then again, so did his career-ending injury that made

Top 20 SEC Games of 2019: Watch Again!

It wasn’t the greatest season of SEC games, but it was a great season to be an SEC fan. Whether it was the sheet craziness of the Alabama vs Auburn game (we’re still trying to work out how it all unfurled) to the rip-your-nose-off atmosphere in Athens for the visit of Notre Dame to the manic upsets involving Tennessee, it was fun. Here you can re-live your favourite SEC games. Some of them full-length, other of them simply highlights. Happily, not all of these have Gary Danielson commentating.  Alabama at Auburn FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE ALL THE CRAZINESS. 2. September will leave the SEC with tough decisions

College football is going to leave us with some tough decisions. While we hope that we would have forgotten about Coronavirus and all the problems it has caused us in six months, that isn’t going to happen. And nor will the spread of the pandemic and nor will the deaths. As we know, one of the biggest causes of the virus is the fact that it spreads quickly in crowds. The fact that we want to be together has been the reason why governors in most states have put in ‘shelter in place’ orders, in an effort to stop people moving to walk around parks and socialising, in an effort to slow down the virus and stop more people than

The SEC cuts all Spring Games

Doing their bit against COVID-19, the SEC has cancelled all of the Spring Games. The conference suspended all athletic activity until April 15th, although it would not be surprising if that is longer. This will leave a lot of coaches and players in the ‘corridor of uncertainty’. Players will want to know if they should stay around or transfer. Coaches will want to find out who their No.1 QB is in a live game. And of course, this also impacts recruiting, as high schools have either shut down completely, or schools have abandoned recruiting trips. Of course, you can expect a proliferation of online recruiting via Zoom and players’ meetings, as well as group ‘home’ weights sessions (most schools will

Georgia tops 2020 Recruiting Rankings

If recruiting had a National Championship, Georgia will be in the Top 4 year in, year out. For the 2020 class, Georgia would have topped the lot. After taking in 4 5-star recruits and 15 four-star recruits – including 6-5, 298lb OT Broderick Jones – who may well start now Cade Mays has transferred to Tennessee – and 6-4, 305lb OC Sedrick Van Pray – today, UGA cemented its ranking at the top. The Bulldogs’ class was highlighted the best corner in the nation – Kelee Ringo – deciding to head for Athens. He was fourth on 24-7’s composite player ranking. Last year UGA had the country’s No.2 recruiting class, and in 2018 the Bulldogs locked in the No.1 class.

Chad Morris joins Auburn as OC

In what should be an explosive meeting of minds, Chad Morris is joining Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator for Auburn. Morris, who was recently ousted as the head coach of Arkansas after 2 horrific years, comes with the reputation of quick-moving, high-scoring offenses – enhanced by years at Clemson where that was the case. He comes after former OC Kelly Dillingham went to Florida State to take up the same position there under new head coach Mike Norvell. For Malzahn, who probably looking for a bit of life in an offense that looked rather listless this season – including a quarterback that went from bad to OK in freshman Bo Nix, this arrival will be well-received by the Auburn faithful.

The SEC Championship Game: Preview and Predictions

The Super Bowl 2019 has arrived! Yes, it’s the SEC Championship Game. While it seems a bit of a relief to have someone other than Alabama or Auburn as the SEC West’s representative (LSU is there for the first time since 2011), Georgia seems to be installed in The Big Game, having been there for the last three consecutive years (1-2 record). This year, there’s all to play for. LSU, who are No.2 in the nation behind Ohio State, will definitely go to the College Football Play-Off with a win over Georgia (and probably will get in anyway!), while No. 4 Georgia will definitely get in with a win over LSU, because the Committee are unlikely to jump Utah or
