Dyer will not play for Arkansas State in 2012

Former Auburn running back Michael Dyer’s on-the-field reunion with Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn will have to wait a year, the Associated Press has reported. The NCAA decided not to allow Dyer – who transferred from Auburn to Arkansas State in the off-season – to play for the Red Wolves in 2012. Arkansas State had asked the NCAA to allow Dyer to waive its one-year sanction on transfers, but the NCAA denied their application. Although Dyer had a brilliant on-the-field career with Auburn, where he rushed through Bo Jackson’s freshman rushing record in 2010, won a National Championship, and kept an otherwise fairly inept offense afloat in 2011 with 1,200 yards rushing, his off-the-field career was somewhat acrimonious. Isaiah Crowell gets thumbs up for transfer

Former Georgia Bulldogs running back Isaiah Crowell, who was booted out of Athens after getting arrested on felony gun charges at the end of June, has found a new home: Alabama State. According to UGASports.com, Crowell has been confirmed and will be able to suit up for the FCS Hornets in their first game on the road at Bethune-Cookman on September 2nd. Coach Reggie Barlow told the website: “I talked with Mrs. Debbie, Isaiah’s mom, and I really wanted to get clearance from them to be able to go ahead and say that it was a go. She’s given me permission to do that. He’s been admitted and will start our second session of summer school on Monday.” Barlow added in

Georgia looking for life after Crowell – and vice versa

After dismissing Isaiah Crowell on Saturday after their troubled star’s arrest on gun charges, Georgia will be needing another running back to frighten the life out of SEC East defenses in the fall. Breaking news: Mizzou QB arrest charges downgraded

Police investigating the arrest of Missouri back-up quarterback Corbin Berkstresser  have decided to charge the player with a misdemeanor not a felony after being arrested for leaving the scene of an accident in mid-May, Dave Matter of Mizzou’s Columbia Daily Tribune has reported. Berkstresser was suspended from the team – already suffering from the absence of QB James Franklin, who is recovering from shoulder surgery – after his arrest on May 12th because of the charges hanging over him after he smashed his car into another – parked – one in Columbia. What will recent arrests mean to both Arkansas and Tennessee?

Another week, another bunch of arrests in the world of college football. TENNESSEE: This week, the Tennessee Vols  tight end Cameron Clear was arrested on a felony theft charge involving a laptop, according to the Atlanta Journal-Consititution, and the Tennessee Vols has dismissed him from the team. The sophomore tight end has one reception and four receiving yards in his Volunteers career. WHAT THIS MEANS: The biggest pain in the neck with Clear’s arrest is that it hits embattled Vols coach badly on the depth chart.
