Georgia D-Lineman arrested: Dismissal pending?

Georgia starting defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor has been arrested on a felony charge of aggravated assault. Taylor – who was part of the group who arrested and charged with ‘theft by deception’ for depositing his stipends twice – was jailed early this morning after allegedly strangling a woman in his college dorm room. According to the Athens Banner-Herald, “There was evidence that the female victim had been “possibly strangled by the offender,” in the incident in Taylor’s dorm room….There was evidence that the victim and another individual had been involved in an argument in McWhorter Hall, police said. Nick Saban: I was not offered $100m by Texas

Nick Saban, head coach at Alabama, arrived at the SEC Media Days in the face of an eventful offseason. Firstly there were the rumors that he might be leaving Tuscaloosa for the bright lights of Austin and the Texas Longhorns. Malzahn says QB will ‘deal with the consequences’ after citation

Gus Malzahn, the Auburn coach, said on Monday at the SEC Media Days in Hoover, AL that Nick Marshall will learn from his ‘mistake’ after the QB was cited for less than an ounce of marijuana in his car. “Nick made a mistake and he’ll have to deal with the consequences,” Malzahn said. “I’m not ready to say what those consequences are at this time, but he will deal with it.” Malzahn added that defensive end Carl Lawson will miss most or all of a season with a torn ACL. Alabama DL arrested

Alabama defensive linesman Jarran Reed has been arrested and charged with DUI by police in Tuscaloosa, according to various reports. Reed, who transferred to Alabama from East Mississippi Community College in the Spring, had a blood alcohol content of 0.13, above the limit of 0.08. “Reed was driving a white 2011 Dodge Charger, according to a TPD news release, when an officer saw him collide with another vehicle at 1:50 a.m. while backing out of a parking spot. Reed attempted to exit the parking lot, but the officer stopped him, the TPD release stated. Auburn superstar in pot citation

Auburn QB Nick Marshall – a key part of Auburn’s stunning 2013-4 National Championship Game run – has been cited in Georgia on possession of marijuana. He was cited in Reynolds, GA for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, after his car was initially pulled over for a tinting violation. A policeman smelt that marijuana had been smoked in the car, and searched the car, finding that less than an ounce was found. The Sporting News noted that with Marshall’s arrest, both starting QBs in this year’s National Championship Game had been arrested after the arrest of Florida State QB Jameis Winston for thieving crabs legs. Two UGA players appear in court; Will not face suspension

Georgia linebacker James DeLoach and freshman defensive end Jonathan Taylor will not face suspensions from Mark Richt after being arrested for cashing checks illegally. The two players were told that they would face “significant internal discipline” but no suspensions, according to a number of reports. They were accepted into a pre-trial intervention program. The other two players – safety Tray Matthews and WR Uriah LeMay – appeared alongside DeLoach and Taylor. Matthews left the team earlier this week and LeMay has also left UGA. Both players intend to transfer.

Texas A&M dismisses two starters

Texas A&M has tossed two of their starters after they were arrested on Tuesday night. Linebacker Darian Claiborne and defensive linesman Isaiah Golden were both booted after being arrested on three charges each of aggravated robbery. The police report says: “On May 23, 2014 at approximately 2255 hrs, officers with the College Station Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 blk of Holleman Drive W in regards to a report of an aggravated robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival officers met with two victims, a 20 year old male and a 22 year old male, and learned that the reported robbery had actually occurred a short distance away at their apartment in the 1100 blk of Jones Butler Road.

Vanderbilt investigated by US Government

Vanderbilt is to be investigated by the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights for its handling of possible violations of federal law over the handling of sexual violence and harassment complaints. This should be no surprise to the SEC university’s administration, who is facing new allegations that then-football coach James Franklin tried to persuade a rape victim to be one of a more than 10 girls to become ‘hostesses’ for the university’s recruiting purposes. The school is one of a number of schools currently under US Government investigation for violating Title IX. Mississippi State O-Lineman arrested

Mississippi State offensive linesman Jordan Washington and recently-graduated Bulldog offensive linesman Charles Siddoway were both arrested on Wednesday for burglary and robbery. Both were charged. Siddoway was an ever-present in the Mississippi State for the two years he started on the offensive line, while sophomore Washington is expected to be a back-up after not starting in 2013. ESPN says that incident happened in an apartment complex near MSU’s campus, in which Siddoway was identified, and then Washington. Washington has been suspended by coach Dan Mullen.
