Missouri comes into Saturday’s game at Kyle Field with trepidation. It’s not because they haven’t played each other before (it’s 2-2 in SEC play since they both came into the conference in 2012), it’s because they were so lousy against Vanderbilt, while the Texas A&M-Marcel Reed combination has looked better and better. SEC Week 1 Round-up: Vanderbilt and Georgia impress, Florida does not, dross in the middle

The SEC was involved in four major match-ups with weekend, with Georgia playing Clemson, LSU playing Southern Cal (USC), Texas A&M at home to Notre Dame, and Florida hosting Miami. Oh, and Vanderbilt played the other game FBS game SEC schools were involved in, battling out with Virginia Tech. It was hard not to be impressed with Georgia’s kerb-stomping of Clemson. But LSU losing a neutral site game to USC was OK. We’re a lot happier with the state of the Tigers than we are with Texas A&M’s offense loss to higher-ranked Notre Dame or almost everything that was the Florida Gators. But Vanderbilt? Jeez. SEC Preview: Can anyone stop Georgia?

Georgia’s offseason has been stunningly bad, replete with a deadly accident on the morning after the National Championship player which killed a Georgia player, 13 speeding tickets, an article accusing the school of not paying attention to sexual assault claims after complaints (the AJC Journalist who wrote the article was fired, despite the fact that the AJC’s investigation found no reason to call the actual article a fabrication), and the very public continued signing of a Jamaal Jarrette, who had been accused of sexual assault while on a recruiting trip. Alabama boots former four-star linebacker

Alabama has booted sophomore linebacker VanDarius Cowan for a violating team rules. Cowan’s issues included getting arrested for a fight in Tuscaloosa where he punched a 26-year old man in the face, and he was also sidelined from some of Alabama’s Spring Practice for his poor academics – something that’s quite a feat at the 110th university nationally for academics. “VanDarius has been dismissed from the team and is no longer a part of our football program due to a violation of team rules,” Saban said in a statement. “Each of us has a responsibility to represent The University of Alabama in a first-class way, and failure to meet those standards can’t be tolerated. Previewing The Iron Bowl and every other #RivalryWeek game in the SEC

Because it gives me a chance to ignore the extended family and watch football for three days, I love Rivalry Weekend. It starts with the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night, and then moves through like a hurricane until the regular season (sniff! Sniff!) winds up at the end of Saturday.
