Read moreHot on the heels of Myles Brennan’s decision to transfer, LSU’s starting QB Max Johnson has decided to leave Baton Rouge. LSU now has one scholarship athlete on its roster – although next year the Tigers bring in 5-star QB Walker Howard, with Garrett Nussmeier also there. New coach Brian Kelly is going to have to get a transfer in, which shouldn’t seem hard bearing in mind LSU’s status. Johnson threw for 2,815 yards, 27 TDs and 6 INTs, yet was utterly medicore as a passer, finishing with a completion percentage of 60.3% (225 – 373). Despite being generally unloved by Tigers fans, Johnson won their hearts with a tremendous final drive against Texas A&M that gave departing coach

Read moreHappy Thanksgiving. Finally, we’ll all be able to see each other again. We’ll crack jokes, maybe laugh a little, and try and tell ourselves that we like sweet potato pie and can definitely have two helping of Momma’s Yams. During those family reunions, cousins of different in-state college dispositions will meet up, drink far too much bourbon, and argue like children. There will be discussions of tree-poisoning, and dog-pissing. But everywhere – from internet to in-your-face- will become a cesspool of bitter collegiate football division. Those arguments will develop into fist-fights, probable divorces and definitely decisions never to go to Uncle Joe’s. Ever. Again. And elsewhere, Texas and Texas A&M – the bastions of bitching – will sit each other
Read moreThe firings of Dan Mullen and Ed Orgeron are eerily similar.
Read moreAfter Saturday’s overtime loss to Missouri, the University of Florida had no choice: Fire Dan Mullen. Two weeks before it had been his defensive coordinator, Todd Grantham, who was booted. Grantham was seen by some as a sacrificial lamb, so that his friend Mullen could keep himself around for another year. But it didn’t happen. Saturday’s awful 24-23 loss in Columbia, in which the Gators had one regular-time touchdown in 360 yards of offense, wad utterly dreadful to watch (Note: Missouri weren’t much better!). But Mullen’s firing is still a weird one. Overall, he was 34-15 – the third-best in The Swamp behind Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer. After all, he was one horror-loss against LSU last season from getting
Read moreThis week features No.11 Texas A&M visiting No.12 Ole Miss, No.1 Georgia going to Tennessee, and No.16 Mississippi State rolling into Auburn. LSU also plays Arkansas, Oh, and struggling Missouri hosts South Carolina, who are full of the joys of the fall after thrashing Florida last week. LSU’s game against Arkansas could also be spicy, although Kentucky’s trip to Vanderbilt assuredly won’t be. Oh, and less said about Alabama’s game against New Mexico State and UF’s game against Samford the better. No.11 Texas A&M (-2.5 O/U 56 1/2) at Ole Miss: A few weeks ago, Texas A&M looked utterly inept. They had struggled to beat a poor Colorado team, lost at home to Mississippi State, and the boos were
Read moreThe SEC Football Blog has been in the UK lately, dealing with visa delay problems and an ill mother-in-law, but finally we’ve got a little time to do a piece of writing. We managed to watch the Georgia vs Florida / Michigan vs Michigan State games in the UK, but time differences and other issues have made watching college football at tad difficult. It’s also been difficult to write a SEC Power Rankings because below Georgia, everyone’s been a much of a muchness until you hit the dreadful trio of South Carolina, then Missouri and finally Vanderbilt. Needless to say, we’ve been following everything and trying to catch up with some highlights. Sorry to see you go, Coach O. And
