What we would like for SEC head coaches to talk about at SEC time
Read moreCould Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin be out by the weekend?
Read moreThe problem with watching two teams that already played each other about a month ago is that mentally, you’re prepared for a dull slog. And however much Atlanta might dress it up to be otherwise, that’s what it feels like. So on Monday night – when Georgia faces Alabama in a replay of last month’s SEC Championship Game, it’s going to be difficult to get excited. Especially if you’re an Auburn fan, who’s confused about which team they want to fail MORE. Georgia’s a three-point favorite in Vegas, by the way. SO WHAT DO ALABAMA HAVE TO DO TO WIN ‘SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME NO.2’? Play better on the offensive line: Alabama’s offensive line performance against Cincinnati was honestly pretty

Read moreI’ve got an 11-month old who’s sole aim (between teething) is to exhaust me. I’m sorry for not getting previews out there for all the bowls, but Christmas + child + wife who’s a pastor = Literal Hell on Earth. But saying that, I have been granted some time by the Lord Jesus to preview the two college football semi-final games, which I can’t believe are happening tomorrow. I truly thought the games were next week or something (Christmas screwing my dates up, yo!). ALABAMA (-13 1/2, O/U 57 1/2) VS CINCINNATI No-one seems to think Cincinnati’s got a cat in hell’s chance of winning this one. After Alabama overcame Georgia in a brilliant performance in the SEC Championship Game,
Read moreThere are a lot of people who hate NIL. They hate the thought of players ‘getting theirs’. They hate the thought that players aren’t going to college just for the education, but actually as a stepping stone into the NFL. “The players should stay loyal to us!”, they say, adding: “They should also play in the bowl games, too!”. For me, NIL isn’t ruining college football. The bigger schools ALWAYS had boosters who would do this kind of stuff. And boosters who want to be more associated with a bunch of 18-21 year olds because it looks good for them to say: “I give money to Alabama”, and perhaps they can now declare the NIL money as a tax write-off,
Read moreLSU has pulled off another coup with signing FIU offensive linesman Miles Frazier, who was a freshman All-American. The school’s offensive line last year had been pretty horrific, giving up 38 sacks (second-worst in the SEC, 115th nationally), which was due to bad play and a stacking up of injuries. Frazier is one of the biggest ‘gets’ of Brian Kelly’s young career in Death Valley. This comes off the back of news that Myles Brennan, who would have started in 2021 had he not been injured, had pulled his name out of the transfer portal.
Read moreMyles Brennan has announced that he is pulling his name from the transfer portal and will inside vie to be LSU’s starting quarterback. The move came after – I expect – a conversation with Brian Kelly about how bare the QB cupboard was at LSU and that he would almost certainly be the 2022 starter. He will compete with freshman Walker Howard, a five-star QB who stayed committed today the school despite Ed Orgeron’s departure. Yesterday the news broke that former All-American CB Eli Ricks had decided to move to Alabama in the transfer portal, which must have infuriated LSU fans. Ricks was out from October after smashing his shoulder, so he should start immediately for the Crimson Tide, who
Read moreSouth Carolina has made the early SEC splash in the transfer portal by getting commitments from former Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler, and his teammate Austin Stogner. This will significantly upgrade South Carolina’s offensive room, where they were a putrid 109th out of 130 in points-per-game. Rattler and Stogner leave as part of a wave of players leaving Norman after head coach Lincoln Riley departed for USC (the other one!) two weeks ago. And while it is hardly a surprise bearing in mind that South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer worked on Oklahoma’s staff from 2018 to 2020 as an assistant head coach as well tight ends coach. Gamecocks fans will be hoping to see the QB who was a preseason
