Texas A&M beats Arkansas to 3-star WR

Texas A&M has beaten Arkansas to the commitment of three-star wide receiver Quartney Davis. 6ft, 181lb Davis, from Langham Creek HS in Houston, TX, is rated the 97th player in Texas and the 112th overall wide receiver. And he’s the 754th overall player. The Razorbacks were also among 30 schools to offer the player, and LSU and TCU were also interested. Langham Creek had a 9-2 season in 2014. Davis runs an 11 second 100 meter dash, which should help A&M’s quarterbacks given half the chance.

Arkansas, Vandy get huge O-Linemen commitments

Arkansas and Vanderbilt have both scored huge offensive linesmen commitments. 6-7, 270lb Kellen Diesch from Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club, TX is ranked as the 83rd-overall players in Texas, the 48th overall offensive linesman and 575th player in the country overall. Vanderbilt’s big commitment for the weekend was from 6-7, 305lb Devin Cochran from Greater Atlanta High School in Norcross, GA. Cochran is ranked the 84th overall player in Georgia and the 79th overall offensive tackle in the country. He is also ranked the 906th overall player in the country. OFFERS Diesch was chased by Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri Texas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, as well as TCU, Baylor and TCU among the 30 offers he received

2015 SEC Season: 50 Things We Can’t Wait For

It’s only the start of June, but we can’t wait for the start of the SEC season. We here at the SEC Football Blog LOVE the College World Series (with half of the field coming from the SEC, what good Southerner couldn’t?), but we still can’t wait until the Fall. Texas A&M beats Texas, OU to 4-star DE

Texas A&M has added the commitment of four-star defensive end Mark Jackson. The Aggies beat Oklahoma and Texas to Jackson’s commitment. 6-2, 226lb Jackson hails from Steele High School in Cibolo, TX. Jackson is rated as the 9th-best weakside defensive end in the nation, 28th-best player in the State of Texas and 179th-best player in the USA overall by 247Sports.com. Aside from Oklahoma and Texas, Jackson was also offered by Missouri, Notre Dame, Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, and UCLA and was also recruited by Stanford and LSU, but not offered.

Four-star CB commits to LSU

Four-star cornerback Andraez “Greedy” Williams has committed to LSU. The player, who hails from Shreveport, LA, plays at Calvary Baptist Academy and is considered the 10th-best player in Louisiana, the 12th-best cornerback in the country and the 221st-best player overall, according to 247Sports.com. Williams, who is 6-2 and 130lb – was also recruited by Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Missouri, TCU, Arizona, Nebraska and Houston. Williams visited Texas A&M twice in the recruitment process  – so it won’t be a huge surprise if Williams becomes an Aggie come National Signing Day. Especially if LSU has a poor season. LSU gave Williams an offer in June 14 after the player attended a Tigers camp.

Spurrier confirms addition of transfer safety

Steve Spurrier has said that the Gamecocks will be adding a graduate transfer safety from Kansas this off-season. Speaking on the Paul Finebaum Show at the SEC Spring meetings in Destin, FL, The Head Ball coach said: “I hope that’s not against the rules,” he added. “We think he’s got to get in grad school and do some stuff. Our conference – if they’ve had issues before – would frown on us taking a player like that.” He added: “It’s just one year. Maybe he’s gone to a place where things haven’t worked out or maybe he played on a team that doesn’t win that much and he wants to go and play on a successful team. Let ’em play.

LSU O-Lineman arrested on domestic abuse charges

LSU offensive linesman Jevonte Domond has been arrested on felony domestic abuse charges, according to reports. According to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, the 6-6, 310lb freshman offensive tackle was arrested on “felony domestic abuse battery with strangulation” charges after Domond lifted his girlfriend off the ground and dropped her. The LSU team suspended the player, a spokesman from the team told The Advocate, although Les Miles didn’t offer further comment. Domond came to LSU from Glendale Community College and played for the Tigers in one game, the report said. He was thought to be challenging for a starting job on the LSU side, but now that doesn’t look like a possibility.

Michigan CB transfers to Auburn

Michigan CB Blake Countess has transferred to Auburn. Countess will play in Jordan-Hare as a graduate student. He had 114 tackles for Michigan in 3 seasons, including 3.5 tackles for loss. He also had six interceptions during his career. Countess’ best season was in 2013, where he recorded 46 tackles, two tackles for loss, six interceptions (returned for 169 yards) and a touchdown. He also had four passes defended. Countess tweeted: “Excited to attack the next chapter in my life!” The move by 5-10, 180lb Countess will strengthen Auburn’s secondary which has been decimated by injuries this off-season.

Alabama moves up SEC recruiting table with DT commit

The commitment of four-star defensive tackle Kendell Jones to Alabama has moved the Crimson Tide up the SEC recruiting rankings. The 6-4, 361lb Jones is ranked 67th on the National Composite rankings, as well as being the 11th-best DT in the nation and the 9th-best player in Texas, where he plays at Shoemaker High School. The rankings – according to recruiting website 24-7 – sees Alabama leapfrog Tennessee to fifth, behind Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU and Kentucky.  Florida is in seventh, followed by Mississippi State, Auburn, Arkansas, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Missouri. Alabama also moved up four spots to No.10 in the national rankings, which is currently headed up by Florida State. The Crimson Tide currently has five four-star commitments

Three SEC schools make Phil Steele Top 10

Three SEC schools have made Phil Steele’s projected AP Preseason Top 10 poll, the writer tweeted today. Alabama is No.3 on the list behind Ohio State and TCU, while Auburn and Georgia are in the No.9 and No.10 spots. Alabama plays Georgia on Oct. 3rd at Sanford Stadium, and Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Nov. 28th. Incidentally, Auburn plays Georgia at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Nov.14th. That means that according to Steele, Georgia and Alabama will play for the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta at the end of the season. The full list is this: 1. Ohio St 2. TCU 3. Alabama 4. Baylor 5.
