Vanderbilt Head Coach James Franklin to go to Penn State – reports

Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin is going to leave the SEC and be the next coach of Penn State, according to reports. Franklin, who had been head coach in Nashville since 2011, took the Commodores to an unprecedented two straight bowl games, going 2-0. They beat Houston 41-24 in their last one only last week. But Vanderbilt has denied the rumors. “Until I hear otherwise, he (James Franklin) is Vanderbilt’s football coach,” said Vandy AD David Williams to Jeff Lockridge at the Tennessean, who tweeted this out. Penn State site Fight On State said Franklin had signed a contract, but the deal had yet to be approved by the Penn State Board of Trustees. BOTTOM LINE: Franklin’s enthusiasm for the Vanderbilt program

Why hiring Lane Kiffin would be a bad idea for Alabama

Lane Kiffin is interviewing for the Alabama’s offensive co-ordinator’s job, according to CBSSports.com. He was asked to come in and ‘evaluate’ the offense before the Sugar Bowl by ‘Bama head coach Nick Saban, who incidentally shares his agent, Jimmy Sexton. But would this be a good idea? Let’s get this clear, if there’s a person more persona non grata in college football than Lane Kiffin, we’d really to know who he is. Here’s a list of fanbases who loathe him: 1) Tennessee’s fanbase: He preached loyalty, and then left to the University of Southern California after 14 months. The team who signed up for him were shocked and outraged. The fans still are. 2) Florida’s fanbase: During his stay in Tennessee, he

Did Alabama OC Nussmeier bolt for Michigan before he was fired?

Alabama offensive co-ordinator Doug Nussmeier has taken the vacant offensive co-ordinator’s job at Michigan.  Michigan only announced on Wednesday that head coach Brady Hoke had fired Al Borges after three years at Michigan. Nussmeier was Alabama’s OC and quarterbacks coach for the last two years, coaching an offence that included a quarterback Heisman candidate in AJ McCarron, a RB who’s now starring in the NFL in Eddie Lacy (and other great running backs including TJ Yeldon and soon-to-be Heisman Candidate Derrick Henry), a host of great wide receivers including Amari Cooper, and not to mention a SEC Championship and National Title. Because of their dependency on the defense, Alabama didn’t have to post gaudy numbers offensively. This year they were

The SEC Bowl Performance Rankings: Who makes No.1?

Right, for the first time in this blog’s history, we’re doing a SEC bowl performance power rankings from top to bottom. It’s inspired by the performances by UCF or UCLA (“Who did you think did really well in the bowls?”) as well as Michigan or Miami (“Who did you think really didn’t do that well in the bowls”). WARNING: Some of the teams may come in two parts. 1)  Auburn: OK, so we know that Cinderella didn’t get her glass slipper. But by God did she have a go at getting it! The Tigers ran out to a huge lead, lost it, grabbed a lead with a minute left….and lost it to the Drive Of The Season. Tre Mason showed

Johnny Manziel Goes Pro: Thanks For The Memories

Johnny Manziel, now you’re going to the NFL, thank you for the memories. You drove defensive co-ordinators mad. Nick Saban called you the (basically) the greatest thing to happen to college football since the dawn of time (nearly). You electrified a fanbase that weren’t really expecting a BCS Bowl (or ‘Players’ Championship Bowl’) in 2013. You beat Alabama on their own turf in 2012 in a performance from the Gods. And nearly beat ’em in 2013. You won a Heisman. Gig ’em indeed. You signed some autographs, got busted, got suspended meaninglessly, and in your comeback in the second half, you taunted in one of the greatest ways college football has ever seen. You’re right, they can’t have your autograph. And

After An Incredible Run, Let’s Applaud Auburn And The SEC

Despite the (Twitter) jokes we may have made in Auburn’s direction after ending the SEC’s BCS National Championship run, really we’re going to quote Jack Buck, when we say: “Excuse us while we stand up applaud”. Auburn was a 10.5 point underdog with Vegas. No-one – apart from those bleeding blue and orange (and some members of the media) who believed in Destiny – really believed that the Tigers would have put up 31 points on Florida State, led the ‘Noles by double digits almost all the way through the game, and exhausted their giant, great defensive lines. But they did. Auburn was a team that wasn’t even meant to succeed this season – let alone this well. Sure, we

Badgers, Bulldogs, and .341: SEC Bowl Preview

The blessing of bowl season in the SEC is that you don’t have to overdo it with SEC previews until pretty much the last minute. Well, thank God for the NFL Sabbath, which gave yours truly a little more chance to digest some (more) turkey and adult beverages and put together his SEC preview. And don’t worry: We haven’t forgotten you, Auburn. We are just doing yours seperately. MONDAY DECEMBER 30TH  MUSIC CITY BOWL: OLE MISS VS GEORGIA TECH  Georgia Tech and Ole Miss ended the season in heartbreaking fashion. Georgia Tech by giving up a 20-point lead over hated rivals Georgia, and then losing in double overtime, while Ole Miss quarterunning backack Bo Wallace fumbled on his way to

Juco National Signing Day: Big Wins for Texas A&M and Auburn; Saban solid

Junior College National Signing Day which started Wednesday had some pretty major headlines.  Auburn continued their incredible run of success in the recruiting field by persuading the No. 1 JUCO prospect in the country previous LSU commitment WR D’haquille Williams to sign for the Tigers, but also lineman DaVonte Lambert to not play for Tennessee but play on the Plains. Lambert and Williams will be joined by lineman Xaveer Dampeer, as well as Willams’ teammate Derrick Moncrief, who plays safety. – Texas A&M: British offensive guard Jermaine Eluemunor – who had switched from UCLA to Arkansas to College Station  in one of the more eyebrow-raising and indecisive recruiting sagas – stayed with the Aggies to pen his decision. The Aggies beat the two

Nick Saban to Texas, Or Not?

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock or taking selfies at Nelson Mandela’s funeral, you’d probably heard the news and rumors that Nick Saban is leaving Alabama to become the new head coach at Texas. First of all Texas Longhorns website Orangebloods.com followed up a weekend of rumors that Saban was going to Texas by saying that UT coach Mack Brown was out. Brown himself said that he wasn’t leaving, saying that he was on a recruiting trip to Florida, telling Jimmy Burch at Horns247: “I’m in Florida recruiting. If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn’t be killing myself down here.” Now, a tweet from Stefan Stevenson of the Texas Star-Telegram said: “Source close to Texas executive
