Oklahoma, Texas could be in the SEC by the end of next week
OK, I was wrong. I thought: ‘There’s no way Texas and Oklahoma are going to get into the SEC’. Yeah….so….
According to widespread reporting, it looks as though Oklahoma and Texas will be let into the SEC sometime next week in a 13-1 voting landslide.
According to Austin-American Statesman writer Kirk Bohls, who’s as inside-as-you-get with the Longhorn family, the SEC will vote to extend invitations to the ‘Horns and Sooners sometime next week, with only one school objecting to what’s going on.
Now it’s being reported by the Athletic’s Bruce Feldman and Sam Khan that Texas and Oklahoma will inform the Big 12 that they are planning to leave. Yesterday the Big 12 had a meeting to work out what they should do. We hope that SMU and Houston will be invited to the Big 12.
Apparently, the SEC had been working with Texas and Oklahoma since December on a possible move, while completely taking A&M out of the picture, which must do wonders for Aggies’ egos. Remember: Texas A&M was extremely happy to have moved out of the Big 12. Now, the war’s back on for recruits and superiority.
As college football fans, we win. We get to see Texas A&M – Texas and Texas A&M – Oklahoma and other former SWC rivalries again. We expect that Bedlam (Oklahoma State vs Oklahoma) will continue to get played, although God only knows what will happen to Texas’ other rivalry games like Texas Tech (played since 1960).
