Texas? Georgia? A&M? Tennessee? Who’s going to get in?

OK, so it’s about that time when we try and work out what in the hell’s going on.

With the four-teams-getting-selected-to-the-play-off-thing, it was pretty easy. Generally, the two teams in the SEC Championship got in, and the rest was the other guys.

But now, it’s 4 conference winners (SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12) + Notre Dame (on a good season) + The top non-4 conference team.

That means that it’s a bun-fight of epic proportions for the other three spots.

If you by the AP Top 25, then here are the teams in:

  1. Oregon
  2. Ohio State
  3.  Texas
  4. Penn State
  5. Indiana
  6. Notre Dame
  7. Alabama
  8. Georgia
  9. Ole Miss
  10. Tennessee
  11.  Miami
  12.  Boise State

The Top Big 12 team, by the way, is BYU at No.14.

So here’s how it works:

SEC: Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee

B1G: Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana

ACC: Miami

Big 12: BYU

Non Power-4: Boise State

And Notre Dame

The Mathematics is going to be effing terrible. Five good SEC teams aren’t going to get in. Kirby Smart has started lobbying the world about a ‘SEC schedule’, but it’s an awful schill. They ain’t getting five in. Especially when a lot of the teams play a piss-poor non-conference schedule.

The whole thing is a headache, isn’t it?

Although this is utterly irrevelant, here are our SEC rankings. Mainly because we matter more than the ‘proper people’, who would have serious ADHD problems to know what happened in every game.

  1. Georgia (8-2, 6-2 SEC): Started slowly, then beat the living daylights out of Tennessee. This team might not be perfect, but when Carson Beck puts on one of his best performance of the season so far, then everyone else is going to have problems.
  2. Texas (9-1, 5-1 SEC): Although they’ve been laughed at for only beating one ranked opponent this year, they’ve actually beaten three (Michigan and Oklahoma were both ranked). The big test is going to be Thanksgiving Saturday Night against Texas A&M. Get through that, then they are safely in.
  3. Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2 SEC): The failures of the Kentucky and LSU are in the past. This Ole Miss team is damn good, yo.
  4. Alabama (8-2, 4-2 SEC): Does the destruction of LSU make us forget the loss to Vanderbilt? Erm…..
  5. Tennessee (8-2, 4-2 SEC): Started well, then got completely suffocated by Georgia in a 31-17 loss. That doesn’t mean they ain’t pretty good though.
  6. South Carolina (7-3, 5-3 SEC): The hottest team in the SEC if not college football right now. They play such an exciting brand of heart-attack football that every week seems to be a must-see.
  7. Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC): We thought that A&M would be world-beaters until they got CLOCKED by South Carolina. Their team is fine, but they don’t know where they are at quarterback.
  8. Missouri (6-4, 3-3 SEC): Missouri’s knack of booting itself in the nuts was exceptional this weekend, giving up plays of 10 yards, 39 yards and an 18 yard touchdown on the final drive. Missouri had been leading with about a minute to go.
  9. Florida: (5-5, 3-4 SEC): The brilliant win against LSU shut up the “The board made a mistake bringing back Billy Napier” crowd. Look, the defense still isn’t great, but DJ Lagway has made the Gators fun to watch.
  10. Vanderbilt (6-4, 3-3 SEC): Great fun to watch, but an awful defense. And when they are awful and the offense isn’t clicking, it’s hard to watch. They probably won’t get to win another game this year (LSU, Tennessee), but they are making a bowl game, baby!
  11. Arkansas (5-5, 3-4 SEC): After getting DESTROYED at home by Ole Miss, it looked as though the whole season would fall apart when Texas came to town. But the utterly gutsy performance against Texas proved to us that the Ole Miss loss
  12. LSU (3-3, 6-4): The season’s over. We wouldn’t be overly surprised if Kelly’s abusive attack on his players during the Florida game costs him recruits AND transfers both in and out. He’s lost the dressing room. And Kelly is on the hot seat. Starting now.
  13. Kentucky (4-6, 1-6): The Wildcats aren’t good.
  14. Oklahoma (5-5, 1-5 SEC): The Sooners are bad all around the field.
  15. Mississippi State (0-6 2-8 SEC): The Bulldogs have shown some teeth after a dreadful start to the season.
  16. Auburn (1-5, 4-6): Urgh.
