Week 4 SEC Rankings: Manning makes Texas roll, Georgia struggles

1. Texas (3-0): DID YOU HEAR THAT ARCH MANNING TOOK OVER QUIN EWERS AGAINST UTSA AND HAD A PRETTY GREAT GAME? DID YOU?! DID YOU?!Anyway, the Longhorns didn’t miss a beat with Ewers leaving, and they won’t have to worry until Oklahoma the week after next. 

2. Georgia (3-0): The Bulldogs may have been incredibly unimpressive in their 13-12 win over Kentucky on Saturday night, but there are the only team in the SEC to have beaten two FBS teams – including a SEC one on the road.

3. Tennessee (3-0): The Vols have been beating down teams at breakneck speed. We anticipated NC State would be test, and they won’t. Maybe Oklahoma’s defense will do something to stop Nico & Friends.

4. Alabama (3-0): Alabama was poor against USF last week, but they torched Wisconsin on the road. Was it because Tyler Van Dyke was hurt in the first quarter, or would they have done it anyway? Anyway, Bama’s still utterly elite, and Jalen Milroe’s already in the Heisman discussion.

5. Ole Miss (3-0): The Rebs have only conceded 9 points and scored 168 of them. That’s pretty hard to do. They are elite, bro.

6. Missouri (3-0): The Tigers certainly weren’t elite against Boston College – they didn’t beat the line, but the Eagles ain’t got Luther Burden.

7 = LSU (2-1): The Tigers continue to be party in the front, party at the back, with an excellent offense and a comically bad defense. The brilliant comeback against South Carolina wouldn’t have happened without refereeing help.

7=  South Carolina (2-1): South Carolina blew a 17-point lead, but the aforementioned refereeing decision destroyed the upset. RB Rocket Sanders and QB LaNorris Sanders are for fun, and for real.

9. Oklahoma (3-0): The offensive line is suspect. Very suspect. Brent Venables is for real, though.

10. Texas A&M (2-1): The Aggies looked good against Florida….but everyone will look good against Florida this season.

11. Arkansas (3-0): Couldn’t dominate an awful UAB team. Doesn’t portend well for the coming season.

12. Auburn (2-1): Goodbye, Payton Thorne era. It’s Hank Brown’s team now (we hope!). Credit to Hugh Freeze, he recognized how terrible his QB was and dropped him. Will this launch the Tigers into a play-off discussion? No. But it might make them more fun.

13. Kentucky (1-2): They had plenty of chances to beat Georgia. Mark Stoops’ galling effort not to go for it in the 4th quarter in Georgia showed a lack of adventure.

14. Vandy (2-1): The loss to Georgia State showed us that Lea-Train ain’t there, but at least they still have a chance to make it a bowl game.

15. Florida (1-2): This team is horrible, horrible, horrible.

16. Miss. State (1-2): Urgh.
