Week 4 Preview: Tennessee and Oklahoma in the ‘Stoops Bowl’!

If Tennessee and Oklahoma are playing the ‘Heupel Bowl’ on Saturday, then Florida and Mississippi State are playing “Horses**t Bowl” in Starkville.

There’s also Arkansas and Auburn in the latest referendum on Sam Pittman’s job, Vanderbilt at Missouri, Ohio at Kentucky, Bowling Green at Texas A&M, Akron at South Carolina, Ole Miss’ latest joke of a home game when they play Georgia Southern, and who could forget Texas and Louisiana-Monroe?

Oh, and there’s the LSU v UCLA game, which would have been a lot of fun two years ago. This year’s probably going to be a massacre.

Anywhere, here are our Week 4 Preview, which are once again in order of games we’ll be caring about:

  1.   No.6 Tennessee (-6.5) at No.15 Oklahoma: Bob Stoops isn’t making a comment on the match-up between the two teams (Stoops fired Heupel and replaced him with an unknown OC called Lincoln Riley), and honestly, we don’t care. The key is going to be this: Can OU keep up with Tennessee’s incredibly fast offense? I know there’s some love for Brent Venables’ defense, but the Vols are feeling a lot like your 1998 ones. PREDICTION: Tennessee wins easily. Tennessee 35, Oklahoma 20.
  2.  Florida (-6) at Mississippi State: If you meet someone from Scotland, they’ll probably use the word: “Shite”. A lot. Anyway, that’s what we’ll refer to about both sides. On MSU’s last day out they got shellacked at home by Toledo, while Florida was terrible at home to Texas A&M. This is going to be a horror show. Which means must-see viewing. PREDICTION: Florida wins by a field goal. Florida 31, Mississippi State 30.
  3.  Arkansas at Auburn (-2.5): OK, so are we going to see an Arkansas team that should have a ranked victory (Oklahoma State), and has looked pretty impressive, or are we going to see an Arkansas team who at one time was down 17-3 to lowly UAB. On the Auburn side, the offense has been pretty horrible all season long.  PREDICTION: This one’s going to be horrible. Close, but horrible. Arkansas 31, Auburn 28.
  4.  UCLA at LSU (-22.5): This would be a cool helmet game if this was your unpredictable, fun 2022 UCLA team, but it’s not in 2024. LSU has some horrible defense, but has far more weapons that the Bruins will on both sides of the ball. UCLA might be the worst team in the Big Ten. LSU certainly aren’t the worst in the SEC. PREDICTION: LSU 52, UCLA 10.
  5.  Ohio at Kentucky (-20): Kentucky’s not fun to watch. And won’t be all season. They should have beaten Georgia, had Mark Stoops made some head-scratching decisions in the fourth quarter, which included not to go for it on 4th down in UGA territory instead of kicking it to the Bulldogs and not getting another touch. Ohio has a win over South Alabama that is looking better and better. PREDICTION: This won’t be an upset, but the spread looks a little wide. Kentucky 28, Ohio 14.
  6.  Vanderbilt at No.7 Missouri (-21): Damn, Luther Burden is so fun to watch. Missouri’s fun to watch too. Vanderbilt? They certainly weren’t against Georgia State. PREDICTION: Luther Burden gets 3 TDs, and gets some Heisman discussion. Missouri 38, Vanderbilt 14.
  7.  Bowling Green at No.25 Texas A&M (-23.5): Last week the Aggies actually impressed us with their win at Florida. Marcel Reed could lead them again against Bowling Green – who led for a half against Penn State and looked really, really good. PREDICTION: Reed’s ‘Coming Out At Home’ party. Texas A&M 42, Bowling Green 14.
  8.  Louisiana-Monroe at No.1 Texas (-44): YOUR COLLEGE GAMEDAY SCRIPT FOR THIS WEEKEND: ARCH MANNING ARCH MANNING ARCH MANNING ARCH WHO IS QUIN EWERS MANNING ARCH MANNING ARCH MANNING COLLEGE FOOTBALL SHOHEI OHTANI ARCH MANNING NICK SABAN LOST TO ULM IN 2007 ARCH MANNING FOR HEISMAN ARCH MANNING ARCH MANNING TEXAS BY 55 ARCH MANNING ARCH MANNING.
  9.  Georgia Southern at Ole Miss (-36 1/2): The latest yawn-fest in Ole Miss’ rather snory season. PREDICTION: Ole Miss 51, Georgia Southern 0.
  10.  Akron at South Carolina (-27): I still can’t believe that these tickets are $40 in the secondary market. PREDICTION: South Carolina 49, Akron 6.
