Week 11 Review: Bad week for Kentucky, another one for Texas A&M
The news that Texas A&M had a shitty weekend is hardly surprising. Jimbo Fisher’s side is on one of the worst slide’s in his career, and certainly in the Aggies’ small SEC history.
It’s so bad that you wouldn’t shocked if there’s the sort of field invasion that there was in 2021 when the Aggies turned over Alabama…even though the competition is UMass.
This week it was a fired-up Auburn, who filled Jordan-Hare in the best atmosphere of the week despite having one of the worst SEC records of the lot.
But the big surprise to us was the shocking performance produced by Kentucky, who lost at home to Vanderbilt. I thought Kentucky was meant to be ranked and have one of the NFL’s best prospects!!
Oh, and Fayetteville, LSU’s freak linebacker Harold Perkins made himself God, with the performance of a lifetime (8 tackles, 4 sacks, 4 TFLs, and forced a pair of fumbles) as LSU squeaked by Arkansas to give them a spot in the SEC Championship Game.
Otherwise, Alabama squeaked by Ole Miss, Georgia whooped Mississippi State, Florida comfortably beat South Carolina, and Tennessee slit Missouri’s throat.
So here are our SEC Rankings.
- Georgia: It will be a miracle if Georgia doesn’t win the National Championship this year. Oh, and the one in 2024, too.
- Tennessee: Lost in the discussion of the Vols’ nuking of Missouri was the fact that Missouri actually brought the game as close as 4 before the Tigers decided not to bother stopping Jalin Hyatt. This team’s good, but the defense is still a mess.
- LSU: A messy, messy performance in the miserable cold of Arkansas, but the Tigers survived. Harold Perkins previously committed to Texas A&M, by the way.
- Alabama: The Crimson Tide were one play away from yet another loss. We blame Lane Kiffin for this one, because his red zone effort included 3 bad QB decisions – all of them obviously drawn up. Bryce Young is still the best QB in college football….but probably won’t win the Heisman.
- Ole Miss: The Rebels HAD the opportunity to beat the Crimson Tide. It really did. It also has the best running back in the SEC in Quinshon Judkins, who did nothing to assuage that opinion on Saturday (135 yards on 25 carries, 2 TDs). But the lack of imagination on the final four downs with the game on the line? ****ing hell….
- Mississippi State: Cowbell is what it is….a middling team. It’s going to end this season 6-6, and that should be OK. They just faced a juggernaut on Saturday, who played the game of tight coverages and knowing hitting the receivers before they actually got the ball wouldn’t be called every time. Will Rogers is a fun watch, and we hope he returns for this senior year.
- Florida: A good performance against South Carolina guaranteed the Gators a bowl game in Billy Napier’s first season, and the team could go 8-4 this year, which should be satisfying for Gators fans – especially as Georgia and Tennessee are playing so well in their division.
- Arkansas: The Razorbacks looked lost without KJ Jefferson, and green with Malik Hornsby. Oh, and they had to compete with Harold Perkins. Having said all that, Arkansas’ D was excellent against LSU on Saturday, but the offense had to deal with Harold Perkins.
- Auburn: LOVING the energy of this Auburn team. LOVE the fact that the Tigers packed out Jordan-Hare despite the team sucking. LOVE Cadillac Williams. Why then so low on this list? They still aren’t very good.
- South Carolina: Remember the time when the Gamecocks were ranked and Spencer Rattler looked much improved? Like, 3 weeks ago?
- Vanderbilt: Got the 26-game monkey off their back at Kentucky on Saturday, and looked well-worth the win.
- Kentucky: You remember the time when Will Levis was a NFL top prospect?
- Missouri: Defense looked good until Tennessee (and honestly for a lot of the game)’s fourth quarter, but their offense simply isn’t good enough to keep up with any onslaught.
- Texas A&M: Despite having Evan Stewart, the Aggies missed Devon Achane. But they shouldn’t have lost to Auburn – a team who has also imploded in the SEC this season. Enough of this whole: ‘Anyone can beat anyone in the SEC’ crap. Jimbo Fisher’s become the laughing stock of college football. He’ll hire in an OC this season and probably fire his DC in an effort to cover his ass, but – and don’t get us wrong – missing a bowl game for the first time since 2009 won’t down well. The Aggies need to win their next two to avoid having their worst record since the woebegone days of Mike Sherman.
