SEC Week 5 Preview: LSU goes to Auburn, Arkansas v Alabama
Honestly, writing this preview seems a little worthless bearing in mind Hurricane Ian and its effect on SEC territory.
The University of Florida and their players will be watching the game with heavy hearts, bearing in mind the devestation around the State.
South Carolina already got ahead of the game by playing South Carolina State on Thursday. It was a slaughter as Carolina won 50-10. Spencer Rattler AGAIN wasn’t a highlight, throwing 2 TDs but also 2 picks. MarShawn Lloyd led the running backs with 91 yards and a TD (and a TD reception, too).
For Saturday, Alabama’s trip to Arkansas, Auburn’s trip to LSU, and Kentucky’s trip to Ole Miss highlights the schedule. There’s an underrated potential beauty in Texas A&M’s trip to Mississippi State.
Meanwhile, here’s the rest of the previews, in terms of our interest:
- Auburn at LSU (-8 O/U 46.5): Both teams aren’t ranked, but the game never ceases to be batshit crazy, it seems. Right now, the conversations are going to be about coaching, with the return to form of LSU because of Brian Kelly, and everyone getting their knives out for the plight of Auburn because of Bryan Harsin. Auburn at the moment is the worst team in the SEC. They would probably lose to Vanderbilt. PREDICTION: LSU by 14. LSU 38, Auburn 24.
- No.7 Kentucky at No.14 Ole Miss (-7 O/U 54.5): For some weird reason, this has gone under-the-radar. Maybe it’s because of Lane Kiffin getting annoyed at being at Vaught-Hemmingway for its atmosphere and relatiively sparse crowds (Hint: GET BETTER NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS, GUYS!!). Anyway, Kentucky comes into town, where the biggest chat about quarterbacking won’t be about Chad Powers or Jaxson Dart, but Kentucky’s giant QB Will Levis, who many think could be a Top 5 pick. Honestly, his results this season have been pretty medicore. But Kentucky’s defense is awesome, which will give Dart fits. PREDICTION: Kentucky by 7 in a great one. Kentucky 28, Ole Miss 21.
- No.2 Alabama (-17 O/U 61 at No.20 Arkansas: Arkansas should have beaten Texas A&M on Saturday, but it doesn’t mean that they are very good. KJ Jefferson is lively and will cause Alabama problems, but have you seen Arkansas’ defense? It gives up 401.5 yards/game, and 5.9 yards per play. You can see a situation where Arkansas keeps it close in the first half, but Alabama gets its offense together, and all hell breaks loose. PREDICTION: Alabama by 28. PREDICTION: Alabama 41, Arkansas 13
- No.17 Texas A&M at Mississippi State (-4, O/U 45): Mississippi State’s collapse to LSU was shocking, but it doesn’t mean that they are a terrible team. Texas A&M avoided a loss against Arkansas thanks to a bad kick, a brilliant defensive play and Devon Achane. But Ainias Smith’s injury could kill A&M, because we can see Mississippi State dial in on stopping Achane. The problem for Mississippi State is that the run stopping is rather medicore. Quarterbacks-wise, we still love Will Rogers, and it will be interesting to see how good Max Johnson is against a defense that gives up over 200 yards/game. PREDICTION: Mississippi State in a fun one. Mississippi State 31, Texas A&M 28.
- No.1 Georgia (-29 O/U 54) at Missouri: If Georgia plays well, Missouri are going to get flattened. If Georgia plays like it did against Kent State, Missouri’s going to make it interesting for about a half. PREDICTION: Georgia by 38. Georgia 45, Missouri 7.
- Eastern Washington at Florida. This won’t even be close. PREDICTION: Florida 58, Eastern Washington 10.
