SEC Week 9 Rankings: Is Florida a play-off contender?

COVID-19 came, and it took most of the SEC’s schedule with it. And while we had to say goodbye to LSU vs Alabama amongst other games, we still had Florida vs Arkansas, Vanderbilt vs Kentucky, and South Carolina vs Ole Miss, which included a flying clipboard.

After the smoke had cleared, Will Muschamp had been fired after South Carolina’s loss at Ole Miss, Florida destroyed Arkansas, and Kentucky mourned its offensive line coach John Schlarman, who lost his battle with cancer and put a tribute to him that will live long in the memory. Oh, and they beat Vandy 38-35, by the way.

So here are our rankings:

  1. Alabama (6-0): Did LSU try and avoid the Crimson Tide by pulled the whole “We had COVID” stuff, bearing in mind that they were out one quarterback and its general defense? Anyway, it won’t matter. The Crimson Tide is back against Kentucky on Saturday. We hope.
  2. Florida (5-1): YES, WE KNOW THAT A&M BEAT THE GATORS, but we watched the Gators more recently, and after they dropped 60 on Arkansas, we’re beginning to believe that if they played the Aggies in a three-game series, they would win.
  3. Texas A&M (5-1): The Aggies had to cancel the Tennessee game due to its COVID problems and now will have to do the same against Ole Miss, but Kellen Mond, Isaiah Spiller and this team is still very, very good.
  4. Georgia (4-2): Georgia could really use a good QB, by the way. Has anyone mentioned that before?
  5. Auburn (4-2): Bo Nix is weird. Auburn in weird.
  6. Missouri (2-3): The Tigers haven’t played a game in while, but with South Carolina without a head coach and Arkansas’ eliteness shredded in a Florida night, the Tigers could end up 5-5 for the year, which would be a resounding success in Eli Drinkwitz’ first season.
  7. Kentucky (3-4): We get the heavy hearts about Schlarman’s loss. It was truly sad. Maybe it was a reason why the Wildcats were so poor against Vanderbilt. Or it was because they aren’t that good.
  8. Arkansas (3-4): THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET BARRY ODOM HEAD COACH YOUR SIDE.
  9. Ole Miss (3-4): This Ole Miss side is an extraordinarily fun team to watch. You can write that down on your clipboard.
  10. Tennessee (2-4): The Volunteers season is going downhill fast, and maybe the A&M cancellation stopped more embarassment.
  11. LSU (2-3): LSU’s four COVID tests stemmed from players going to a Hallowe’en party. That says it all about how much the players care about LSU football right now.
  12. Mississippi State (2-4): It’s a first year for Mike Leach’s team, but the team from Starkville is still a shitshow.
  13. South Carolina (2-5): Three good things about the Gamecocks: 1) Kevin Harris 2) Shi Smith 3) Will Muschamp’s gone.
  14. Vanderbilt (0-6): Yeah.
