Auburn superstar in pot citation

Auburn QB Nick Marshall – a key part of Auburn’s stunning 2013-4 National Championship Game run – has been cited in Georgia on possession of marijuana.

He was cited in Reynolds, GA for misdemeanor possession of marijuana, after his car was initially pulled over for a tinting violation. A policeman smelt that marijuana had been smoked in the car, and searched the car, finding that less than an ounce was found.

The Sporting News noted that with Marshall’s arrest, both starting QBs in this year’s National Championship Game had been arrested after the arrest of Florida State QB Jameis Winston for thieving crabs legs.

Marshall had nearly 2,000 passing yards and over 1,500 rushing yards in the 2013 season.

According to a report by AL.com, Marshall was ‘teary-eyed’ and ‘very regretful’ after his citation.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If Gus Malzhan’s got any guts, he’ll suspend Marshall for a game or two for this arrest. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s hardly a great sign for Marshall and his college and professional future.
